Book excerpt: In my poem 'Life's Vagaries' I describe observations of a tattooed female, shuffling along in the market place with her boyfriend and the sign on a nearby church inviting people to 'light candles'. My emotional response is to juxtapose the meaning of love with religion. This book of poems expresses a wide range of experiences as I create responses to major themes in life such as birth, love and death. Covering over seventy years, the poems show how an early religious upbringing can leave its almost 'Freudian' imprint. This can be seen in 'Lessons of War' one of my early memories. My interest in philosophy is demonstrated in the poem 'Stages of Life in a Dressing Gown' where I reach a mid-life crisis and almost press the self destruct button...but thankfully recover to continue the journey. Hope you will join the journey with me and see life from a different perspective.

  • Pages : 506 pages

Download or read book Letifer written by T D Cloud and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-10-31 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gabriel Spencer is a Detroit beat cop determined to make detective by any means possible, and putting an end to a mysterious string of murders looks like the quickest way to accomplish that goal. Prostitutes and escorts, drained of blood, bodies abandoned in ditches, playgrounds, and Dumpsters... It all reeks of a similar spate of killings from decades past, and no one but Gabriel seems to see the connection. Modern crimes, however, can sometimes have ancient origins, and unfortunately for Gabriel, he fails to account for the real culprit- or the thought that perhaps he isn't the only one on the hunt for a killer. A vampiric crime thriller tinged with romance, horror, and intense world-building, Letifer serves as a standalone novel in The Dark Vagaries series.

Book excerpt: Pulitzer Prize-winner Mark Strand gives us a poem in forty-five sections that—despite its wide range and shifting mood and tone—is all of a piece. Here Strand speaks candidly to the reader, conversing, offering urban wit and surrealist digressions that draw on our innermost sensations and the outermost reaches of our reality: Is what exists a souvenir of the time Of the great nought and deep night without stars The time before the universe began? When we look at each other and see nothing Is that not a confirmation that we are less Than meets the eye and embody some of The night of our origins? A timeless pursuit of timeless questions, Dark Harbor centers on uncertainty and the known, family and isolation, the possible and the real. The poems in this book are easily recognizable as the world of one of our most interesting and influential poets.

What if said letter goes missing and ends up in the hands of George Wickham? What if Mr. Wickham plans to use the evidence of both Georgiana Darcy's ruination and Darcy's disdain for the Bennets to his benefit? How will Darcy counter Wickham's plans and claim happiness with Elizabeth Bennet? When he notices his long-time enemy in the vicinity of Hunsford Cottage, FITZWILLIAM DARCY means to put an end to an assignation between ELIZABETH BENNET and Mr. Wickham, but Darcy is not prepared for the scene which greets him in Rosings Woods. Elizabeth lies injured and crumpled beneath one of trees, and in order to save her, by Society's standards, Darcy must compromise Elizabeth. Needless to say, Darcy does not mind claiming Elizabeth to wife, but what of the lady's affections? Can Darcy tolerate Elizabeth's emotions being engaged elsewhere? Compelled into an engagement she least desires, Elizabeth Bennet thinks it impossible she could ever care for the arrogant Mr. Darcy, but the man proves more irresistible than Elizabeth first assumes. Yet, just when Elizabeth begins to believe happiness is within their grasps, Mr. Wickham reappears in her life with a "proposal" Elizabeth cannot refuse, and it is all Mr. Darcy's fault.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a broad range of local and foreign archival sources, Shumet Sishagne s Unionists and Separatists, presents a comprehensive account of the history of Ethio-Eritrean relations over the last half of the twentieth century. Starting with the end of Italian colonialism in Eritrea in 1941 and the struggle that ensued thereafter to determine the future of Eritrea, the book traces the evolution of domestic and external forces that decisively influenced the Eritrean political landscape. It examines closely the circumstances behind the creation of the Ethio-Eritrean federation and the challenges that brought it down. It provides a vivid description of the birth and growth of the Eritrean insurgency, the course of the prolonged and bitter civil war between rival Eritrean guerrilla factions, the failure of the Ethiopian government s handling of the problem in Eritrea, and the process through which the Eritrean People s Liberation Front (EPLF) succeeded in imposing its hegemony over the Eritrean political arena. Unionists and Separatists is the definitive history of the tragic and complicated relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
