Book excerpt: This poetry book is contributed to the continue struggle in my life, personal, and professional, to the overall things that is in my heart that happens each and every day. It's the way of the world being expressed on paper. It's what I see with my eyes that other refuse to see or say or just realize. It's being expressed from the abusive stages, to failure relationships, to lack of parenting, to the love of my mom. It's my way to be able to speak out loud and be heard. There's happy time, to the extreme devastation in the circle of the society life surrounding me. Again writing poetry is my way to express my inner feelings that was locked inside of my soul. It's away to relax and sooth my mental stages that affects my physical presents. It was a way to say how love, death, reality can motivate or depress my life without me being in control. It was my way to cry on paper and not be afraid of what anyone thinks about the things I have to say because it's my feeling and my beliefs. I can say the things that men won't admit to or reject because of taking it personal. It's a way to express reality and at the same time talk real talk. It was my way to express my sorrow for the systems i.e. educational, welfare, and for the kids of the future in this society. It's my way of keeping it real with me, and anyone who's willing to believe what I'm saying. 1st of all I would like to thank the man above because he has watched over me and have protected me through out. I would like to dedicate this poetry book to my wonderful mom (Jeraldine Williams), because without the strength of her for always believing in me none of this would have been possible. So I dedicate this book in behalf of my buddy, my chick, my best friend, my mom. Thank you!

Babylon or New Jerusalem? Perceptions of the City in Literature draws a map of the concept of the city in literature and represents the major issues involved. Contributions to the volume revisit cities such as the London of Wordsworth, Dorothy Richardson and Virginia Woolf or Rilke’s Paris, but also travel to the politics of power in Renaissance theatre at Ferrara and to deliberate urban erasures in post-apartheid South Africa. The texts represented range from Renaissance plays to contemporary novels and to poetry from various periods, with references to the visual arts, including film. The role of memory in contemplating the city and also specific urban metaphors developed in literature, such as boxing – the square ring – and jazz are also discussed. The transformation of cities by legislation on cemeteries, by lighting or by projects of urban renewal are the subject of articles, while others reflect on images of the city in worlds specifically forged by writers like William Blake and James Thomson. Wade, reports surfaced that twelve-year-old Minnie Lee Relf and her fourteen-year-old sister Mary Alice, the daughters of black Alabama farm hands, had been sterilized without their or their parents' knowledge or consent. Just as women's ability to control reproduction moved to the forefront of the feminist movement, the Relf sisters' plight stood as a reminder of the ways in which the movement's accomplishments had diverged sharply along racial lines. Thousands of forced sterilizations were performed on black women during this period, convincing activists in the Black Power, civil rights and women's movements that they needed to address, pointedly, the racial injustices surrounding equal access to reproductive labor and intimate life in America. As horrific as the Relf tragedy was, it fit easily within a set of critical events within black women's sexual and reproductive history in America, which black feminists argue began with coerced reproduction and enforced child neglect in the period of enslavement. While reproductive rights activists and organizations, historians and legal scholars have all begun to grapple with this history and its meaning, political theorists have yet to do so. Intimate Justice charts the long and still incomplete path to black female intimate freedom and equality--a path marked by infanticides, sexual terrorism, race riots, coerced sterilizations and racially biased child removal policies. In order to challenge prevailing understandings of freedom and equality, Shatema Threadcraft considers the troubled status of black female intimate life during four moments: antebellum slavery, Reconstruction, the nadir, and the civil rights and women's movement eras. Taking up important and often overlooked aspects of the necessary conditions for justice, Threadcraft's book is a compelling challenge to the meaning of equality in American race and gender relations.

To date, little has been written about the relationship between desistance and racialisation. This book seeks to bring much needed attention to this under-researched area of criminological inquiry. Martin Glynn builds on recent empirical research in the UK and the USA and uses Critical Race Theory as a framework for developing a fresh perspective about black men’s desistance. This book posits that the voices and collective narrative of black men offers a unique opportunity to refine current understandings of desistance. It also demonstrates how new insights can be gained by studying the ways in which elements of the desistance trajectory are racialised. This book will be of interest both to criminologists and sociologists engaged with race, racialisation, ethnicity, and criminal justice.
