Book Simulating the Development of Mexican Bean Beetle Immature Stages Epilachna Varivestis Mulsant Coleoptera Coccinellidae on Dry Beans

Download or read book Simulating the Development of Mexican Bean Beetle Immature Stages Epilachna Varivestis Mulsant Coleoptera Coccinellidae on Dry Beans written by Yuqing Fan and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer model was developed to simulate and predict the phenology of Mexican bean beetle (MBB), Epilachna varivestis Mulsant, populations on dry beans, Phaseolus vulgaris. Time-varying distributed developmental rates of the egg, four larval instars, and pupal stages were simulated with degree day models, based on a standardized cumulative probability distribution function from a range of constant temperature experiments. Predictions from the simulation model provided a good fit to the observed constant temperature data and field experiments. Using temperature data in the form of daily maximums and minimums, the model can be used to predict the occurrence of immature MBB stages under field conditions, when the frequency distribution of egg mass recruitment is known.

Book Biological Studies on the Mexican Bean Beatle Epilachna Varivestis Mulsant in the Province of Quebec

Download or read book Biological Studies on the Mexican Bean Beatle Epilachna Varivestis Mulsant in the Province of Quebec written by Lucien Auclair and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Mexican bean beetle, Epilachna varivestis Mulsant, has been reported in the southern part of the province of Quebec since the summer of 1943. This insect is known to be a serious pest of beans in the eastern United States and damage to the bean crop amounts to many hundred thousand dollars annually. In the province of Quebec, it is now present only in restricted areas along the international border and damage to the bean crop has already begun. The insect will very likely extend its distribution northward and its importance as a destructive pest of beans will grow accordingly. Studies on the biology of this beetle under our climatic conditions, which studies are essential in the control of any insect, were made during the years 1944 and 1945 and the data obtained are reported in this paper.
