Book excerpt: Abstract: An annotated bibliography for environmental and other health professionals, provides resource information generated or supported by a wide variety of US federal agencies. The guide provides information for reports on a wide variety of topics organized among 37 subject categories ranging from agriculture, pollutants, diet and nutrition, and food additives, to disease prevention, hospital workers hazards, diagnostic instruments and workers' compensation. A section on literature searches also is included. This information is intended to assist health professionals in identifying and selecting appropriate materials to update and expand their own knowledge, and to aid in the education of their students and patients. Sources of publications and audiovisual materials and listing of contributing organizations, cancer and educational resource centers, data bases clearinghouses, and accredited residences, in preventive and occupational medicine, are appended. Book Creating Environmental and Occupational Health

Download or read book Creating Environmental and Occupational Health written by Derek R. Smith and published by DARLINGTON PRESS. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Occupational hazards have plagued human civilisation since time immemorial and much of the progress in making workplaces safer is reflected by, and recorded in, the academic periodicals of environmental and occupational health. As a result, careful examination of these journals provides an interesting record of the field itself, as well as documenting the concerns and issues deemed important by editorial boards and contributors over time. 'Derek Smith has established himself as a pioneer in analyzing the literature of environmental and occupational health. Thanks to his fine work, we may use this resource to understand both the history of EOH for its own sake and the dynamics of publishing in one medium-sized, but largely self-contained, scientific field.' Book The Reclassifying of Carbon Black and the Implications for the Tyre and Rubber Industries

Download or read book The Reclassifying of Carbon Black and the Implications for the Tyre and Rubber Industries written by Alan Sheather and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This paper reviews the health hazards associated with the use of Carbon Black with particular emphasis on its possible carcinogenic properties. The paper is primarily limited to implications for the rubber and tyre industries. A review of current literature on Carbon Black relating to health effects is conducted. The review includes the major study by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). The National Occupational Health and Safety Council (NOHSC) and articles of particular interest. The current research based on animal studies and epidemiological data shows that evidence exists that Carbon Black is a possible human carcinogen. Other evidence is examined that brings into question some of the research that forms the basis of classifying Carbon Black as a possible carcinogen to humans. This is particularly associated with rat studies and exposure levels. Exposure standards are examined in relation to carcinogenic substances with the conclusion that the Australian exposure standard appears adequate given the current evidence provided by research. This is provisional on the assumption that the exposure standards are being met in Australian industry. Control measures have been suggested for the rubber and tyre industries. It is clear from the review that the current level of research on the hazards associated with the production and use of Carbon Black is not sufficient to make adequate assumptions about the its carcinogenic properties. Suggestions have been made on possible future research that would assist in clarifying the issue. Attention is particularly given to the relationship to exposure levels and possible compounding effects from other substances used in the rubber and tyre industries. " -- Abstract.
