Book A Beam Timing Monitor for the SLC Final Focus

Download or read book A Beam Timing Monitor for the SLC Final Focus written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relative timing of electron and positron bunches at the SLC interaction point (IP) is affected by phase and energy fluctuations in various upstream systems. By shifting the collision point, IP timing variation may degrade the luminosity and hinder IP spot-size tuning. To monitor the timing stability, in 1997 a novel rf monitor was installed in the South Final Focus, which measures the relative arrival time of the two bunches on every beam pulse. The monitor is based on narrow-band filtering of the beam-induced signal from a common pickup, delay of the first beam waveform into coincidence with the second, and homodyne mixing.

Book Bunch length and Beam timing Monitors in the SLC Final Focus

Download or read book Bunch length and Beam timing Monitors in the SLC Final Focus written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1997/98 luminosity run of the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC), two novel RF-based detectors were brought into operation, in order to monitor the interaction-point (IP) bunch lengths and fluctuations in the relative arrival time of the two colliding beams. Both bunch length and timing can strongly affect the SLC luminosity and had not been monitored in previous years. The two new detectors utilize a broad-band microwave signal, which is excited by the beam through a ceramic gap in the final-focus beam pipe and transported outside of the beam line vault by a 160-ft long X-Band waveguide. The authors describe the estimated luminosity reduction due to bunch-length drift and IP timing fluctuation, the monitor layout, the expected responses and signal levels, calibration measurements, and beam observations.

Book Beam loss Monitors in the SLC Final Focus

Download or read book Beam loss Monitors in the SLC Final Focus written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam-loss monitors in the SLC Final Focus System are used for protection of accelerator and detector components, optimizing adjustment of beam halo collimators, and as diagnostics of beam size and halo. Construction of a variety of monitors based on discrete ion chambers, proportional tubes, continuous ion chambers, and signals from the Mark II detector is reported. The interfaces to the SLC control system, the Mark II detector data acquisition system, and the SLC machine protection system are discussed. Experience with the system during SLC commissioning and operation is presented. 10 refs., 5 figs.

Book Measurement and Control of Charged Particle Beams

Download or read book Measurement and Control of Charged Particle Beams written by Michiko G. Minty and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the reviews: "This book is a very welcome and valuable addition to the accelerator literature. As noted by the authors, there is relatively little material in the book specifically for low-energy machines, but industrial users may still find it useful to read." Cern Courier

Book Cities and Their Vital Systems

Download or read book Cities and Their Vital Systems written by Advisory Committee on Technology and Society and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.

Book Research Directions For The Decade Snowmass 1990 Proceedings Of The 1990 Summer Study On High Energy Physics

Download or read book Research Directions For The Decade Snowmass 1990 Proceedings Of The 1990 Summer Study On High Energy Physics written by Berger Edmond L and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-09-16 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the advent of the Superconducting Super Collider and other new technologies, coupled with the development of particle astrophysics and other non-accelerator based physics, research in high energy particle physics in the nineties promises to break into new and exciting frontiers. To chart the directions and opportunities for this new decade, the 1990 Summer Study on High Energy Physics was organized in Snowmass, Colorado. Like previous Snowmass Summer Studies, it plays a key role in shaping research directions and in drawing the particle physics community together. This book of the proceedings examines the full spectrum of important scientific issues and opportunities in high energy particle physics in the decade of the 1990's, including research at existing and anitcipated hadron-hadron, e+e-, and ep colliders; research at fixed-target facilities; the scientific potential of possible new facilities such as B factories; particle astrophysics and non-accelerator based physics; and accelerator and detector initiatives. It also discusses the physics and technical aspects of the initial Superconducting Super Collider experimental program. This volume, therefore, offers a captivating glimpse into the future of high energy physics, and makes essential reading for all physicists interested in assessing the exciting new research opportunities the future technologies would bring.
