Book A Bark But No Bite

Download or read book A Bark But No Bite written by Jack Vowles and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on New Zealand Election Study (NZES) data from a sample of 2,830 eligible voters, A Bark But No Bite explores a puzzle. While there was a lot of talk about inequality before the 2014 general election in New Zealand, and during the campaign, concern about inequality appeared to have no tangible effect on the election outcome. This book shows that, by its attention to the concerns of middle ground voters, the National Government had reduced the potential of policy differences to drive voter choices. Perceptions of competence and effective leadership were National’s strongest suit, crowding out voter concerns over matters of policy. When voters did consider policy, inequality and related concerns were second to the economy. Traditional priorities about health and education, and perceptions of party differences on these matters, had faded into the background. Meanwhile, voters doubted the opposition Labour Party’s ability to govern effectively in an alternative coalition to that of the National-led government. Labour’s policies were too many. In various ways, they would have chipped away at inequality, but lacked a coherent narrative and presentation. This book confirms that Labour’s proposal to increase the age for receipt of New Zealand superannuation gained Labour no new votes. Hopes that the ‘missing million’ people who failed to turn out to vote in 2011 would vote in 2014 and give an advantage to the left were unfulfilled. A comprehensive study of the 2014 election, this book provides a detailed account of all these findings, and a host of others.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scandal, corruption, and deceit are all taking place within the house of God. Much to our dismay, the church is undeniably guilty of falling away from its original purpose. We need the breath of God to breathe life back into the body of the church. In order to help revive it, we need pastors who have the heart of God, who will not flinch when the world tries to impose itself on the church, and who will do church the way God intended and not bow to the ideology, concepts, or influence of the world. Power or Performance highlights many controversial subjects that the church has chosen to ignore or disregard. The church has a central figure in the person of Jesus Christ, a governing authority in the deity of God, and a book of canonized scripture called the Bible. The church cannot take it upon herself to make up the rules as she goes. Author Cedric R. Spearmon explores topics that expose the unethical behavior, corruption, deceit, and egregious acts perpetrated by those who call themselves Christians. He then exhorts the church to take a hard look in the mirror, examine, and return to the form God ordered and intended. Offering a call to action, this study calls attention to problems within the Christian church and exhorts the body of Christ to awaken to its sense of spiritual responsibility.

Sure, relationships can be exciting! They can also be confusing, unexpected, and expose us to profound emotional risk. However, relationships are almost always worth exploring, and if we're willing to be vulnerable, can fill up the empty or wounded spaces in our hearts. And if that doesn't work? Well, get a dog.

Book The Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development OECD

Download or read book The Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development OECD written by Richard Woodward and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-30 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2021, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is routinely heralded as one of the leading organs of global governance, yet it remains one of the least written about and least well understood of our major global institutions. This fully revised and updated second edition builds a well-rounded understanding of this crucial, though often neglected, institution. A range of clearly written chapters chart the origins and evolution of the organization, comprehend its influence, examine its current agenda, and evaluate its future prospects. Rather than the simplified characterizations of the OECD as a “rich-country’s club” or “think tank,” this book suggests that truly understanding the OECD and its significance to global governance requires it to be conceived as the entity it truly is: an international organization. New to this edition: Outlines the OECD’s origins and evolution, bringing its story fully up to date Considers the ‘OECD way’ of working, including the peer review process Examines competing views of the OECD’s influence over global governance Evaluates the OECD reform and the organization’s future prospects This concise introduction continues to be vital reading for all students of international relations, politics and world history and affairs.

Book Framing Intellectual Property Law in the 21st Century

Download or read book Framing Intellectual Property Law in the 21st Century written by Rochelle Cooper Dreyfuss and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As knowledge production has become a more salient part of the economy, intellectual property laws have expanded. From a backwater of specialists in patent, copyright, and trademark law, intellectual property has become linked to trade through successive international agreements, and appreciated as key to both economic and cultural development. Furthermore, law has begun to engage the interest of economists, political theorists, and human rights advocates. However, because each discipline sees intellectual property in its own way, legal scholarship and practice have diverged, and the debate over intellectual property law has become fragmented. This book is aimed at bringing this diverse scholarship and practice together. It examines intellectual property through successive lenses (incentive theory, trade, development, culture, and human rights) and ends with a discussion of whether and how these fragmented views can be reconciled and integrated.
