Book Microbiological Study of The Torsa River A Maiden Research

Download or read book Microbiological Study of The Torsa River A Maiden Research written by Shriparna Mukherjee and published by OrangeBooks Publication. This book was released on 2020-10-28 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a maiden study on antibiogram surveillance of copiotrophic bacteria from the Torsa River of Northern West Bengal, India. The data generated following yearlong intensive bacteriological investigation on culturable copiotrophic bacterial population of the Torsa river has been presented. The striking relationship between plasmid carriage and antibiotic resistance, presence of class 1 integrons as a mobile genetic element among the drug-resistant bacterial pool recovered, gene cassettes conferring resistance to various antibiotics, carriage of class 1 integrons on conjugative plasmids of the Gram-negative multiple-antibiotic-resistant copiotrophic bacterial isolates from River Torsa have also presented. The research work presented in this book is the first-ever microbiological study on Torsa River and therefore whatever data generated during this work period will surely be considered as a primary database.

Book The Ganga a Scientific Study

Download or read book The Ganga a Scientific Study written by C. R. Krishna Murti and published by Northern Book Centre. This book was released on 1991 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book Ganga: A Scientific Study is based on an Integrated Research Programme carried out by 14 Universities located in the Ganga Basin sponsored and funded by the Envioronment Research Committee and The Ganga Project Directorate, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India, New Delhi. The Ganga, one of World's major rivers, has been venerated as the holiest and is bound with countless beliefs and faiths especially in India and adjacent countries. Its water has traditionally been regarded as an inexhaustible gift of nature. Recent experiences do not, however, warrant such a complacency. The water resources are strained to a non-sustainable level due to rapid population explosion, urbanisation, development of agriculture, industry, livestock and power production in the Ganga basin. The hydrobiological quality of water has deteriorated and yet no concise, valid supporting evidence was available in a comprehensive manner covering the entire river. This book is an attempt towards this direction. For the first time a picture of the Ganga is available with its physico-chemical and biological charateristics, the severe pollution stress and causes to which its water is subjected to, the contents and quality of water and possible remedial measures. An account of algae including pollution sensitive and tolerant species, besides bio-indicators is available. A possible modelling exercise has also been included. A microbiological assay and the bacteria present in the river water is also given. This book, in short, is a synthesis of what the Ganga is at present in respect of its hydrobiology, pollution load, and some aspects of hydrology.

Book Effective Cross Border Monitoring Systems for Waterborne Microbial Pathogens

Download or read book Effective Cross Border Monitoring Systems for Waterborne Microbial Pathogens written by Joan B. Rose and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2008-05-14 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a real-world analysis of how to quantify and prioritize water-based microbial threats to human health, how to design data collection systems that truly support management decisions, and how to build a comprehensive monitoring program when dealing with cross-boundary issues. International borders and cross-boundary issues complicate water resource management. Even if nations or jurisdictions agree on the nature and source of the problem, differing legal frameworks complicate cross-border management, as the procedural steps and time necessary to implement a solution vary among entities. Waterborne pathogens transcend political boundaries and challenge the use of traditional political jurisdictions in meeting public policy objectives to protect human health. Disease outbreaks caused by waterborne pathogens continue to occur, even in the developed world. There has been a pronounced trend toward new and increasingly complex institutions and policies to address regional water quality management issues. However, many questions continue to arise regarding the effective management of regional resources. These questions include how to design effective monitoring strategies and what can be learned from previous successes and failures. The Laurentian Great Lakes offers a model system for exploring these questions. This book will be a valuable reference source for researchers and graduate students working in environmental science, microbiology, engineering, and biological sciences, as well as all those concerned with water quality monitoring programs.

Book Bacterial Bioflocculant for Multifunctional Features

Download or read book Bacterial Bioflocculant for Multifunctional Features written by S. Sivaramakrishnan and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bacterial Bioflocculant for Multifunctional Features highlights research findings on the production and characterization of self-assembling bioflocculant from bacterial consortium (encompassing Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecalis and Proteus mirabilis). The book describes the various high-throughput techniques for characterization of wastewater at microbiological and molecular level. Sections cover pharmaceutical compounds, macromolecular compounds and other contaminants, the biotoxicity exhibited cellular and nuclear abnormalities in the zebra fish, and high-throughput techniques used for evaluating the flocculating efficiency of the bacterial bioflocculant to remove the contaminants in different other applications. Bacterial Bioflocculant for Multifunctional Features will help users undertake further advanced research in bacterial bioflocculant for bioremediation technology and environmental prospectives. In addition, it will also inspire readers to understand bioflocculation and its functions. - Offers alternative, less expensive biotechnologies where wastewater can be reused - Focuses on the multipotent bacterial bioflocculant which plays a decisive role in bioremediation - Discusses techniques for microbially decontaminating polluted wastewater to increase re-usability
