Download or read book 11th International Conference on Magnet Technology MT 11 written by T. Sekiguchi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 796 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the years the aim of the International Conference on Magnet Technology has been the exchange of information on the design, construction and operation of magnets for a variety of applications, such as high energy physics, fusion, electrical machinery and others. The aim has included advances in materials for magnet conductors, insulators and supporting structures. Since its inception the focus of the International Conference on Magnet Technology has gradually shifted to superconducting magnets. Now almost all papers are related to superconductivity. The 11th International Conference on Magnet Technology (MT-11) was organized by the combined efforts of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, the Association for Promotion of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering, and the Tokyo Section of the IEEE. The Conference was held at the Tsukuba University Hall, Tsukuba, Japan, from 28 August to 1 September 1989, courtesy ofthe University ofTsukuba. The Tsukuba University Hall was large enough to host invited talks, parallel sessions, poster sessions and industrial exhibitions. 461 participants from 19 countries registered for MT-ll, and 280 invited and contributed papers were presented. The papers were reviewed not only by the Program Committee but also by foreign participants. Working sessions and social events were characterized by a truly international atmo sphere. Scientific as well as cultural excursions were organized so that foreign visitors could experience the spirit of modern Japan. 26 companies, of which 8 were from Western countries, participated in the industrial exhibition which featured diverse products and services of interest to the magnet community.

Book Megagauss Magnetic Field Generation Its Application to Science and Ultra high Pulsed power Technology

Download or read book Megagauss Magnetic Field Generation Its Application to Science and Ultra high Pulsed power Technology written by Hans J. Schneider-Muntau and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 749 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The generation of megagauss fields for science and technology is an exciting area at the extremes of parameter space, involving the application and controlled handling of extremely high power and energy densities in small volumes and on short time scales. New physical phenomena, technological challenges, and the selection and development of materials, together create a unique potential and synergy resulting in fascinating discoveries and achievements. This book is a collection of the contributions of an international conference, which assembled the leading scientists and engineers worldwide working on the generation and use of the strongest magnetic fields possible. Other research activities include generators that employ explosives to create ultra-high pulsed power for different applications, such as megavolt or radiation sources. Additional topics are the generation of plasmas and magnetized plasmas for fusion, imploding liners, rail guns, etc.

Book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering Materials

Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering Materials written by Leonard T. Summers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 1456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1995 International Cryogenic Materials Conference (lCMC) was held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, in conjunction with the Cryogenic Engineering Conference (CEC) on July 17-21. The interdependent subjects of the two conferences attracted more than eight hundred participants, who came to share the latest advances in low-temperature materials science and technology. They also came for the important by products of the conferences: identification of new research areas, of collaborative research possibilities, and the establishment and renewal of exploration professional relationships. Ted Collings (Ohio State University), as Chairmen of the 1995 ICMC; Ted Hartwig (Texas A&M University), as Program Chairman; and twenty-one other Program Committee members expertly arranged the ICMC technical sessions and related activities. The contributions of the CEC board and its Conference Chairman James B. Peeples of CVI, Inc., were central to the success of the eleventh CEC/ICMC. Jeff Bergen of Lake Shore Cryogenics served as Exhibits Chairman. Local arrangements and conference management were expertly handled under the guidance of Centennial Conferences, Inc. Skillful assistance with editing and preparation ofthese proceedings was provided by Ms. Vicky Bardos ofSynchrony, Inc.

Book Ordered and Turbulent Patterns in Taylor Couette Flow

Download or read book Ordered and Turbulent Patterns in Taylor Couette Flow written by C. David Andereck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seldom does a physical system, particularly one as apparently simple as the flow of a Newtonian fluid between concentric rotating cylinders, retain the interest of scientists, applied mathematicians and engineers for very long. Yet, as this volume goes to press it has been nearly 70 years since G. I. Taylor's outstanding experimental and theoretical study of the linear stability of this flow was published, and a century since the first experiments were performed on rotating cylinder viscometers. Since then, the study of this system has progressed enormously, but new features of the flow patterns are still being uncovered. Interesting variations on the basic system abound. Connections with open flows are being made. More complex fluids are used in some experiments. The vigor of the research going on in this particular example of nonequilibrium systems was very apparent at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Ordered and Turbulent Patterns in Taylor Couette Flow," held in Columbus, Ohio, USA May 22-24, 1991. A primary goal of this ARW was to bring together those interested in pattern formation in the classic Taylor Couette problem with those looking at variations on the basic system and with those interested in related systems, in order to better define the interesting areas for the future, the open questions, and the features common (and not common) to closed and open systems. This volume contains many of the contributions presented during the workshop.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made oj': Benjamin Franklin This book describes the technical principles and applications of echo-planar imaging (EPI) which, as much as any other technique, has shaped the develop ment of modern magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The principle of EPI, namely, the acquisition of multiple nuclear magnetic resonance echoes from a single spin excitation, has made it possible to shorten the previously time-con suming MRI data acquisition from minutes to much less than a second. Interest ingly, EPI is one of the oldest MRI techniques, conceived in 1976 by Sir Peter Mansfield only 4 years after the initial description of the principles of MRI. One of the inventors of MRI himself, Mansfield realized that fast data acquisition would be paramount in bringing medical applications of MRI to full fruition. The technological challenges in implementing EPI, however, were formidable. Until the end of the 1980s few people believed that EPI would be clinically useful, since its complexity was far greater than that of "conventional" MRI methods.
