Download or read book Mobile Information Retrieval written by Fabio Crestani and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-19 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a helpful starting point in the scattered, rich, and complex body of literature on Mobile Information Retrieval (Mobile IR), reviewing more than 200 papers in nine chapters. Highlighting the most interesting and influential contributions that have appeared in recent years, it particularly focuses on both user interaction and techniques for the perception and use of context, which, taken together, shape much of today’s research on Mobile IR. The book starts by addressing the differences between IR and Mobile IR, while also reviewing the foundations of Mobile IR research. It then examines the different kinds of documents, users, and information needs that can be found in Mobile IR, and which set it apart from standard IR. Next, it discusses the two important issues of user interfaces and context-awareness. In closing, it covers issues related to the evaluation of Mobile IR applications. Overall, the book offers a valuable tool, helping new and veteran researchers alike to navigate this exciting and highly dynamic area of research.

Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of two recent conferences in the ?eld of electronic publishing and digital documents: – DDEP 2000, the 8th International Conference on Digital Documents and Electronic Publishing, the successor conference to the EP conference series; and – PODDP 2000, the 5th International Workshop on the Principles of Digital Document Processing. Both conferences were held at the Technische Universit ̈ at Munc ̈ hen, Munich, Germany in September 2000. DDEP 2000 was the eighth in a biennial series of international conferences organized to promote the exchange of novel ideas concerning the computer p- duction, manipulation and dissemination of documents. This conference series has attempted to re?ect the evolving nature and usage of documents by treating digital documents and electronic publishing as a broad topic covering many - pects. These aspects have included document models, document representation and document dissemination, dynamic and hyper-documents, document ana- sis and management, and wide-ranging applications. The papers presented at DDEP 2000 and in this volume re?ect this broad view, and cover such diverse topicsashypermediastructureanddesign, multimediaauthoringtechniquesand systems, document structure inference, typography, document management and adaptation, document collections and Petri nets. All papers were refereed by an international program committee.

This book was released on 2009-01-17 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intelligent agents have revolutionised the way we do business, we teach, we learn, design systems, and so on. Agent applications are increasingly being developed in - mains as diverse as meteorology, manufacturing, war gaming, UAV mission mana- ment and the evolution of Web [1]. The Web has also has the same effect on our daily life as the intelligent agents. We use Web for information search, shopping, news, communication and so on. We wonder how we lived without Web in the past [2]. The book presents a sample of some of the most innovative research on the use of intelligent agents in the evolution of Web. There are thirteen chapters in the book. Chapters are on theoretical foundations as well as practical applications. We are grateful to the contributors and reviewers for their contribution. We believe that the research reported in the book will encourage researchers to develop the robust human-like intelligent machines for the service of humans. We sincerely thank Springer-Verlag for their editorial support during the prepa- tion of the manuscript. The editors appreciate the resources provided by Wroclaw University of Technology and the University of South Australia to edit this volume.

Download or read book Applied System Simulation written by Mohammad S. Obaidat and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Simulation and molding are efficient techniques that can aid the city and regional planners and engineers in optimizing the operation of urban systems such as traffic light control, highway toll automation, consensus building, public safety, and environmental protection. When modeling transportation systems such as freeway systems, arterial or downtown grid systems, the city planner and engineer is concerned with capturing the varied interactions between drivers, automobiles, and the infrastructure. Modeling and simulation are used to effectively optimize the design and operation of all of these urban systems. It is possible that in an urban simulation community workshop, citizens can work interactively in front of computers and be able using the click of the mouse to walk up to their own front porch, looking at the proposed shopping mall alternatives across the street from virtually any angle and proposed bridge or tunnel and see how it can reduce traffic congestion. Buildings can be scaled down or taken out, their orientation can be changed in order to check the view and orientation in order to have better site with efficient energy-conservation. The stone or brick material on a building can be replaced by colored concrete, or more trees and lampposts can be placed on the site. Such flexibility in simulation and animation allows creative ideas in the design and orientation of urban sites to be demonstrated to citizens and decision makers before final realization.
