Book Finite Element Analysis of Thin Walled Structures

Download or read book Finite Element Analysis of Thin Walled Structures written by Dr John W. Bull and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-01-25 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes current developments in finite element analysis and the design of certain types of thin-walled structures. The first three chapters lay the foundations for the development and use of finite elements for thin-walled structures, look at finite elements packages and discuss data input and mesh arrangements. The final four chapters use the finite element method to assist in the solution of thin-walled structure problems. Some of the problems solved include; water and air inflated structures; axisymmetric thin shells; ship structures and offshore structures. This book will be an interest to design engineers, researchers and postgraduates.

Book Solution of Superlarge Problems in Computational Mechanics

Download or read book Solution of Superlarge Problems in Computational Mechanics written by James H. Kane and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a need to solve problems in solid and fluid mechanics that currently exceed the resources of current and foreseeable supercomputers. The issue revolves around the number of degrees of freedom of simultaneous equations that one needs to accurately describe the problem, and the computer storage and speed limitations which prohibit such solutions. The goals of tHis symposium were to explore some of the latest work being done in both industry and academia to solve such extremely large problems, and to provide a forum for the discussion and prognostication of necessary future direc tions of both man and machine. As evidenced in this proceedings we believe these goals were met. Contained in this volume are discussions of: iterative solvers, and their application to a variety of problems, e.g. structures, fluid dynamics, and structural acoustics; iterative dynamic substructuring and its use in structural acoustics; the use of the boundary element method both alone and in conjunction with the finite element method; the application of finite difference methods to problems of incompressible, turbulent flow; and algorithms amenable to concurrent computations and their applications. Furthermore, discussions of existing computational shortcomings from the big picture point of view are presented that include recommendations for future work.

Book Computational Wind Engineering 1

Download or read book Computational Wind Engineering 1 written by S. Murakami and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 925 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this volume is to explore the challenges posed by the rapid development of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) within the field of engineering. CFD is already essential to research concerned with fluid flow in civil engineering, and its further potential for application in wind engineering is highly promising. State-of-the-art papers from all over the world are contained here, illuminating the present parameters of the field, as well as suggesting fruitful areas for further research. Eleven papers have been contributed by invited speakers outstanding in the fields of CFD and wind engineering. This volume will serve as a vehicle to promote further development in computational wind engineering.

Book Force Method Optimization II

Download or read book Force Method Optimization II written by Batt J. R. and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The program was developed to support the investigation of the utilization of the force method of finite element analysis for the automatic iterative design of aircraft structures with stress, displacements, maximum and minimum size and dynamic constraints. It develops a rapid reanalysis method based on the force method for damage assessment. Research has resulted in a computer code named OPTFORCE II an expansion of code OPTFORCE I. Multiple loading capabilities and four finite elements have been included. These are: membrane triangle, membrane quadrilateral, shear panel and bar (axial force). Examples of problems solved by the OPTFORCE II code are presented and compared to the optimization code OPTIM III for purposes of establishing the efficiency of the force method vs. the 'displacement' method of analysis. A technical discussion of the research conducted is presented wherein conclusions and recommendations for future research topics are given.
