Download or read book The Biology of History Ascent of Women written by Virendra Pandit and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 849 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly, our world is becoming incomprehensible. Many people, societies, even countries, behave in strange ways: America turns intolerant toward its own whistleblowers, Arabia leads the world in opening a women-only university, Britain turns largely un-Christian, India increasingly buries herself under a surfeit of democracy, and China under communism. This book is about the emerging mega-picture, a reinterpretation of world history along Darwinian lines. In order to survive in the biological food web, humans needed connectivity, which our religions provided. It goes into the evolution and dissolution of religions, across centuries, as our biggest connecting and integrating factors yet, and how these weakening faiths are now being replaced by new, robust connectors: democracy, science, technology. Of course, we still have many devout around, but their beliefs have shorter shelf life. These silent but gigantic changes are restructuring our societies. With the change in emphasis in the very infrastructure of the human society, the entire edifice is undergoing transformation and renovation—it is nothing less than the Ascent of Women, the Fourth Wave, for the first time since the dawn of civilization some ten thousand years ago. This book is for those who would enter this New World!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delving into a tumultuous year’s impact on art, culture, and politics, this book “illuminates the often-overlooked histories of 1968” (The Journal of American History). From the mid-1960s to the early 1970s, revolutions in theory, politics, and cultural experimentation swept around the world. These changes had as great a transformative impact on the right as on the left. A touchstone for activists, artists, and theorists of all stripes, the year 1968 has taken on new significance for the present moment, which bears certain uncanny resemblances to that time. The Long 1968 explores the wide-ranging impact of the year and its aftermath in politics, theory, the arts, and international relations—and its uses today.

Download or read book Peasants Pilgrims and Sacred Promises written by Laura Stark and published by Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura. This book was released on 2002-06-27 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lying on the border between eastern and western Christendom, Orthodox Karelia preserved its unique religious culture into the 19th and 20th centuries, when it was described and recorded by Finnish and Karelian folklore collectors. This colorful array of ritulas and beliefs involving nature spirits, saints, the dead, and pilgrimage to monasteries represented a unigue fusion of official Church ritual and doctrine and pre-Christian ethnic folk belief. This book undertakes a fascinating exploration into many aspects of Orthodox Karelian ritual life: beliefs in supernatural forces, folk models of illness, body concepts, divination, holy icons, the role of the ritual specialist and healer, the divide between nature and culture, images of forest, the cult of the dead, and the popular image of monasteries and holy hermits. It will appeal to anyone interested in popular religion, the cognitive study of religion, ritual studies, medical anthropology, and the folk traditions and symbolism of the Balto-Finnic peoples.
Download or read book Reading Ephesians and Colossians after Supersessionism written by Lionel J. Windsor and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostolic mission from Israel to “the nations” forms the explicit framework for Ephesians and Colossians. Yet the concrete dynamics of this mission seldom play any significant role in modern interpretation. Scholars frequently approach these letters as if the Jew-gentile dynamics inherent in the early Christ-preaching mission are either irrelevant, or are negated by the letters themselves. This book seeks to redress this deficiency. Windsor approaches Ephesians and Colossians with an evangelical post-supersessionist perspective. By highlighting, rather than downplaying, Israel’s special place in salvation history, Windsor demonstrates that Jew-gentile dynamics and missionary concerns are highly significant for understanding the overall argument of these two letters. The resulting readings offer a deeper appreciation of the biblical, Israel-centered contours in which the theological and ethical concerns of the letters are expressed. Along the way, Windsor demonstrates how certain texts in Ephesians and Colossians, which are often read as evidence of a supersessionist perspective, are capable of more fruitful and satisfactory post-supersessionist interpretations. He demonstrates that in these letters, Christ does not negate Jewish distinctiveness. Rather, Christ’s mission proceeds through Israel to the nations, creating mutual blessing in the Messiah.
