Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immediate post-war designs of most cars, from any manufacturer, had more than a hint of their pre-war brethren and Plymouth was no exception. New developments, however, were on the way and arrived in 1950. Although functional they were not style leaders. Few changes were made until 1953 which bought a complete re-design of which there were few criticisms regarding the standard of workmanship and interior fittings. The engine was still the old side-valve six and there was no automatic transmission as yet, but the cars ride and handle well with good durability. By 1957 the Plymouth Fury was being described as an enthusiast's car, the V8 engine making an enormous performance difference, and Torsion-Aire Ride was introduced. The engineering changes made this year were to stay with Plymouth for many years. This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, specification and technical data, new model intro's, driver's reports and track tests. Models covered include: Cambridge, Cranbrook, Suburban Station Wagon, Explorer, Belvedere, Sport Coupe, V8, Plaza, Fury, Savoy.

Book American Cars 1946 1959

Download or read book American Cars 1946 1959 written by J. “Kelly” Flory, Jr. and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2008-11-24 with total page 1049 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the resumption of automobile production at the close of World War II through the 1950s, the American auto industry would see the births and deaths of several manufacturers, great technological advances, and an era of dramatic styling as a prospering nation asserted its growing mobility. Cars of this period are among the most iconic vehicles ever built in the United States: the 1949 Ford, the remarkable Studebaker designs of 1950 and 1953, the 1955-1957 Chevrolets, the "Forward Look" Chrysler products, the ill-fated Edsel and many others. This comprehensive reference book details every model from each of the major manufacturers (including independents such as Kaiser-Frazer and Crosley but excluding very low-volume marques such as Tucker) from model years 1946 through 1959. Year by year, it provides an overview of the industry and market, followed by an individual report on each company: its main news for the year (introductions or cancellations of models, new engines and transmissions, advertising themes, sales trends etc.); its production figures and market status; and its powertrain offerings, paint colors and major options. The company's models are then detailed individually with such information as body styles, prices, dimensions and weights, standard equipment and production figures. Nearly 1,000 photographs are included.

Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER "This novel is studded with sharp observations . . . Babitz’s talent for the brilliant line, honed to a point, never interferes with her feel for languid pleasures." —The New York Times Book Review The popular rediscovery of Eve Babitz continues with this very special reissue of her novel, originally published in 1979, about a dreamy young girl moving between the planets of Los Angeles and New York City. We first meet Jacaranda in Los Angeles. She’s a beach bum, a part–time painter of surfboards, sun–kissed and beautiful. Jacaranda has an on–again, off–again relationship with a married man and glitters among the city’s pretty creatures, blithely drinking White Ladies with any number of tycoons, unattached and unworried in the pleasurable mania of California. Yet she lacks a purpose—so at twenty–eight, jobless, she moves to New York to start a new life and career, eager to make it big in the world of New York City. Sex and Rage delights in its sensuous, dreamlike narrative and its spontaneous embrace of fate, and work, and of certain meetings and chances. Jacaranda moves beyond the tango of sex and rage into the open challenge of a defined and more fulfilling expressive life. Sex and Rage further solidifies Eve Babitz's place as a singularly important voice in Los Angeles literature—haunting, alluring, and alive.

They possessed all the mills on the Pawtuxet River and were largely democratic, while the eastern section was primarily republican. Finally in 1913, the town of West Warwick was incorporated and became the youngest town in the state of Rhode Island. West Warwick still maintains that status today as it celebrates its centennial in 2013. The town of nine villages--Arctic, Centreville, Clyde, Crompton, Lippitt, Natick, Phenix, River Point, and Wescott--has grown to be the 10th largest out of 39 cities and towns in Rhode Island. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1966, an old friend invites Matt Vercair to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to assist in disassembling and selling a now defunct Haitian railroad, acquired under unusual circumstances. Once in Haiti, Matt is introduced to chief archeologist Dr. Marc Blanchet. Blanchet is an expert on Christopher Columbus and everything he did on the island of Hispaniola. According to Blanchet, the history being taught about Columbus is a fraud. Instead of exploration, Columbus’s true intentions were to amass gold and sell as many slaves as he could to finance his travels. Blanchet knows where a large cache of Columbus’s gold has been hidden in Haiti for five hundred years. With the help of a map, Matt now embarks on an incredible journey to recover the gold, traveling across previously unexplored terrain. The railroad is of little concern as they search for hidden treasure, but it’s possible Matt is about to find a lot more than riches in the beautiful but dangerous wilds of Hispaniola.
