Book 52 Activities for Family Fun

Download or read book 52 Activities for Family Fun written by Laura Torres and published by Abrams. This book was released on 2012-10-20 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If your family is like mine, time with everyone together is becoming more and more difficult. We all have crazy schedules, and it’s easy to put family time aside for soccer games, school assignments, meetings, chores, and other obligations. Now that some of my children have gone away to college, I realize how fleeting that family time can be, and that there is no substitute for time having fun together, laughing and learning. If you can set aside just one evening a week, with no other purpose than being together, your family will be greatly enriched. You don’t need to plan anything fancy. An easy game, or even just some conversation starters over dinner, is enough to build happy memories. However, sometimes it’s hard to think of something to do that works for all age groups and engages everyone. That is the purpose of this book. Included here are some of my family’s favorite activities, from silly road trip word games to service projects to cooking contests. Organized by season, these ideas have been tested many times over and continue to bring my family many hours of fun. We play the If/Then game on birthdays, and Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same if we weren't drawing on paper plates on our heads. I hope these ideas help you plan your own family time and bring you many happy memories as well. --from the Introduction

Book Family Fun Nights Book

  • Pages : 57 pages

Download or read book Family Fun Nights Book written by Leslie Timm and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-05 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Family time...we all know we need more of it, both family togetherness and time. Unfortunately, we cannot gather more time, it is something that is fixed and never changing. But what we can do is find time to have more fun with our families. It doesn't have to be an extravagant vacation or an everyday thing, but setting aside some time each week to solely spend with each other can make a drastic impact on the way your family interacts with each other. With this book, I have compiled 52 ideas for a once-a-week family fun night. That means there is something to do each week of the year. It usually works best if you choose a set day of the week to have this special day, but there is always room for flexibility. If your family would work best by choosing a different day each week based on that week's schedule, by all means, do that. The key is to get the family together once a week and have lots of fun. Side note...if a week is a bad one and your family just can't come together that week, don't worry about it. You want to have more time together without added stress. So you miss a week, just try again the following week. The way to use this book is to first figure out which day your family is going to do. Then look over that night of fun activities. P.S. You do not have to do said activities at night. For some families, mornings or afternoons might work best, go with the dynamic of your household. After looking over the plans for your family fun night, you need to decide which activities you want to implement. Nothing in this book is required, it's all just ideas and starting points for other things you might like to incorporate. Always modify, change, add to, take away anything you don't find fitting for your group. There may even be things listed that because of where you live or your resources you may not be able to do. Okay, next you want to be sure to gather the supplies needed or make the necessary arrangements to move forward with your family time. Last, have fun and really enjoy your time together. Now I have placed a circle on the left side of each activity. If you're like me and want to check things off as you plan them, or check them off as you do them the choice is yours. It is also your choice to not mark anything off at all. Remember you do not have to do each and every activity. You can implement just two and have a nice time together. You can even substitute any activity you choose with your own idea or something else you all would like to do. Be sure to implement a no-devices policy aside from it being something that is encouraged in the book or for taking photos. You'll certainly want to document some of these precious moments. Have a great time celebrating your family and cheers to spending more time together!

Book The Whole Brain Child

Download or read book The Whole Brain Child written by Daniel J. Siegel and published by Delacorte Press. This book was released on 2011-10-04 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • More than 1 million copies in print! • The authors of No-Drama Discipline and The Yes Brain explain the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures in this pioneering, practical book. “Simple, smart, and effective solutions to your child’s struggles.”—Harvey Karp, M.D. In this pioneering, practical book, Daniel J. Siegel, neuropsychiatrist and author of the bestselling Mindsight, and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson offer a revolutionary approach to child rearing with twelve key strategies that foster healthy brain development, leading to calmer, happier children. The authors explain—and make accessible—the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures. The “upstairs brain,” which makes decisions and balances emotions, is under construction until the mid-twenties. And especially in young children, the right brain and its emotions tend to rule over the logic of the left brain. No wonder kids throw tantrums, fight, or sulk in silence. By applying these discoveries to everyday parenting, you can turn any outburst, argument, or fear into a chance to integrate your child’s brain and foster vital growth. Complete with age-appropriate strategies for dealing with day-to-day struggles and illustrations that will help you explain these concepts to your child, The Whole-Brain Child shows you how to cultivate healthy emotional and intellectual development so that your children can lead balanced, meaningful, and connected lives. “[A] useful child-rearing resource for the entire family . . . The authors include a fair amount of brain science, but they present it for both adult and child audiences.”—Kirkus Reviews “Strategies for getting a youngster to chill out [with] compassion.”—The Washington Post “This erudite, tender, and funny book is filled with fresh ideas based on the latest neuroscience research. I urge all parents who want kind, happy, and emotionally healthy kids to read The Whole-Brain Child. This is my new baby gift.”—Mary Pipher, Ph.D., author of Reviving Ophelia and The Shelter of Each Other “Gives parents and teachers ideas to get all parts of a healthy child’s brain working together.”—Parent to Parent
