Book 52 Words Every Christian Should Know

Download or read book 52 Words Every Christian Should Know written by Kendell H. Easley and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Biblical Literacy Project recently released a report that once again underscores just how little young Americans know about the Bible. Even more surprising is that many Americans don’t see why it’s important to know something about the Bible. As a skilled educator, Kendell Easley continues to be surprised at how uninformed students are of basic biblical and theological terms as they enter college and seminary. Further, as a churchman and an active observer of the local church scene, he is persuaded that many people who have been in church all their lives have somehow failed to gain a basic understanding of essential Christian words. In 52 Words Every Christian Should Know, Easley provides a Bible verse in which each word or concept is used, a succinct definition, and helpful articles further explaining the significance of each entry. Finally, he poses interactive questions to the readers, drawing them closer into a personal relationship with God.

Book 70 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know

Download or read book 70 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know written by Matthew Richard Schlimm and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic message of the Bible can be understood in any language. At the same time, many biblical texts are hard to understand because they don’t quite make sense when translated into English. Something is missing. Quite frequently, what readers miss has been lost in translation. Maybe there is a pun or wordplay in the original. Sometimes names like Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, and Eden just seem like names to us but have meanings that are essential to the story. Many Hebrew words have multiple meanings, but the English translators have to just pick one (for example, the same Hebrew word can mean both hear and obey). Even more common are Hebrew words that have much wider meanings than their English translations. A few examples are the Hebrew words rendered as remember, covenant, walk, gates, love, cleanliness, holiness, glory, wisdom, and fear. The original language allows various parts to click together like well-constructed puzzle pieces. With Hebrew in mind, interpreters see new details they didn’t realize were missing before. They make new connections. They immerse themselves in scripture more fully. That’s where this book comes in. Learning a language is like learning a worldview. Those who learn biblical Hebrew can better understand not only what biblical authors wrote, but also how they thought. Unfortunately, those insights come only after years of study. This book is about getting right to the important, exciting insights. It’s an opportunity to be transformed by the renewing of our minds as we better understand how biblical authors used their language to express their experience of God and the world. If you are just beginning to study Hebrew and want the insights and motivation to continue or if you have no intention of learning biblical Hebrew but want to better understand the Bible, this book is for you!

Book What Every Christian Should Know about Islam

Download or read book What Every Christian Should Know about Islam written by Christian S. Anderson and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Every Christian Should Know about Islam can be read profitably by the serious student or by anyone who just wants to get a basic handle on the religion founded by Muhammed almost 1400 years ago. It is a distillation of the history and teachings of Islam written from a Christian perspective. An entire chapter is devoted to answering the false claims one will commonly find on Islamic web sites. Another chapter covers the subject of Islam and terrorism, and that the utilization of it as a jihadist tactic comes out of the tradition and philosophy of the revolutionary Left, rather than from the religion of Islam itself. Some other less-known facts one will discover in this book include the following: Muhammed married one of his favorite wives when she was merely a child of about nine That the Sunni/Shia division of Islam had its origin in a feud between two of Mecca's clans that dates from pre-Islamic times The god of Islam, Allah, was originally the Lunar Deity of the pre-Islamic pagan Arabs That Islam itself began as a Christian heresy Muslims originally faced Jerusalem, and not Mecca, while in prayer Mr. Anderson studied Biblical languages at Life Pacific College in Los Angeles, graduating with a BA degree in 1979. He also has AS degrees from Riverside Community College in Riverside, California. Following the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, he determined to learn everything he could about Islam and the jihadist threat. What Every Christian Should Know about Islam is a product of approximately 4 years of research. Mr. Anderson has taught the Bible, Christian doctrine, and apologetics for many years in various churches in Southern California's Inland Empire.

Book Two Important Greek Words Frequently Used by the Lord Jesus Christ and His Disciples in Their Teachings and Preaching Concerning poieo and ergazomai

Download or read book Two Important Greek Words Frequently Used by the Lord Jesus Christ and His Disciples in Their Teachings and Preaching Concerning poieo and ergazomai written by Repsaj Jasper and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-04-10 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When John the Baptist was in prison he sent two of his disciples to ask Jesus whether He was the One coming or should they expect another? The Lord Jesus answer to them was by quoting Isaiah 35:5-6 and adding that He came to preach the gospel to the poor. This incident was reported in Matthew 11:3-5 and Luke 7:20-22. After His water baptism by John the Baptist and the coming of the Holy Spirit to dwell in Him and after He was driven by the Holy Spirit to the wilderness and after He passed all the tests the devil placed upon Him, He went straight into preaching the gospel and calling the people to repent and believe in the gospel(Mark 1:12-15). In anothe incident recorded in Luke 4:18 the Lord went into a synagogue in Nazareth and He read to the congregation Isaiah 61:1-2 in which He revealed that He was the One the God anointed and sent to preach the gospel to the poor. WHAT EXACTLY IS THE GOSPEL OF SALVATION PREACHED BY THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WHEN HE WAS ON THE EARTH? There are hardly any books by "Christian authors" giving the details of the gospel as preached by the Lord. Isaiah 61:1-2 and Luke 4:18 are very clear scriptures that the God anointed Jesus Christ to preach the gospel to the poor. Yet almost all the writings and sermons by "Christian theologians and preachers" concerning the gospel were/are based mainly on the teachings of Paul. Paul himself revealed in Ephesians 2:20 that believers must be built up on the FOUNDATION of the apostles and prophets, the Lord Jesus being the CORNERSTONE. This means the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ are the CORNERSTONE and the teachings of the apostles and prophets are the FOUNDATION. The FOUNDATION is clearly based upon the CORNERSTONE. This means the teachings of Peter, Paul, John, James, etc must be based upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, the CORNERSTONE. During the time of the apostle Paul the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were not available to be used as the BASIS to compare with what Paul, Peter, John, James, etc taught. Called out ones especially the gentiles only have what Paul taught them. Many of Paul's teachings concerning salvation in relation to works, faith, law, etc. appear contradictory or open to different ways of interpretation which had led to the establishment of many different sects of Christianity, hence many organizational churches. The interpretation of the teachings of Pauls and other apostles must be based upon the CORNERSTONE teachings of the Lord Jesus in order to arrive at the true understanding of the gospel as taught by the apostles. This book in particular details the teachings of the Lord Jesus principally and His apostles and prophets secondarily concerning two Greek words "poieo"(meaning to do or to make or to produce") and "ergazomai"(meaning to toil or to labour) in relation to the gospel of salvation. Since "poieo" and "ergazomai" are directly linked to works, it means the gospel of salvation requires doing and labouring works that are acceptable to the Lord Jesus Christ in order for believers to receive everlasting life. All the books written by the author have one theme: All interpretations of all the writings and teachings of the apostles and prophets must be based upon the clear CORNERSTONE teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ in order to arrive at their true meaning and understanding that are essential to the belief and walk of every believer to receive everlasting life. Wrong interpretation of Paul's teachings will lead to false understanding of the gospel of salvation and will lead those who believe to the broad road to damnation and not to everlasting life, because they will lead believers to follow a different Jesus Christ and not the true Jesus Christ, the One who will lead true believers to everlasting life through obedience to the true gospel of salvation.
