Book A Guide to Mathematical Tables

Download or read book A Guide to Mathematical Tables written by N. M. Burunova and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Guide to Mathematical Tables is a supplement to the Guide to Mathematical Tables published by the U.S.S.R. Academy of Sciences in 1956. The tables contain information on subjects such as powers, rational and algebraic functions, and trigonometric functions, as well as logarithms and polynomials and Legendre functions. An index listing all functions included in both the Guide and the Supplement is included. Comprised of 15 chapters, this supplement first describes mathematical tables in the following order: the accuracy of the table (that is, the number of decimal places or significant figures); the limits of variation of the argument and the interval of the table; and the serial number of the book or journal in the reference material. The second part gives the author, title, publishing house, and date and place of publication for books, and the name of the journal, year of publication, series, volume and number, page and author and title of the article cited for journals. Topics range from exponential and hyperbolic functions to factorials, Euler integrals, and related functions. Sums and quantities related to finite differences are also tabulated. This book will be of interest to mathematicians and mathematics students.

Book Introduction to Mathematics for Life Scientists

Download or read book Introduction to Mathematics for Life Scientists written by E. Batschelet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few decades ago mathematics played a modest role in life sciences. Today, however, a great variety of mathematical methods is applied in biology and medicine. Practically every mathematical procedure that is useful in physics, chemistry, engineering, and economics has also found an important application in the life sciences. The past and present training of life scientists does by no means reflect this development. However, the impact of the fast growing number of applications of mathematical methods makes it indispensable that students in the life sciences are offered a basic training in mathematics, both on the undergraduate and the graduate level. This book is primarily designed as a textbook for an introductory course. Life scientists may also use it as a reference to find mathematical methods suitable to their research problems. Moreover, the book should be appropriate for self-teaching. It will also be a guide for teachers. Numerous references are included to assist the reader in his search for the pertinent literature.

Book Foundational and Applied Statistics for Biologists Using R

Download or read book Foundational and Applied Statistics for Biologists Using R written by Ken A. Aho and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Full of biological applications, exercises, and interactive graphical examples, this text presents comprehensive coverage of both modern analytical methods and statistical foundations. The author harnesses the inherent properties of the R environment to enable students to examine the code of complicated procedures step by step and thus better understand the process of obtaining analysis results. The graphical capabilities of R are used to provide interactive demonstrations of simple to complex statistical concepts. R code and other materials are available online.

Book Simulation Statistical Foundations and Methodology

Download or read book Simulation Statistical Foundations and Methodology written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1972-09-29 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; andmethods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particularbranches, such as optimal filtering and information compression.- Best operator approximation,- Non-Lagrange interpolation,- Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform- Generalised low-rank matrix approximation- Optimal data compression- Optimal nonlinear filtering

Book Applied Life Data Analysis

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WILEY-INTERSCIENCE PAPERBACK SERIES The Wiley-Interscience Paperback Series consists of selected books that have been made more accessible to consumers in an effort to increase global appeal and general circulation. With these new unabridged softcover volumes, Wiley hopes to extend the lives of these works by making them available to future generations of statisticians, mathematicians, and scientists. "Many examples drawn from the author’s experience of engineering applications are used to illustrate the theoretical results, which are presented in a cookbook fashion...it provides an excellent practical guide to the analysis of product-life data." –T.M.M. Farley Special Programme of Research in Human Reproduction World Health Organization Geneva, Switzerland Review in Biometrics, September 1983 Now a classic, Applied Life Data Analysis has been widely used by thousands of engineers and industrial statisticians to obtain information from life data on consumer, industrial, and military products. Organized to serve practitioners, this book starts with basic models and simple informative probability plots of life data. Then it progresses through advanced analytical methods, including maximum likelihood fitting of advanced models to life data. All data analysis methods are illustrated with numerous clients' applications from the author's consulting experience.
