Book 5 MeV Mott Polarimeter Development at Jefferson Lab

Download or read book 5 MeV Mott Polarimeter Development at Jefferson Lab written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low energy (E{sub k}=100 keV) Mott scattering polarimeters are ill- suited to support operations foreseen for the polarized electron injector at Jefferson Lab. One solution is to measure the polarization at 5 MeV where multiple and plural scattering are unimportant and precision beam monitoring is straightforward. The higher injector beam current offsets the lower cross-sections. Recent improvements in the CEBAF injector polarimeter scattering chamber have improved signal to noise.

Book Polarized Gas Targets and Polarized Beams

Download or read book Polarized Gas Targets and Polarized Beams written by Roy J. Holt and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 1998-02-20 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the author begins with the elementary theory of Markov chains and very progressively brings the reader to the more advanced topics. He gives a useful review of probability that makes the book self-contained, and provides an appendix with detailed proofs of all the prerequisites from calculus, algebra, and number theory. A number of carefully chosen problems of varying difficulty are proposed at the close of each chapter, and the mathematics are slowly and carefully developed, in order to make self-study easier. The author treats the classic topics of Markov chain theory, both in discrete time and continuous time, as well as the connected topics such as finite Gibbs fields, nonhomogeneous Markov chains, discrete- time regenerative processes, Monte Carlo simulation, simulated annealing, and queuing theory. The result is an up-to-date textbook on stochastic processes. Students and researchers in operations research and electrical engineering, as well as in physics and biology, will find it very accessible and relevant.

Book Spin 96 Proceedings Of The 12th International Symposium On High energy Spin Physics

Download or read book Spin 96 Proceedings Of The 12th International Symposium On High energy Spin Physics written by J E J Oberski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-04-15 with total page 906 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments using highly polarized intense beams and targets, and theoretical studies of spin and polarization phenomena, are now providing us with numerous additional details of the electroweak and strong interactions and the structure of matter. The spin structure of the nucleon has been measured over wide ranges of kinematic variables, and the cross sections have been calculated to several orders in perturbative field theory. At present, the influence of the higher twist contributions, the gluon spin, and the quark orbital angular momentum are under scrutiny. Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) captures a lot of our experimental knowledge of hard polarized scattering processes. Can our understanding of such processes within QCD be further improved?Hyperons produced in high energy reactions show how puzzling strong interactions between hadrons still are. Spin observables in experiments at intermediate energy are used to test parity and charge symmetries. Will they also reveal, at low energy, a violation of time reversal symmetry? We are on the verge of using parity violation measurements at intermediate electron scattering energies to determine the amount of strange quark contributions to the neutral weak form factor of the nucleon. The polarization of the sea quarks is expected to be measured soon in W± decays produced in high energy polarized proton interactions. Will the jets in polarized Z⁰ decays show a definite handedness? These and many other topics are discussed in these proceedings.

Book Compton Polarimeter for Qweak Experiment at Jefferson Laboratory

Download or read book Compton Polarimeter for Qweak Experiment at Jefferson Laboratory written by David Zou and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Qweak experiment at Jefferson Lab aims to make the first precision measurement of the proton's weak charge, QP = 1 - 4 sin 2 9w at Q2 = 0.026GeV 2 . Given the precision goals in the Qweak experiment, the electron beam polarization must be known to an absolute uncertainty of 1%. A new Compton polarimeter has been built and installed in Hall C in order to make this important measurement. Compton polarimetry has been chosen for its ability to deliver continuous on-line measuremnts at high currents necessary for Qweak (up to 180pzA). In this thesis, we collected and analyzed electron beam polarization data using the Qweak Compton polarimeter. Currently, data from the Compton can already be used to calculate preliminary values of experimental physics asymmetries and also the electron beam polarization. These preliminary results are promising indications that Qweak will be able to meet its stated precision goals.

Book Preliminary Results from Integrating Compton Photon Polarimetry in Hall A of Jefferson Lab

Download or read book Preliminary Results from Integrating Compton Photon Polarimetry in Hall A of Jefferson Lab written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide range of nucleon and nuclear structure experiments in Jefferson Lab's Hall A require precise, continuous measurements of the polarization of the electron beam. In our Compton polarimeter, electrons are scattered off photons in a Fabry-Perot cavity; by measuring an asymmetry in the integrated signal of the scattered photons detected in a GSO crystal, we can make non-invasive, continuous measurements of the beam polarization. Our goal is to achieve 1% statistical error within two hours of running. We discuss the design and commissioning of an upgrade to this apparatus, and report preliminary results for experiments conducted at beam energies from 3.5 to 5.9 GeV and photon rates from 5 to 100 kHz.

This book was released on 2019 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jefferson Lab's cutting-edge parity-violating electron scattering program has increasingly stringent requirements for systematic errors. Beam polarimetry is often one of the dominant systematic errors in these experiments. A new Moeller Polarimeter in Hall A of Jefferson Lab (JLab) was installed in 2015 and has taken first measurements for a polarized scattering experiment. Upcoming parity violation experiments in Hall A include CREX, PREX-II, MOLLER and SOLID with the latter two requiring

This book was released on 2000-04-05 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains lectures on several topics of great current relevance in strong interaction physics. The lectures were presented at the 13th Annual HUGS at CEBAF summer school to an audience of advanced PhD students, both theorists and experimentalists. They reflect the current trend of nuclear physics research, shaped to a large extent by the experimental progress allowed by facilities such as CEBAF at Jefferson Lab, where the study of nuclei and the nucleon and its excitations by means of electron scattering can be carried out with unprecedented precision and completeness in a wide kinematic range. This volume should serve the graduate student and the researcher equally well.
