Download or read book Giambattista Tiepolo 1696 1770 Venice Museum of Ca Rezzonico from September 5 to December 9 1996 The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York from January 24 to April 27 1997 written by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 1996 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in conjunction with an exhibit which opened in Venice in 1996 and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York during the first part of 1997. The exhibit organizers aimed to show Tiepolo as one of the presiding geniuses of the European imagination. In essays and entries on every work shown, the text illuminates his formation; his mastery of mythological and poetic subjects; his religious pictures; his excursions into portraiture and studies of ideal heads; and the process by which he proceeded from initial ideas--small- scale sketches--to large canvases and frescoes. Beautifully produced, the volume makes a stunning impact, and will have to suffice for those who can't make it to the exhibit itself. Download or read book Nero in Opera written by Gesine Manuwald and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-05-28 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book considers the story of Nero and Octavia, as told in the pseudo-Senecan Octavia and the works of ancient historiographers, and its reception in (early) modern opera and some related examples of other performative genres. In total the study assembles more than 30 performative texts (including 22 librettos), ranging chronologically from L'incoronazione di Poppea in 1642/43 until the early 20th century, and provides detailed information on all of them. In a close examination of the libretto (and dramatic) texts, the study shows the impact and development of this fascinating story from the beginnings of historical opera onwards. The volume demonstrates the various transformations of the characters of Nero and his wives and of the depiction of their relationship over the centuries, and it looks at the tension between “historical” elements and genre conventions. The book is therefore of relevance to literary scholars as well as to readers interested in the evolution of Nero’s image in present-day media.

Download or read book Architectural Conservation Studio written by Calogero Bellanca and published by Sapienza Università Editrice. This book was released on 2020-01-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a series of reflections on the study of architectural preexistences that have matured during the almost thirty-five years of study and research in Italy and Europe. Furthermore, it shows how the discipline of restoration of monuments is all based in architecture, intended in its many-faceted meanings. The methodical approach to the restoration of historic architecture consists in the historical-critical analysis, central nucleus of the study of architecture and is composed by specific in-depth thematic sessions (the historical iconography; the analysis of the constructive features; the constructive model; the volumetric layout; metrological and proportional analysis; the theme of the figurative model; the analysis of masonry; the theme of decorations; spolia and reemployed; comparisons, analogies and differences; the reading of the architectural organism through the synthesis of the monument in time). The author and his team have collected thematic essays on key issues that have great interest not only in Italy but also abroad. From the general concepts to examples of the application of Italian consolidated restoration methodology to the analysis and conservation of historic architecture.
