Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of my fondest memories in sports have come from games or situations where the impossible becomes reality. As I watched, I had this feeling that I hoped an unlikely athlete would become the hero ofthe moment or an underdog team could pull out an unexpected victory. Some boys and girls only ever have one opportunity to have this feeling, and we all hope that we can be there to share it with them. This book contains the stories of some of these young athletes. I hope you enjoy reading these stories and get the feeling of why it is fun to Root for the Underdog. Sports have been a big part of my life since my childhood days in Levittown, Pa. I enjoyed baseball from my Little League all the way up to high school. I liked so many sports that I was always busy playing something. In high school I lettered in soccer, tennis and basketball. In the summer I pitched softball for several adult teams. At Kutztown University I concentrated on tennis and basketball. After graduating from college I played on a semi-professional basketball team, the Exeter Black Knights, which won the National Amateur Basketball Championship in 1969. I still enjoy watching sports on television and in person - especially when my grandchildren are participating.

Book Everything You Want to Know about Jesus

Download or read book Everything You Want to Know about Jesus written by Peter Douglas Downey and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus is the most influential person who ever lived. But for many of us, he has ceased to be a real person. We’ve sanitised him with pious jargon, framed him in stained glass, and reduced him to a religious puppet who floats through biblical landscapes dispensing Christian cliches and nice advice. It’s time for a fresh look at the man this book describes as “a square peg in a society of round holes.” Whether you’re new to Jesus or just want to rediscover him with fresh eyes, this is the book for you. No dry theological treatise, it’s written in an engaging, sometimes even humorous, style. In short, readable chapters, you’ll get a tour of important background info and fascinating history that will bring to life the era in which Jesus lived. Then you’ll read about his birth, his adult ministry and teaching, and the crucial last week of his life on earth. You’ll catch a glimpse of the impact and excitement as news of Jesus spread around the world. And finally, you’ll be inspired to think about what Jesus means for us today.
