Book Pasture Management

Download or read book Pasture Management written by D Kemp and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at current knowledge on management of pastures and rangelands for sheep production, of problems, of practical solutions where possible, and of priority areas for research. The areas considered extend from the high rainfall perennial pastures of south-east Australia and New Zealand, through the annual pasture, cropping zones to the semi-arid rangelands. Pasture Management is the major reference on managing Australia's greatest natural resource: the resource which provides directly and indirectly a major part of Australia's export income.

Book Herbicide Resistance in Weeds and Crops

Download or read book Herbicide Resistance in Weeds and Crops written by J. C. Caseley and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1991 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing incidence of herbicide resistant weeds has stimulated research to understand its basis so that more rational treatment strategies can be devised. This collection of papers and posters, first presented at the 11th Long Ashton International Symposium, held in Bristol (England), September 1989, surveys the development of resistance, the incidence and biology of herbicide resistant weeds across the world and recent progress in understanding its biochemical basis. Also covered are recent developments in the production of herbicide resistant crops by conventional and complementary biotechnological approaches. Other aspects reviewed include commercial opportunities for genetically engineered crops, their field evaluation and legislation regarding their release. Book Herbicide Resistance in Plants

Download or read book Herbicide Resistance in Plants written by Stephen B. Powles and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The late 1980s saw an explosion in the amount and diversity of herbicide resistance, posing a threat to crop production in many countries. The rapid escalation in herbicide resistance worldwide and in the understanding of resistance at the population, biochemical, and molecular level is the focus of this timely book. Leading researchers from North America, Australia, and Western Europe present lucid reviews that consider the population dynamics and genetics, biochemistry, and agro-ecology of resistance. Resistance to various herbicides is discussed in detail, as well as the mechanisms responsible for cross resistance and multiple resistance. This reference is invaluable to those interested in evolution and the ability of species to overcome severe environmental stress.

Download or read book Thrips Biology and Management written by Bruce L. Parker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thrips (fhysanoptera) are very small insects, widespread throughout the world with a preponderance of tropical species, many temperate ones, and even a few living in arctic regions. Of the approximately 5,000 species so far identified, only a few hundred are crop pests, causing serious damage or transmitting diseases to growing crops and harvestable produce in most countries. Their fringed wings confer a natural ability to disperse widely, blown by the wind. Their minute size and cryptic behavior make them difficult to detect either in the field or in fresh vegetation transported during international trade of vegetables, fruit and ornamental flowers. Many species have now spread from their original natural habitats and hosts to favorable new environments where they often reproduce rapidly to develop intense damaging infestations that are costly to control. Over the past decade there have been several spectacular examples of this. The western flower thrips has expanded its range from the North American continent to Europe, Australia and South Africa. Thrips palmi has spread from its presumed origin, the island of Sumatra, to the coast of Florida, and threatens to extend its distribution throughout North and South America. Pear thrips, a known orchard pest of Europe and the western United States and Canada has recently become a major defoliator of hardwood trees in Vermont and the neighboring states. Local outbreaks of other species are also becoming problems in field and glasshouse crops as the effectiveness of insecticides against them decline.
