Book Dynamics of Violent Extremism in South Asia

Download or read book Dynamics of Violent Extremism in South Asia written by Shafi Md Mostofa and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-02 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the multifaceted dimensions of violent extremist groups in South Asia, attending especially to the relationships between the local and regional forces influencing their emergence and activities. In addition, research in the book shows how political, security-sensitive events and processes are framed, and the factors responsible for such framing. Similarly, it discusses prevalent discourses on anti-violent extremism policy and the on-the-ground militarized preventive/reactive interventions they guide, which are inspired by ideologies that increasingly reflect controversial understandings of the experiences of people within conditions of state fragility. In doing so, the book balances attention to local conditions that frame the rise and fall, or persistency, of incidences of violent extremism. The systems-based ecological framing of issues in the book is influenced by a concern for the broader questions of securitization, global governance, poverty, (under)development, and armed conflicts in South Asia.

Book Authentication of Hadith

Download or read book Authentication of Hadith written by Israr Ahmad Khan and published by IIIT. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today’s complex and volatile world the consequences of relying on fraudulent and counterfeit Hadith to legitimize extremist behavior, issue violent fatwas, and justify blatant abuse, particularly of women, is not only far too easy but in fact dangerous. Israr Khan addresses the sensitive topic of Hadith authentication, focusing on the criteria adopted by classical scholars to maintain that concentration on the continuity and accuracy of the chain of narrators, rather than the textual content of Hadith, has led to particular Hadith being included which either contradict other Hadith directly, project the Prophet (SAAS) in an uncharacteristic light, or do not reflect and/or conflict with the teachings of the Qur’an. The study traces in careful detail the historical development of the oral and written traditions, as well as the many targeted attempts at fabrication that took place, critiquing in methodical detail certain Hadith which have come to be widely accepted as “authentic.” The prominent collections we have today, were made possible by the development of the science of Hadith criticism, and Muslim scholars deserve deep appreciation for their painstaking work, as well as their invaluable contribution towards preserving the Hadith literature to the best of their ability. However, insists the author, the process is ongoing, and the closed door policy which currently surrounds Hadith authentication needs to be carefully reexamined.

This book was released on 2016-01-27 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ibn Rajab's essay Refutation of Those Who Do Not Follow the Four Schools advocates for the necessity of following Islamic scholarship in general, and legal scholarship in particular. A large portion of the essay covers the history of the development of Islamic scholarship and how the Muslim Community came to recognize scholars as the source for authoritative knowledge. Readers of the essay will notice that Ibn Rajab is engaging individuals who saw themselves as equal or superior to prior generations of scholars, free to cast aside scholarship and to reinterpret without any need for requisite skills and knowledge. Although written seven centuries ago, it might as well have written with today's reformers in mind.

Book Muslim Studies Vol 1

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ignác Goldziher
  • Publisher : SUNY Press
  • Release : 1967-01-01
  • ISBN : 9780873952347
  • Pages : 392 pages

Download or read book Muslim Studies Vol 1 written by Ignác Goldziher and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1967-01-01 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume of Goldziher's Muslim Studies, which ranks highly among the classics of the scholarly literature on Islam. Indeed, the two volumes, originally published in German in 1889-1890, can justly be counted among those which laid the foundations of the modern study of Islam as a religion and a civilization. The first study deals with the reaction of Islam to the ideals of Arab tribal society, to the attitudes of early Islam to the various nationalities and more especially the Persians, and culminates in the chapter on the Shu'ubiyya movement which represents the reaction of the newly converted peoples, and again more especially of the Persians, to the idea of Arab superiority. The second essay is the famous study on the development of the Hadith, the 'Traditions' ascribed to Muhammed, in which the Hadith is shown to reflect the various trends of early Islam, and in which its collection, and the subsequent literature devoted to it, is described. Goldziher's name is mainly associated with the critical study of the Hadith, of which this essay is the chief monument. The third essay is about the cult of saints, which, though contrary to the spirit and the letter of the earliest Islam, played such an important part in its subsequent development. These essays, with the author's marvelous richness of information, profound historical sense, and sympathetic insight into the motive forces of religion and civilization, are today as fresh as at the time of their original publication and are indispensable for all students of Islam. The editor, S. M. Stern, has brought the annotation up-to-date by completing, whenever necessary, the references, by making relevant additions and by indicating the most important later literature dealing with the subjects treated in the studies.

Book In Their Own Words

Download or read book In Their Own Words written by C. Christine Fair and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-12-15 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This path-breaking volume reveals a little-known aspect of how Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, a jihadist terrorist group, functions in Pakistan and beyond by translating and commenting upon a range of publications produced and disseminated by Dar-ul-Andlus, the publishing wing of LeT. Only a fraction of LeT's cadres ever see battle: most of them are despatched on nation-wide "prozelytising" (dawa) missions to convert Pakistanis to their particular interpretation of Islam, in support of which LeT has developed a sophisticated propagandist literature. This canon of Islamist texts is the most popular and potent weapon in LeT's arsenal, and its scrutiny affords insights into how and who the group recruits; LeT's justification for jihad; its vision of itself in global and regional politics; the enemies LeT identifies and the allies it cultivates; and how and where it conducts its operations. Particular attention is paid to the role that LeT assigns to women by examining those writings which heap extravagant praise upon the mothers of aspirant jihadis, who bless their operations and martyrdom. It is only by understanding LeT's domestic functions as set out in these texts that one can begin to appreciate why Pakistan so fiercely supports it, despite mounting international pressure to disband the group.

Book The Conflicts Between the Companions and the Position of the Pious Predecessors Regarding Them

Download or read book The Conflicts Between the Companions and the Position of the Pious Predecessors Regarding Them written by Irshad Al-Haqq Al-Athari and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is extremely regrettable that some people calling themselves Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah are, in some of their research, trying to degrade the Companions and, by mentioning their disputes and conflicts, they want to reduce their importance. Indeed they are trying continuously and actively to portray the efforts of the Companions as not solely for the sake of Islam but they claim that their efforts were based on personal benefit or liking and they were fighting like people desirous of the throne and kingship (may Allah protect us from such beliefs!)In contrast to this, all of Ahlus Sunnah are in agreement on the fact that the decision on the internal matters and disputes between the Companions is not a matter of history but a matter of creed, and despite these conflicts they are honourable, truthful and a people who desired guidance for the community. This is the position of all the pious predecessors. The scholars who authored books on creed gave in them a great emphasis on this and we will have the pleasure to present their detailed statements to the readers of this book.Excerpt from the Author's Introduction

Book Faith Based Violence and Deobandi Militancy in Pakistan

Download or read book Faith Based Violence and Deobandi Militancy in Pakistan written by Jawad Syed and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-09 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book documents and highlights the Deobandi dimension of extremism and its implications for faith-based violence and terrorism. This dimension of radical Islam remains largely ignored or misunderstood in mainstream media and academic scholarship. The book addresses this gap. It also covers the Deobandi diaspora in the West and other countries and the role of its radical elements in transnational incidents of violence and terrorism. The specific identification of the radical Deobandi and Salafi identity of militants is useful to isolate them from the majority of peaceful Sunni and Shia Muslims. Such identification provides direction to governmental resources so they focus on those outfits, mosques, madrassas, charities, media and social medial channels that are associated with these ideologies. This book comes along at a time when there is a dire need for alternative and contextual discourses on terrorism.

Book The Islamic Revolution of Khomeini Its Psychological Environment and Realities

Download or read book The Islamic Revolution of Khomeini Its Psychological Environment and Realities written by Safiurahman Mubarakpuri and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-01-23 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shaykh SafiuRahman Mubarakpuri is a well known scholar around the world due to his popular book Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum (The Sealed Nectar; indeed this book won the first prize in a competition organised by the Muslim World League (Rabitah Alam Islami) for the best Seerah book). The present book, The "Islamic" Revolution of Khomeini, its Psychological Environment and Realities by Shaykh SafiuRahman Mubarakpuri is acompilation of a series of his articles written in Urdu in the magazine "Mohadis". These articles written during the Iran-Iraq war exposed the creed of Ayatollah Khomeini and his expansionist agenda and plans to invade Sunni countries such as Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Forty years later, we see that Iraq is now a satellite country of Iran and under its control; Iran has committed atrocious crimes and killings of Sunnis in Yemen and Syria, implementing the agenda of Khomeini. In these articles, the author exposes the creed of the Shi'ites, their belief in the alteration of the Quran, their excommunication of the Companions, their hatred towards the Sunnis and other horrendous beliefs from their main sources. The Shaykh also exposes the creed of Ayatollah Khomeini and clarified that his beliefs echo the views of extreme Shi'ites and he is working on a clear strategy to take over Iraq and the Hijaz in preparation for the arrival of their presumed hidden Imam from the cave. Unfortunately many naive Sunni Muslims view Khomeini and Iran as Islamic symbols and we hope that this book will expose the reality of the Shi'ite school of thought so Sunnis remain alert and vigilant about them. Also we hope that Shi'ite laymen will, by reading this book, open their eyes to their illogical school of thought, which affirms divine powers to the "Twelve Imams", and we pray to Allah that these sincere Shi'ite laymen convert to Sunnism and orthodox Islam. Ameen!
