Book Four Steps to Your Authentic Career

Download or read book Four Steps to Your Authentic Career written by Kareem Kamal El Gazzar and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-01-02 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In Four Steps to Your Authentic Career: How to Discover Your True Career Path, Kareem Kamal El Gazzar makes a few interesting career- related observations that might be helpful to people entering the work force. He writes about converting passions into dreams and matching dreams to priorities. He talks about the need to become an 'authentic leader' who defines career success as 'a life and work that brings personal fulfillment and lasting relationships while also making a difference.' "Perhaps the most interesting portion of the book is the author's discussion of the three different attitudes people have toward their careers-he calls them 'the Road, the Horse, and the Cart.' The Road, writes El Gazzar, represents individuals who love a career filled with the exhilaration and excitement of action. The Horse, who races just for the pleasure of running, typifies someone who is happy simply doing their work. Individuals represented by the Cart are interested in 'what is being carried by one's work, ' such as values or character. El Gazzar makes the point that the Cart is likely to be the most useful attitude. 'Great careers have a point of view and are not just a job, ' he writes. 'You need to believe in something.'"

Book Finding Your Way to Your Authentic Career

Download or read book Finding Your Way to Your Authentic Career written by Adam Taggart and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vast majority of people are actively dissatisfied - or, at best, unfulfilled - by their current jobs. The reasons span a wide range. Some simply experience a bad fit with the career fate steered them into; others fear their expertise will have little relevance to in the future we're headed into. Whatever the cause, most workers express a desire to switch into an entirely different profession if given the opportunity to do so. If you're one of these folks, this book is for you. And its overall message is: Your purpose is out there waiting for you. There is indeed a methodical process you can use to find it, and to transition successfully over to it. There's little about this process that is novel or complex. It doesn't require you to spend a lot of money. It doesn't require you to go through any special training beforehand. It just asks you to have the commitment and courage to progress through all of its steps. If you do, the odds of you ending up with a clear understanding of your "purpose" - and in a job that's consistent with it - are extremely good. Probable, even. Your authentic work is out there waiting. Now it's time for you to go find it.

Book Searching for Authenticity

Download or read book Searching for Authenticity written by S. Gayle Baugh and published by IAP. This book was released on 2015-05-01 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 2 of the Research in Careers series focuses on the search for authenticity in one’s career. Although there has been growing interest in the topic within the popular press, relatively little academic research has been completed on authenticity and careers. Researchers are still refining the concept of authenticity and are just beginning to investigate how it influences the enactment of careers in today’s turbulent career landscape. This volume offers the first organized effort on the topic. This volume contains seven chapters which examine the search for authenticity derived from the Kaleidoscope Career Model (Mainiero & Sullivan, 2006). Chapters 1 and 2 present a review of the literature and an in-depth analysis of the construct of authenticity. Chapter 1 offers a new lens to view career authenticity based on two dimensions of self-awareness and adaptability. Chapter 2 uses two case studies to define how individuals are authentic in their career. Chapters 3 and 4 examine the authenticity of individuals in different career stages, with Chapter 3 examining recent college graduates and Chapter 4 examining mid to late stage careerists. Chapters 5, 6 and 7 focus on the interplay between social interactions and career authenticity. Chapter 5 offers a process model that traces how, through negotiation, a person’s identities shape and are shaped by relationships with others, leading to the enactment of an authentic career. Chapter 6 explores how individuals remain authentic in their career while negotiating the conflicting expectations of multiple interest groups. Chapter 7 examines the complex relationships among career authenticity, political behaviors, and strain.
