Book Complex Issues in Child Custody Evaluations

Download or read book Complex Issues in Child Custody Evaluations written by Philip M. Stahl and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1999-05-21 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This text is excellent and very timely. Philip Michael Stahl's second volume is the perfect supplement to his Conducting Child Custody Evaluations because it deals with specific issues of great concern to evaluators: parental alienation, allegations of sexual abuse, domestic violence, move-away situations, and high conflict families. The chapter dealing with child considerations is also very well done. His discussion of developmental considerations is clear and supported by the latest research in the field. I also liked his treatment of children's reaction to parental conflict, weighing the needs of the individual child with the needs of the sibling group, and giving the child a voice while protecting their privacy. I also appreciated his discussion of components of the evaluator's recommendation, use of psychological testing, Rosemary Vasquez's discussion of cultural issues, tackling the terror of testifying and ethical issues. Phil Stahl has written a very important text. It is timely, well written, and comprehensive. Nice work!!!" --Hugh McIsaac, Oregon Family Institute When performing a custody evaluation, how do professionals deal with the issue of domestic violence? What impact does one parent's moving away have on the evaluation? How should an evaluator handle high-conflict divorces? Over the past five to ten years, there has been a significant increase in the use of child custody evaluations by the courts. At the same time, the issues have become more complex and difficult. In this book, the author provides a theoretical and practical understanding of many of the factors that make custody evaluations complex. A key component is the integration of disparate research findings into a comprehensive resource that will enable the evaluator and the court to understand these complex issues. A second component is to provide a thorough understanding of the fact that divorce brings with it a set of complex needs, and evaluators and the courts must develop a paradigm for weighing these needs in a comprehensive manner. This book provides that paradigm.

Book Adversarialism and Consensus

Download or read book Adversarialism and Consensus written by Lisa C. Webley and published by Quid Pro Books. This book was released on 2013-11-13 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A penetrating study of the divergent messages that the Law Society of England and Wales versus the UK College of Family Mediators subtly transmit to their members about the professional approach to adopt in divorce and custody disputes. Lisa C. Webley uses a grounded theory method to analyse training, accreditation, best practice statements, and codes of conduct contrasting the two professions -- and their divergent self-identities. Do they promote healing and agreement among divorcing couples, and involvement of the children in decision-making, or adversarial litigation and paternalism? Are their styles traditionally feminine or masculine? From her dissertation Abstract: "The study examines the extent to which the training, accreditation and codes of conduct of family solicitors and family mediators privilege adversarial or consensus based approaches to divorce for their clients, in the light of statements made around the time of the passage of the Family Law Bill, which suggested a dichotomy in professional approach by these two professional groups. It considers further the nature of professional identity for each of the professional groupings, as constructed through the messages delivered by the professional bodies." Download or read book Ladies and Gents written by Olga Gershenson and published by Temple University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-15 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public toilets provide a unique opportunity for interrogating how conventional assumptions about the body, sexuality, privacy, and technology are formed in public spaces and inscribed through design across cultures. This collection of original essays from international scholars is the first to explore the cultural meanings, histories, and ideologies of public toilets as gendered spaces. Ladies and Gents consists of two sets of essays. The first, "Potty Politics: Toilets, Gender and Identity," establishes the importance of accessible, secure public toilets to the creation of inclusive cities, work, and learning environments. The second set of essays, "Toilet Art: Design and Cultural Representations," discusses public toilets as spaces of representation and representational spaces, with reference to architectural design, humor, film, theater, art, and popular culture. Compelling visual materials and original artwork are included throughout, depicting subjects as varied as female urinals, art installations sited in public restrooms, and the toilet in contemporary art. Taken together, these seventeen essays demonstrate that public toilets are often sites where gendered bodies compete for resources and recognition—and the stakes are high.
