Download or read book Coreference written by Maciej Ogrodniczuk and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-12-12 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Coreference’ presents specificities of reference, anaphora and coreference in Polish, establish identity-of-reference annotation model and present methodology used to create the corpus of Polish general nominal coreference. Various resolution approaches are presented, followed by their evaluation. By discussing the subsequent steps of building a coreference-related component of the natural language processing toolset and offering deeper explanation of the decisions taken, this volume might also serve as a reference book on state-of the art methods of carrying out coreference projects for new languages and a tutorial for NLP practitioners. Apart from serving as a description of the fi rst complete approach to annotation and resolution of direct nominal coreference for Polish, this book is a useful starting point for further work on other types of anaphora/coreference, semantic annotation, cognitive linguistics (related to the topic of near-identity, discussed in the book) etc. With extended tutorial-like sections on important subtopics, such as evaluation metrics for coreference resolution, it can prove useful to both researchers and practitioners interested in semantic description of Balto-Slavic languages and their processing, engineers developing language resources, tools and linguistic processing chains, as well as computational linguists in general.

Book The Language of Time A Reader

Download or read book The Language of Time A Reader written by Inderjeet Mani and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-05-27 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reader collects and introduces important work in linguistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, and computational linguistics on the use of linguistic devices in natural languages to situate events in time: whether they are past, present, or future; whether they are real or hypothetical; when an event might have occurred, and how long it could have lasted. In focussing on the treatment and retrieval of time-based information it seeks to lay the foundation for temporally-aware natural language computer processing systems, for example those that process documents on the worldwide web to answer questions or produce summaries. The development of such systems requires the application of technical knowledge from many different disciplines. The book is the first to bring these disciplines together, by means of classic and contemporary papers in four areas: tense, aspect, and event structure; temporal reasoning; the temporal structure of natural language discourse; and temporal annotation. Clear, self-contained editorial introductions to each area provide the necessary technical background for the non-specialist, explaining the underlying connections across disciplines. A wide range of students and professionals in academia and industry will value this book as an introduction and guide to a new and vital technology. The former include researchers, students, and teachers of natural language processing, linguistics, artificial intelligence, computational linguistics, computer science, information retrieval (including the growing speciality of question-answering), library sciences, human-computer interaction, and cognitive science. Those in industry include corporate managers and researchers, software product developers, and engineers in information-intensive companies, such as on-line database and web-service providers.

Book Syntax Based Collocation Extraction

Download or read book Syntax Based Collocation Extraction written by Violeta Seretan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Syntax-Based Collocation Extraction is the first book to offer a comprehensive, up-to-date review of the theoretical and applied work on word collocations. Backed by solid theoretical results, the computational experiments described based on data in four languages provide support for the book’s basic argument for using syntax-driven extraction as an alternative to the current cooccurrence-based extraction techniques to efficiently extract collocational data. The work described in Syntax-Based Collocation Extraction focuses on using linguistic tools for corpus-based identification of collocations. It takes advantage of recent advances in parsing to propose a novel deep syntactic analytic collocation extraction that has applicability to a range of important core tasks in Computational Linguistics. The book is useful for anyone interested in computational analysis of texts, collocation phenomena, and multi-word expressions in general.

Book Machine Learning Challenges

Download or read book Machine Learning Challenges written by Joaquin Quinonero-Candela and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-04-07 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the First PASCAL Machine Learning Challenges Workshop, MLCW 2005. 25 papers address three challenges: finding an assessment base on the uncertainty of predictions using classical statistics, Bayesian inference, and statistical learning theory; second, recognizing objects from a number of visual object classes in realistic scenes; third, recognizing textual entailment addresses semantic analysis of language to form a generic framework for applied semantic inference in text understanding.

Book Using Comparable Corpora for Under Resourced Areas of Machine Translation

Download or read book Using Comparable Corpora for Under Resourced Areas of Machine Translation written by Inguna Skadiņa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-06 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of how comparable corpora can be used to overcome the lack of parallel resources when building machine translation systems for under-resourced languages and domains. It presents a wealth of methods and open tools for building comparable corpora from the Web, evaluating comparability and extracting parallel data that can be used for the machine translation task. It is divided into several sections, each covering a specific task such as building, processing, and using comparable corpora, focusing particularly on under-resourced language pairs and domains. The book is intended for anyone interested in data-driven machine translation for under-resourced languages and domains, especially for developers of machine translation systems, computational linguists and language workers. It offers a valuable resource for specialists and students in natural language processing, machine translation, corpus linguistics and computer-assisted translation, and promotes the broader use of comparable corpora in natural language processing and computational linguistics.
