Book Digital Image Forensics

Download or read book Digital Image Forensics written by Husrev Taha Sencar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photographic imagery has come a long way from the pinhole cameras of the nineteenth century. Digital imagery, and its applications, develops in tandem with contemporary society’s sophisticated literacy of this subtle medium. This book examines the ways in which digital images have become ever more ubiquitous as legal and medical evidence, just as they have become our primary source of news and have replaced paper-based financial documentation. Crucially, the contributions also analyze the very profound problems which have arisen alongside the digital image, issues of veracity and progeny that demand systematic and detailed response: It looks real, but is it? What camera captured it? Has it been doctored or subtly altered? Attempting to provide answers to these slippery issues, the book covers how digital images are created, processed and stored before moving on to set out the latest techniques for forensically examining images, and finally addressing practical issues such as courtroom admissibility. In an environment where even novice users can alter digital media, this authoritative publication will do much so stabilize public trust in these real, yet vastly flexible, images of the world around us.

Book Insects of the Los Angeles Basin

Download or read book Insects of the Los Angeles Basin written by Charles Leonard Hogue and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Southern California is home not only to the country's second largest metropolitan center but to an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 different kinds of insects. Insects of the Los Angeles Basin provides an introduction to more than 400 of the most conspicuous or curious of these invertebrate animals and to about 70 spiders, mites and ticks, and related forms. With color photographs or drawings of all but a few species, the text describes the size and most striking physical characteristics of adults and immature stages and gives information on locomotion and behavior, offensive and defensive maneuvers, mating rituals, food preferences, nests and traps, and noises and scents. The specific habitat and general geographic range of each insect are included, as are lore and superstition regarding some notorious species." "The author, Dr. Charles L. Hogue, has answered the questions that he was most often asked in his position as Curator of Entomology at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. The result is a highly readable text with an emphasis on the effects that insects have on the people who encounter them."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Computational Modeling for Fluid Flow and Interfacial Transport

Download or read book Computational Modeling for Fluid Flow and Interfacial Transport written by Wei Shyy and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2014-06-10 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical applications and examples highlight this treatment of computational modeling for handling complex flowfields. A reference for researchers and graduate students of many different backgrounds, it also functions as a text for learning essential computation elements. Drawing upon his own research, the author addresses both macroscopic and microscopic features. He begins his three-part treatment with a survey of the basic concepts of finite difference schemes for solving parabolic, elliptic, and hyperbolic partial differential equations. The second part concerns issues related to computational modeling for fluid flow and transport phenomena. In addition to a focus on pressure-based methods, this section also discusses practical engineering applications. The third and final part explores the transport processes involving interfacial dynamics, particularly those influenced by phase change, gravity, and capillarity. Case studies, employing previously discussed methods, demonstrate the interplay between the fluid and thermal transport at macroscopic scales and their interaction with the interfacial transport.

Book Song of the Beauforts

Download or read book Song of the Beauforts written by Colin M. King and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book records the exploits of the airmen of the first Australian Beaufort squadron in action in World War II. Developed as a torpedo and general reconnaissance bomber, the Beaufort was the heaviest, most powerful and most complex aircraft ever built in this country. It entered service with the Royal Australian Air Force at a time when Japanese invasion seemed imminent. As the tide of the war in the South-West Pacific turned from one mostly fought over the ocean to a land-based operation, the original squadron was joined by additional Beaufort units to form the RAAF's No 71 Wing. Employing new methods of warfare, the Beaufort crews closely supported American and Australian ground forces. Using participants' own words to describe events, from the hazards of training to the fury of offensive operations, the author vividly brings to life the bravery of the aviators and the dedication and skill of the ground crews who operated Beauforts during the protracted campaign across the South-West Pacific.

Book Photo Forensics

  • Author : Hany Farid

  • Pages : 337 pages

Download or read book Photo Forensics written by Hany Farid and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2016-11-04 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comprehensive and detailed presentation of techniques for authenticating digital images. Photographs have been doctored since photography was invented. Dictators have erased people from photographs and from history. Politicians have manipulated photos for short-term political gain. Altering photographs in the predigital era required time-consuming darkroom work. Today, powerful and low-cost digital technology makes it relatively easy to alter digital images, and the resulting fakes are difficult to detect. The field of photo forensics—pioneered in Hany Farid's lab at Dartmouth College—restores some trust to photography. In this book, Farid describes techniques that can be used to authenticate photos. He provides the intuition and background as well as the mathematical and algorithmic details needed to understand, implement, and utilize a variety of photo forensic techniques. Farid traces the entire imaging pipeline. He begins with the physics and geometry of the interaction of light with the physical world, proceeds through the way light passes through a camera lens, the conversion of light to pixel values in the electronic sensor, the packaging of the pixel values into a digital image file, and the pixel-level artifacts introduced by photo-editing software. Modeling the path of light during image creation reveals physical, geometric, and statistical regularities that are disrupted during the creation of a fake. Various forensic techniques exploit these irregularities to detect traces of tampering. A chapter of case studies examines the authenticity of viral video and famously questionable photographs including “Golden Eagle Snatches Kid” and the Lee Harvey Oswald backyard photo.
