Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In our modern culture, we have everything from ATV's to MTV. God will never be outdone by modern technology. He has always had His DTV's: dreams, trances and visions which He uses to communicate His direction and deliverance for our lives. In this book, Dr. Derber explores the Biblical basis for each of these and explains their purpose, function and operation. We don't pursue them merely to experience them, but to better understand God's means of communication. Although God's eternal Word is more than enough for our lives, our supernatural God still chooses at times to speak to some of us in Dreams, Trances, and Visions.

Book The Supernatural and the Circuit Riders

Download or read book The Supernatural and the Circuit Riders written by Rimi Xhemajli and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Supernatural and the Circuit Riders, Rimi Xhemajli shows how a small but passionate movement grew and shook the religious world through astonishing signs and wonders. Beginning in the late eighteenth century, early American Methodist preachers, known as circuit riders, were appointed to evangelize the American frontier by presenting an experiential gospel: one that featured extraordinary phenomena that originated from God’s Spirit. In employing this evangelistic strategy of the gospel message fueled by supernatural displays, Methodism rapidly expanded. Despite beginning with only ten official circuit riders in the early 1770s, by the early 1830s, circuit riders had multiplied and caused Methodism to become the largest American denomination of its day. In investigating the significance of the supernatural in the circuit rider ministry, Xhemajli provides a new historical perspective through his eye-opening demonstration of the correlation between the supernatural and the explosive membership growth of early American Methodism, which fueled the Second Great Awakening. In doing so, he also prompts the consideration of the relevance and reproduction of such acts in the American church today.

Download or read book VISIONS AND DREAMS written by GODSWORD GODSWILL ONU and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-03-29 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the Holy Spirit is upon you, you will see visions or/and dream dreams - whether awake or sleeping. These visions, dreams, inspirations, boldness, empowerment, plans, purposes, and pursuits come from the Wisdom, Anointing, and Power of the Holy Spirit and the Workings of God. Visions bring power. Never allow your vision or dream to die if you want it to produce the required results. Visions and dreams can come in form of spiritual revelations and perceptions of things by seeing and hearing into the spiritual realm, by the Work of the Holy Spirit. They can also come as insights, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, ideas, plans, and perception, which are given people by the inward Inspiration of the Holy Spirit. You have to be sure that the vision, dream, plan, and idea that you have is not a human ambition or a satanic idea; because carnal, fleshly, satanic, and human ambitions are not Divine and God-given dreams, visions, and plans.

Book Christopher Dawson

Download or read book Christopher Dawson written by Joseph T. Stuart and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2022-01-14 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The English historian Christopher Dawson (1889-1970) was the first Catholic Studies professor at Harvard University and has been described as one of the foremost Catholic thinkers of modern times. His focus on culture prefigured its importance in Catholicism since Vatican Council II and in the rise of mainstream cultural history in the late twentieth century. How did Dawson think about culture and why does it matter? Joseph T. Stuart argues that through Dawson’s study of world cultures, he acquired a “cultural mind” by which he attempted to integrate knowledge according to four implicit rules: intellectual architecture, boundary thinking, intellectual asceticism, and intellectual bridges. Dawson’s multilayered approach to culture, instantiating John Henry Newman’s philosophical habit of mind, is key to his work and its relevance. By it, he responded to the cultural fragmentation he sensed after the Great War (1914-1918). Stuart supports these claims by demonstrating how Dawson formed his cultural mind practicing an interdisciplinary science of culture involving anthropology, sociology, history, and comparative religion. Stuart shows how Dawson applied his cultural thinking to problems in politics and education. This book establishes how Dawson’s simple definition of culture as a “common way of life” reconciles intellectualist and behavioral approaches to culture. In addition, Dawson’s cultural mind provides a synthesis helpful for recognizing the importance of Christian culture in education. It demonstrates principles which construct a more meaningful cultural history. Anyone interested in the idea of culture, the connection of religion to the social sciences, Catholic Studies, or Dawson studies will find this book an engaging and insightful intellectual history.

The purpose of this casebook is to bridge the gap between the current practice of counseling with the newest theories and research on working with diverse clientele. Each chapter is written by leading experts in the field of multicultural counseling and includes a case presentation with a detailed analysis of each session, a discussion of their theoretical orientation and how they have modified it to provide more culturally appropriate treatment, and an explanation of how their own dimensions of diversity and worldviews enhance or potentially impede treatment.
