Book Harmony Counterpoint Partimento

Download or read book Harmony Counterpoint Partimento written by Job IJzerman and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method of music theory education for undergraduate music students, Harmony, Counterpoint, Partimento is grounded in schema theory and partimento, and takes an integrated, hands-on approach to the teaching of harmony and counterpoint in today's classrooms and studios. A textbook in three parts, the package includes: - the hardcopy text, providing essential stylistic and technical information and repertoire discussion; - an online workbook with a full range of exercises, including partimenti by Fenaroli, Sala, and others, along with arrangements of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century compositions; - an online instructor's manual providing additional information and realizations of all exercises. Linking theoretical knowledge with aural perception and aesthetic experience, the exercises encompass various activities, such as singing, playing, improvising, and notation, which challenge and develop the student's harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic imagination. Covering the common-practice period (Corelli to Brahms), Harmony, Counterpoint, Partimento is a core component of practice-oriented training of musicianship skills, in conjunction with solfeggio, analysis, and modal or tonal counterpoint.

Book Court Odes

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Eccles
  • Publisher : A-R Editions, Inc.
  • Release :
  • ISBN : 198720896X
  • Pages : 181 pages

Download or read book Court Odes written by John Eccles and published by A-R Editions, Inc.. This book was released on with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Eccles is today mainly remembered for his theater works, but, as Master of the King’s/Queen’s Music, he was also the principal composer of ceremonial courts odes for William III and Anne, producing some twenty New Year odes and fourteen birthday odes during his thirty-five years in the post—twice as many as Henry Purcell’s output in the same genre. The fact that his odes are so little known today is partly due to how few survive: music is extant for only five odes, three of them incomplete. This volume presents the first complete modern edition of Eccles’s surviving court odes. There is much superb music awaiting discovery here: by the time he wrote his first odes, Eccles was already a seasoned theater composer, and his odes can be equally dramatic and virtuosic; at the same time, they demonstrate confident control both of the choral and orchestral forces at his disposal, and of the works’ large-scale architecture.

Book Songwriters of the American Musical Theatre

Download or read book Songwriters of the American Musical Theatre written by Nathan Hurwitz and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the favorites of Tin Pan Alley to today’s international blockbusters, the stylistic range required of a musical theatre performer is expansive. Musical theatre roles require the ability to adapt to a panoply of characters and vocal styles. By breaking down these styles and exploring the output of the great composers, Songwriters of the American Musical Theatre offers singers and performers an essential guide to the modern musical. Composers from Gilbert and Sullivan and Irving Berlin to Alain Boublil and Andrew Lloyd Webber are examined through a brief biography, a stylistic overview, and a comprehensive song list with notes on suitable voice types and further reading. This volume runs the gamut of modern musical theatre, from English light opera through the American Golden Age, up to the "mega musicals" of the late Twentieth Century, giving today’s students and performers an indispensable survey of their craft.

  • Release : 2013-02-11
  • ISBN : 022607630X
  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book Mahler written by Theodor W. Adorno and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2013-02-11 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theodor W. Adorno goes beyond conventional thematic analysis to gain a more complete understanding of Mahler's music through his character, his social and philosophical background, and his moment in musical history. Adorno examines the composer's works as a continuous and unified development that began with his childhood response to the marches and folk tunes of his native Bohemia. Since its appearance in 1960 in German, Mahler has established itself as a classic of musical interpretation. Now available in English, the work is presented here in a translation that captures the stylistic brilliance of the original. Theodor W. Adorno (1903-69), one of the foremost members of the Frankfurt school of critical theory, studied with Alban Berg in Vienna during the late twenties, and was later the director of the Institute of Social Research at the University of Frankfurt from 1956 until his death. His works include Aesthectic Theory, Introduction to the Sociology of Music, The Jargon of Authenticity, Prism, and Philosophy of Modern Music.
