Book Atom Probe Tomography

Download or read book Atom Probe Tomography written by Michael K. Miller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The microanalytical technique of atom probe tomography (APT) permits the spatial coordinates and elemental identities of the individual atoms within a small volume to be determined with near atomic resolution. Therefore, atom probe tomography provides a technique for acquiring atomic resolution three dimensional images of the solute distribution within the microstructures of materials. This monograph is designed to provide researchers and students the necessary information to plan and experimentally conduct an atom probe tomography experiment. The techniques required to visualize and to analyze the resulting three-dimensional data are also described. The monograph is organized into chapters each covering a specific aspect of the technique. The development of this powerful microanalytical technique from the origins offield ion microscopy in 1951, through the first three-dimensional atom probe prototype built in 1986 to today's commercial state-of-the-art three dimensional atom probe is documented in chapter 1. A general introduction to atom probe tomography is also presented in chapter 1. The various methods to fabricate suitable needle-shaped specimens are presented in chapter 2. The procedure to form field ion images of the needle-shaped specimen is described in chapter 3. In addition, the appearance of microstructural features and the information that may be estimated from field ion microscopy are summarized. A brief account of the theoretical basis for processes of field ionization and field evaporation is also included.

Book Field Emission Electronics

Download or read book Field Emission Electronics written by Nikolay Egorov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-01 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to field emission electronics, a promising field at the interface between “classic” vacuum electronics and nanotechnology. In addition to theoretical models, it includes detailed descriptions of experimental and research techniques and production technologies for different types of field emitters based on various construction principles. It particularly focuses on research into and production of field cathodes and electron guns using recently developed nanomaterials and carbon nanotubes. Further, it discusses the applications of field emission cathodes in new technologies such as light sources, flat screens, microwave and X-ray devices.

Book The International Field Emission Symposium 29th Held at Goeteborg Sweden on 9 13 August 1982

Download or read book The International Field Emission Symposium 29th Held at Goeteborg Sweden on 9 13 August 1982 written by T. E. Feuchtwang and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposium consisted of 14 sessions and two workshops. The topics indicated the maturing of field emission, the shifting emphasis from the physics of the emission process to the study of specific devices, and the use of the process for applications such as probing of surfaces, corrosion, and alloys. Relatively large blocks of time were devoted to discussing two topics currently exciting great interest in the field: liquid metal ion sources (three sessions and one workshop), and the pulsed laser atom probe (one session and one workshop). An annotated list of the papers presented at the symposium is given.

Book Electric Refractory Materials

Download or read book Electric Refractory Materials written by Yukinobu Kumashiro and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-08-24 with total page 769 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of electric refractory materials, this book covers developments of blue light-emitting diodes using GaN-based nitrides for laser and high-temperature and -frequency devices. "Electric Refractory Materials" introduces growth and evaluation standards of films and bulk crystals, with consideration of band structure, surface electronic structure, and lattice vibrations. It also covers heat capacity and thermal conductivity, irradiation properties, and selective surfaces. Focusing on diamond material, the book examines its synthesis and characterization as well as its electrical, optical, and conductive properties. The book also discusses the use of silicon carbide, boron compounds, and other material used in electronic and light-emitting devices.
