Book 25 Icons of Peace in the Qur an

Download or read book 25 Icons of Peace in the Qur an written by Mary Saad Assel and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prophets in the Qur'an condemn war, hatred, and disparity and advocate the belief in God's oneness and His call for peace among mankind. Assel successfully captures the minds of readers by giving them the opportunity to analyze and compare the stories of the prophets in the Qur'an with those of the prophets from the Old and New Testaments. She brings together the validated interpretations of both Sunni and Shia schools of thought in order to sustain objectivity and allow room for comparison and interpretation. Islam is an important force of solidarity and unity among mankind. It is the ultimate triumph to Muslims who perceive it to be the final test to a peace-seeking democratic society that denounces the dominant forces that are conspiring against it. This book is a valuable reference and text for students, professionals, scholars, and all who are interested in learning about Islam without having to read the entire Qur'an. It brings to the forefront the belief that Islam is truly a religion of peace. It was the death of her thirty-three year old son, Mazen, and her search for spiritual and emotional peace that inspired her to write this book.

Book The Crucifixion and the Qur an

Download or read book The Crucifixion and the Qur an written by Todd Lawson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book to examine the controversial Qur'anic phrase which divides Christianity and Islam. According to the majority of modern Muslims and Christians, the Qur'an denies the crucifixion of Jesus, and with it, one of the most sacred beliefs of Christianity. However, it is only mentioned in one verse - 'They did not kill him and they did not crucify him, rather, it only appeared so to them' - and contrary to popular belief, its translation has been the subject of fierce debate among Muslims for centuries. This innovative work is the first book devoted to the issue, delving deeply into largely ignored Arabic sources, which suggest that the origins of the conventional translation may lie within the Christian Church. Arranged along historical lines, and covering various Muslim schools of thought, from Sunni to Sufi, "The Crucifixion and the Qur'an" unravels the crucial dispute that separates the World's two principal faiths.

Book excerpt: In the course of his twenty-five years of exile, Badī’uzzaman suffered three terms of imprisonment together with varying numbers of his students, and the treatises he wrote during each of these he later included in the Risāla-i Nūr. In The Rays Collection are “fruits” from all three of his sojourns in the Madrasa-i Yûsufiya, as he called prison, recalling the unjust imprisonment of Joseph (UWP) and that prison is essentially a place of education and training. The Second Ray was the final fruit of Eskişehir Prison (1935-’36), while The Eleventh Ray has as its name Meyve Risalesi, The Fruits of Belief, and was written for his fellow prisoners in Denizli Prison (1943-’44). It consists of eleven Topics, which offer irrefutable proofs of the six main pillars of faith. The last two of the Topics, however, were written in Emirdağ, Badī’uzzaman’s place of compulsory resi dence after Emirdağ.

This volume offers valuable insights into the issue of minorities in various geographical and political settings, from the Uyghurs of China and the modern Christian movements of India to the Romas and Dervishes of early 20th century Iran, the Mandaeans of Mesopotamia, and the Muslims of Western Europe.

Book Opening the Qur an

  • Author : Walter H. Wagner
  • Publisher : University of Notre Dame Pess
  • Release : 2010-07-02
  • ISBN : 0268096546

Download or read book Opening the Qur an written by Walter H. Wagner and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2010-07-02 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Opening the Qur'an can be a bewildering experience to non-Muslim, English-speaking readers. Those who expect historical narratives, stories, or essays on morals are perplexed once they pass the beautiful first Surah, often shocked and then bogged down by Surah 2, and even offended by Surah 3’s strictures against nonbelievers. Walter H. Wagner “opens” the Qur’an by offering a comprehensive and extraordinarily readable, step-by-step introduction to the text, making it accessible to students, teachers, clergy, and general readers interested in Islam and Islam’s holy Book. Wagner first places the prophet Muhammad, the Qur'an, and the early Muslim community in their historical, geographical, and theological contexts. This background is a basis for interpreting the Qur'an and understanding its role in later Muslim developments as well as for relationships between Muslims, Jews, and Christians. He then looks in detail at specific passages, moving from cherished devotional texts to increasingly difficult and provocative subjects. The selected bibliography serves as a resource for further reading and study. Woven into the discussion are references to Islamic beliefs and practices. Wagner shows great sensitivity toward the risks and opportunities for non-Muslims who attempt to interpret the Qur'an, and sympathy in the long struggle to build bridges of mutual trust and honest appreciation between Muslims and non-Muslims.

Book War and Peace in Islam

  • Author : Ghazi bin Muhammad (Prince of Jordan.)
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2013
  • ISBN : 9781903682838
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book War and Peace in Islam written by Ghazi bin Muhammad (Prince of Jordan.) and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a number of Islamic religious authorities and Muslim scholars, this work presents the views and teachings of mainstream Sunni and Shi’i Islam on the subject of jihad. It authoritatively presents jihad as it is understood by the majority of the world’s 1.7 billion Muslims in the world today, and supports this understanding with extensive detail and scholarship. No word in English evokes more fear and misunderstanding than "jihad." To date the books that have appeared on the subject in English by Western scholars have been either openly partisan and polemical or subtly traumatized by so many acts and images of terrorism in the name of jihad and by the historical memory of nearly 1,400 years of confrontation between Islam and Christianity. Though jihad is the central concern of War and Peace in Islam: The Uses and Abuses of Jihad, the range of the essays is not confined exclusively to the study of jihad. The work is divided into three parts: War and Its Practice, Peace and Its Practice, and Beyond Peace: The Practice of Forbearance, Mercy, Compassion and Love. The book aims to reveal the real meaning of jihad and to rectify many of the misunderstandings that surround both it and Islam’s relation with the “Other.”

Book ISIS

  • Author : Michael Weiss
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2015-01-29
  • ISBN : 1941393713
  • Pages : 271 pages

Download or read book ISIS written by Michael Weiss and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revelatory look inside the world's most dangerous terrorist group. Initially dismissed by US President Barack Obama, along with other fledgling terrorist groups, as a “jayvee squad” compared to al-Qaeda, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has shocked the world by conquering massive territories in both countries and promising to create a vast new Muslim caliphate that observes the strict dictates of Sharia law. In ISIS: Inside the Army of Terror, American journalist Michael Weiss and Syrian analyst Hassan Hassan explain how these violent extremists evolved from a nearly defeated Iraqi insurgent group into a jihadi army of international volunteers who behead Western hostages in slickly produced videos and have conquered territory equal to the size of Great Britain. Beginning with the early days of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the founder of ISIS’s first incarnation as “al-Qaeda in Iraq,” Weiss and Hassan explain who the key players are—from their elusive leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to the former Saddam Baathists in their ranks—where they come from, how the movement has attracted both local and global support, and where their financing comes from. Political and military maneuvering by the United States, Iraq, Iran, and Syria have all fueled ISIS’s astonishing and explosive expansion. Drawing on original interviews with former US military officials and current ISIS fighters, the authors also reveal the internecine struggles within the movement itself, as well as ISIS’s bloody hatred of Shiite Muslims, which is generating another sectarian war in the region. Just like the one the US thought it had stopped in 2011 in Iraq. Past is prologue and America’s legacy in the Middle East is sowing a new generation of terror.

Download or read book Muhammad in the Digital Age written by Ruqayya Yasmine Khan and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2015-11-15 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early twenty-first century has experienced an unrivaled dissemination of information and misinformation about Islam, its prophet Muhammad, and its followers, largely facilitated by the fact that the tragedy of 9/11 roughly coincided with the advent of the digital age. In the first collection of its kind, Ruqayya Khan has compiled essays that treat Muhammad and the core elements of Islam as focal points in an exploration of how the digital era—including social media and other expressions—have both had an effect on and been affected by Islam. Scholars from a variety of fields deal with topics such as the 2005 cartoon controversy in Denmark and the infamous 2012 movie trailer “Innocence of Muslims” that some believe sparked the attacks on the US consulate in Benghazi, as well as how the digitization of ancient texts have allowed the origins of Islam to be studied in new ways. Other essays examine how Muhammad’s wives have been represented in various online sources, including a web comic; the contrasting depictions of Muhammad as both a warrior and peacemaker; and how the widespread distribution of “the look” of Islamic terrorists has led to attacks on Sikhs, whose only point of resemblance to them may be a full beard. These findings illuminate the role of the Internet in forms of representation, advocacy, and engagement concerning Islam and Muslims in our world today.
