Book excerpt: In many Asian traditions, 21 days is considered a spiritually significant time period. Ancient sacred texts often describe the transformation of spiritual figures through 21 days of ascetic discipline. Some experts tell us that it takes at least 21 days to create a new habit because of the time required for new neural connections to form in the brain. This inherent brain plasticity is the key to our ability to change ourselves and our lives. Is there something about yourself that you feel less than satisfied with? This journal will help you go through your own transformation, one day at a time. Journaling helps you clarify your thoughts and feelings, and formulate a new understanding of yourself. The 21-Day Journal guides you in this self-development process, helping you set a goal and a course of action. It gives you the space to record not only your thoughts and emotions, but your plans and evaluations of your progress. Learn how to closely watch yourself and learn from your own experience through the lens this journal provides. Beautifully designed with uplifting photographs from nature, the 21-Day Journal includes an introduction and a foundation for beginning your journey from New York Times bestselling author and self-development mentor Ilchi Lee. His encouraging quotes are scattered throughout, and there are extra blank pages in the back to provide plenty of space for recording your own inspiration.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is more about David's personal life than anyone in the Bible - he is the most real, passionate, bawdy man in all of scripture. Outside of Jesus, there is no one in all of scripture with more information and insight into a person's heart intentions and motivations than David. This is no polished view of a man, but a ragged-edged reality in which we see humanness and manliness being formed with much coarseness - a spiritual earthiness of a man who is full of emotion and honesty.

Book 21 Months 24 Days

Download or read book 21 Months 24 Days written by Richard Udden and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late sixties, draft boards were gathering young men for the Vietnam War. High school kids who were not bound for college had to enlist or wait for a draft notice. The burden fell on the children of blue-collar families because college was not an easy option for them. Instead of starting a career, they had their lives put on hold to fight a war. The author was one of those kids. Threatened by the draft, he enlisted in the Army. He expected an easy two years working in a trade. Instead, he was assigned to the infantry and sent to Vietnam. There in the jungle, alongside other young kids, he hunted and fought the Vietcong. When his company was sent to Cambodia to disrupt enemy supply lines, he was wounded by shrapnel from a booby trap. All of this happened before his twenty-first birthday. He delivers his story as if you were sitting with him in a bar and hearing it firsthand over a beer. You will know what it felt like to pass through basic training and advanced infantry training. You will know what it felt like to live and work in the jungle. You will experience the day-to-day grind of a job that includes combat assaults, jungle patrols, firefights and pulling guard on a firebase. He also touches on the lighter moments such as smoking pot for the first time and R & R's. Through words and pictures, you will experience every aspect of his journey to Vietnam and back again. I've read a lot of war stories. At times, you wonder just how real some of the events are. Well, honesty comes through in this book. There are no fish stories here. Those he served with will attest to it.

Book Journey into America

    Book Details:
  • Author : Akbar Ahmed
  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield
  • Release : 2010-06-01
  • ISBN : 0815704402
  • Pages : 546 pages

Download or read book Journey into America written by Akbar Ahmed and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2010-06-01 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly seven million Muslims live in the United States today, and their relations with non-Muslims are strained. Many Americans associate Islam with figures such as Osama bin Laden, and they worry about “homegrown terrorists.” To shed light on this increasingly important religious group and counter mutual distrust, renowned scholar Akbar Ahmed conducted the most comprehensive study to date of the American Muslim community. Journey into America explores and documents how Muslims are fitting into U.S. society, placing their experience within the larger context of American identity. This eye-opening book also offers a fresh and insightful perspective on American history and society. Following up on his critically acclaimed Journey into Islam: The Crisis of Globalization (Brookings, 2007), Ahmed and his team of young researchers traveled for a year through more than seventyfive cities across the United States—from New York City to Salt Lake City; from Las Vegas to Miami; from the large Muslim enclave in Dearborn, Michigan, to small, predominantly white towns like Arab, Alabama. They visited homes, schools, and over one hundred mosques to discover what Muslims are thinking and how they are living every day in America. In this unprecedented exploration of American Muslim communities, Ahmed asked challenging questions: Can we expect an increase in homegrown terrorism? How do American Muslims ofArab descent differ from those of other origins (for example, Somalia or South Asia)? Why are so many white women converting to Islam? How can a Muslim become accepted fully as an “American,” and what does that mean? He also delves into the potentially sticky area of relations with other religions. For example, is there truly a deep divide between Muslims and Jews in America? And how well do Muslims get along with other religious groups, such as Mormons in Utah? Journey into America is equal parts anthropological research, listening tour, and travelogue. Whereas Ahmed’s previous book took the reader into homes, schools, and mosques in the Muslim world, his new quest takes us into the heart of America and its Muslim communities. It is absolutely essential reading for anyone trying to make sense of America today.
