Book Putting AI in the Critical Loop

Download or read book Putting AI in the Critical Loop written by Prithviraj Dasgupta and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a high level of autonomy for a human-machine team requires assumptions that address behavior and mutual trust. The performance of a human-machine team is maximized when the partnership provides mutual benefits that satisfy design rationales, balance of control, and the nature of autonomy. The distinctively different characteristics and features of humans and machines are likely why they have the potential to work well together, overcoming each other's weaknesses through cooperation, synergy, and interdependence which forms a “collective intelligence. Trust is bidirectional and two-sided; humans need to trust AI technology, but future AI technology may also need to trust humans.Putting AI in the Critical Loop: Assured Trust and Autonomy in Human-Machine Teams focuses on human-machine trust and “assured performance and operation in order to realize the potential of autonomy. This book aims to take on the primary challenges of bidirectional trust and performance of autonomous systems, providing readers with a review of the latest literature, the science of autonomy, and a clear path towards the autonomy of human-machine teams and systems. Throughout this book, the intersecting themes of collective intelligence, bidirectional trust, and continual assurance form the challenging and extraordinarily interesting themes which will help lay the groundwork for the audience to not only bridge the knowledge gaps, but also to advance this science to develop better solutions. Assesses the latest research advances, engineering challenges, and the theoretical gaps surrounding the question of autonomy Reviews the challenges of autonomy (e.g., trust, ethics, legalities, etc.), including gaps in the knowledge of the science Offers a path forward to solutions Investigates the value of trust by humans of HMTs, as well as the bidirectionality of trust, understanding how machines learn to trust their human teammates

Book Quality of Service Aware Design and Management of Embedded Mixed Criticality Systems

Download or read book Quality of Service Aware Design and Management of Embedded Mixed Criticality Systems written by Behnaz Ranjbar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-28 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the challenges associated with efficient Mixed-Criticality (MC) system design. We focus on application analysis through execution time analysis and task scheduling analysis in order to execute more low-criticality tasks in the system, i.e., improving the Quality-of-Service (QoS), while guaranteeing the correct execution of high-criticality tasks. Further, this book addresses the challenge of enhancing QoS using parallelism in multi-processor hardware platforms.

  • ISBN : 3031269365
  • Pages : 184 pages

Download or read book Social Edge Computing written by Dong Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-22 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) leads to the emergence of edge computing systems that push the training and deployment of AI models to the edge of networks for reduced bandwidth cost, improved responsiveness, and better privacy protection, allowing for the ubiquitous AI that can happen anywhere and anytime. Motivated by the above trend, this book introduces a new computing paradigm, the Social Edge Computing (SEC), that empowers human-centric edge intelligent applications by revolutionizing the computing, intelligence, and the training of the AI models at the edge. The SEC paradigm introduces a set of critical human-centric challenges such as the rational nature of edge device owners, pronounced heterogeneity of the edge devices, real-time AI at the edge, human and AI interaction, and the privacy of the edge users. The book addresses these challenges by presenting a series of principled models and systems that enable the confluence of the computing capabilities of devices and the domain knowledge of the people, while explicitly addressing the unique concerns and constraints from humans. Compared to existing books in the field of edge computing, the vision of this book is unique: we focus on the social edge computing (SEC), an emerging paradigm at the intersection of edge computing, AI, and social computing. This book discusses the unique vision, challenges and applications in SEC. To our knowledge, keeping humans in the loop of edge intelligence has not been systematically reviewed and studied in an existing book. The SEC vision generalizes the current machine-to-machine interactions in edge computing (e.g., mobile edge computing literature), and machine-to-AI interactions (e.g., edge intelligence literature) into a holistic human-machine-AI ecosystem.
