Book Parasitic Substrate Coupling in High Voltage Integrated Circuits

Download or read book Parasitic Substrate Coupling in High Voltage Integrated Circuits written by Pietro Buccella and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces a new approach to model and predict substrate parasitic failures in integrated circuits with standard circuit design tools. The injection of majority and minority carriers in the substrate is a recurring problem in smart power ICs containing high voltage, high current switching devices besides sensitive control, protection and signal processing circuits. The injection of parasitic charges leads to the activation of substrate bipolar transistors. This book explores how these events can be evaluated for a wide range of circuit topologies. To this purpose, new generalized devices implemented in Verilog-A are used to model the substrate with standard circuit simulators. This approach was able to predict for the first time the activation of a latch-up in real circuits through post-layout SPICE simulation analysis. Discusses substrate modeling and circuit-level simulation of parasitic bipolar device coupling effects in integrated circuits; Includes circuit back-annotation of the parasitic lateral n-p-n and vertical p-n-p bipolar transistors in the substrate; Uses Spice for simulation and characterization of parasitic bipolar transistors, latch-up of the parasitic p-n-p-n structure, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection devices; Offers design guidelines to reduce couplings by adding specific protections.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains for readers how 3D chip stacks promise to increase the level of on-chip integration, and to design new heterogeneous semiconductor devices that combine chips of different integration technologies (incl. sensors) in a single package of the smallest possible size. The authors focus on heterogeneous 3D integration, addressing some of the most important challenges in this emerging technology, including contactless, optics-based, and carbon-nanotube-based 3D integration, as well as signal-integrity and thermal management issues in copper-based 3D integration. Coverage also includes the 3D heterogeneous integration of power sources, photonic devices, and non-volatile memories based on new materials systems.

Book Thermal and Electro thermal System Simulation 2020

Download or read book Thermal and Electro thermal System Simulation 2020 written by Márta Rencz and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, edited by Prof. Marta Rencz and Prof Andras Poppe, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and by Prof. Lorenzo Codecasa, Politecnico di Milano, collects fourteen papers carefully selected for the “thermal and electro-thermal system simulation” Special Issue of Energies. These contributions present the latest results in a currently very “hot” topic in electronics: the thermal and electro-thermal simulation of electronic components and systems. Several papers here proposed have turned out to be extended versions of papers presented at THERMINIC 2019, which was one of the 2019 stages of choice for presenting outstanding contributions on thermal and electro-thermal simulation of electronic systems. The papers proposed to the thermal community in this book deal with modeling and simulation of state-of-the-art applications which are highly critical from the thermal point of view, and around which there is great research activity in both industry and academia. In particular, contributions are proposed on the multi-physics simulation of families of electronic packages, multi-physics advanced modeling in power electronics, multiphysics modeling and simulation of LEDs, batteries and other micro and nano-structures.

Book Wideband CMOS Receivers

Download or read book Wideband CMOS Receivers written by Miguel D. Fernandes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates how to design a wideband receiver operating in current mode, in which the noise and non-linearity are reduced, implemented in a low cost single chip, using standard CMOS technology. The authors present a solution to remove the transimpedance amplifier (TIA) block and connect directly the mixer’s output to a passive second-order continuous-time Σ∆ analog to digital converter (ADC), which operates in current-mode. These techniques enable the reduction of area, power consumption, and cost in modern CMOS receivers.
