Book excerpt: WHAT WILL 2013 BRING? Many believe the world will end December 21, 2012. Is it true? When Mayan elders are asked about the end of their ancient calendar on that date, they simply smile and say, "It is the return of more light." In 2013 Mayan Sunrise, Sri Ram Kaa and Kira Raa take you from the peaks of Machu Pichu and the headwaters of the Ganges to the highlands of Guatemala and deep into the heart of Mayan culture. They pass along the wisdom of the high priests of the Maya, who are aware this is a hinge moment. In a time when the ecosystem is damaged beyond repair and with the world in crisis, the Maya know that a disruptive transition is near. They look to the beginning of a new era when humanity will return to a state of exquisite balance and harmony. As global chaos escalates toward the supposed end date, you have a choice--fear or awakening. Now is your opportunity: •Are you aware of the future? •How and where is your path ahead? •Are you open to trusting your inner wisdom? •Are you ready for your Mayan sunrise?

Download or read book Cultural Code written by Phillip Penix-Tadsen and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2016-02-19 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How culture uses games and how games use culture: an examination of Latin America's gaming practices and the representation of the region's cultures in games. Video games are becoming an ever more ubiquitous element of daily life, played by millions on devices that range from smart phones to desktop computers. An examination of this phenomenon reveals that video games are increasingly being converted into cultural currency. For video game designers, culture is a resource that can be incorporated into games; for players, local gaming practices and specific social contexts can affect their playing experiences. In Cultural Code, Phillip Penix-Tadsen shows how culture uses games and how games use culture, looking at examples related to Latin America. Both static code and subjective play have been shown to contribute to the meaning of games; Penix-Tadsen introduces culture as a third level of creating meaning. Penix-Tadsen focuses first on how culture uses games, looking at the diverse practices of play in Latin America, the ideological and intellectual uses of games, and the creative and economic possibilities opened up by video games in Latin America—the evolution of regional game design and development. Examining how games use culture, Penix-Tadsen discusses in-game cultural representations of Latin America in a range of popular titles (pointing out, for example, appearances of Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue in games from Call of Duty to the tourism-promoting Brasil Quest). He analyzes this through semiotics, the signifying systems of video games and the specific signifiers of Latin American culture; space, how culture is incorporated into different types of game environments; and simulation, the ways that cultural meaning is conveyed procedurally and algorithmically through gameplay mechanics.

Can they assist us on our spiritual journey? How? Although much has been written about them, many questions still linger. This book addresses many of these lingering questions on practical, subtle-energy, and spiritual levels. Book The Sky in Mayan Literature

Download or read book The Sky in Mayan Literature written by Anthony F. Aveni and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1992 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The celestial sphere is the place where ancient Mayan rulers derived their source of power and yet, it is the very same realm to which the modern peasant still prays for rain. Including contributions from anthropologists, a mathematician, an art historian, and a linguist, the interdisciplinary approach in this innovative book portrays skywatching and celestial worship as one aspect of Mayan cultural behavior that possesses an evolutionary history. What a Mayan shaman sees and interprets in the visual imagery of the sky today is also revealed in the four ancient sacred books that survive. The contributors find a strong correlation between real-time and the heavily-veiled information about the heavens in pre-contact days.

Book Return of the Children of Light

Download or read book Return of the Children of Light written by Judith Bluestone Polich and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2001-08-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A personal exploration of the conjunction between ancient Mesoamerican prophesy and New Age higher consciousness. • Selected by the Independent Publisher's Book Awards as one of the top two New Age books of the year. • Explores ancient prophesies and their relevance in the contemporary world. The Incan and Mayan cultures saw themselves as “children of light”--descended from celestial realms--and their prophecies foretell a time of great spiritual awakening. They prophesied a time when the gateways to higher consciousness would open once again. That time is now. Award-winning author Judith Bluestone Polich draws on her extensive research in quantum physics, archeoastronomy, holography, cosmology, and pioneering studies of human consciousness to show how science and contemporary thought are consistent with this ancient knowledge. As the ancients predicted, the human god-seed is beginning to awaken, and modern civilization is finally beginning to perceive human potential in ways that the ancient cultures accepted as truth. Polich introduces techniques for awakening our own human potential through dreaming, meditations, and the power of sacred sites.
