Book United States Army Weapon Systems 2010

Download or read book United States Army Weapon Systems 2010 written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook describes how the Army is accomplishing its mission. It is designed to promote greater understanding of major acquisition programs. It describes what each is designed to achieve; summarizes program schedules; and offers information regarding contractors, teaming arrangements, technical maturity, international sales, and critical interdependencies with other systems. It augments several key publications which characterize the strategic context. As you review this guide and these documents, you will see firsthand the strategic relevance, complexity, innovation, and interconnectedness of the products and systems. By providing our Warfighters with the most technologically advanced and sustainable platforms and systems, as you will see in this guide, we are underwriting their ability to meet current and emerging threats with confidence. We will continue to demonstrate the leadership, managerial excellence, innovation, and commitment to continuous improvement needed to meet this challenge. In this year's edition we have added an additional heading to the narrative spreads, "System Interdependencies." The goal of this addition is to outline which other weapon systems or components (if any)the main system works in concert with or relies upon for its operation. Also, the names of two of the acquisition phases have changed, from "Concept & Technology Development" to "Technology Development," and from "Systems Development & Demonstration" to "Engineering & Manufacturing Development," reflecting upgrades in the systems development on the acquisition end.

Book Principles of Naval Weapon Systems

Download or read book Principles of Naval Weapon Systems written by Craig M. Payne and published by US Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is intended to serve as an introduction to the underlying science and engineering of weapons used in the naval service. The philosophy used in the material selected for this text is that individual weapons come and go, but the principles of their operation largely remain the same. Some subjects are covered in greater detail than needed for an introductory course to allow this text to serve as a basic reference to take into professional life. The text was written to be inclusive of all college majors; as such a conscious effort was made when possible to apply algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and avoid calculus. Therefore, many of the equations derived are 1st order, and provide approximations that are sufficient to illustrate the relative performance parameters of variables used in weapon system design. These same theories and principles can then be applied to actual sensors and weapons using operational parameters and specifications determined from technical manuals and warfare publications. Material has been drawn from pervious texts of the same title that have explained the principles for the last 40 years. Much of the work can be traced to the work completed by the Bureau of Naval Weapons in the 1960's. It was updated and expanded in the 1980's version and incorporated in this text. In some cases, principles of systems that the U.S. Navy no longer uses are described in a belief that sometimes it is good to know where you have been to know where you are going. In addition, many countries and organizations still employ some of these lower technology systems. Therefore, it is necessary to understand their basic capabilities. With advent of new technologies and methods, this text will require periodic updating.

Book People s Liberation Army Navy

Download or read book People s Liberation Army Navy written by James C Bussert and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2011-07-15 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are a few books on all naval weapon systems for all nations in the world. These are limited in many Chinese technologies, with not a single entry on several important areas such as communications, weapon integration/ control and sonars. There are other excellent books on PLAN organization, high level assumed goals and political structure, but little on actual ship combat system details except possibly in limited areas. This book traces, in detail, the long path from a coastal defense force of obsolete ships and crude systems to the current complex unique new construction coastal missile catamarans and AEGIS-like large DDGs with indigenous Vertical launch weapons and long range cruise missiles. In war gaming or operational tactics, many tables with frequencies, loadouts and ranges are useful, especially if unclassified. With this book, all of these platforms and systems are in one source. The book is divided into sections on frigates, destroyers, missile destroyers, patrol craft, naval aircraft and helicopters, nuclear and diesel submarines. Antisubmarine, anti-air, antisurface and mine warfare, amphibs and auxuiliaries are in their own areas. Even state-owned paramilitary vessels are covered. Hull, machinery and electrical and deperming are also addressed. This book prompts the reader to discern PLAN areas of weakness as well as threats based upon the sum of tables, rather than merely accept an author’s conclusions. The enigmatic PLAN aircraft carrier preparations in pilots, shipyard and battle group basing will be noted. The only fact pending is when the keels will be laid in Shanghai and the actual tonnage.

Book excerpt: July 2019 Printed in BLACK AND WHITE The Army's Weapon Systems Handbook was updated in July 2019, but is still titled "Weapon Systems Handbook 2018." We are printing this in black and white to keep the price low. It presents many of the acquisition programs currently fielded or in development. The U.S. Army Acquisition Corps, with its 36,000 professionals, bears a unique responsibility for the oversight and systems management of the Army's acquisition lifecycle. With responsibility for hundreds of acquisition programs, civilian and military professionals collectively oversee research, development and acquisition activities totaling more than $20 billion in Fiscal Year 2016 alone. Why buy a book you can download for free? We print this so you don't have to. We at 4th Watch Publishing are former government employees, so we know how government employees actually use the standards. When a new standard is released, somebody has to print it, punch holes and put it in a 3-ring binder. While this is not a big deal for a 5 or 10-page document, many DoD documents are over 400 pages and printing a large document is a time- consuming effort. So, a person that's paid $25 an hour is spending hours simply printing out the tools needed to do the job. That's time that could be better spent doing mission. We publish these documents so you can focus on what you are there for. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together the law of armed conflict governing the use of weapons into a single volume, the fully updated Second Edition of Weapons and the Law of Armed Conflict interprets these rules and discusses the factors influencing future developments in weapons law. After relating the historical evolution of weapons law, the book discusses the important customary principles that are the foundation of the subject, and provides a condensed account of the law that exists on the use of weapons. The treaties and customary rules applying to particular categories of weapon are thereafter listed and explained article by article and rule by rule in a series of chapters. Having stated the law as it is, the book then explores the way in which this dynamic field of international law develops in the light of various influences. The legal review of weapons is discussed, both from the perspective of how such reviews should be undertaken and how such a system should be established. Having stated the law as it is, the book then investigates the way in which this dynamic field of international law develops in the light of various influences. In the final chapter, the prospects for future rule change are considered. This Second Edition includes a discussion of new treaty law on expanding bullets, the arms trade, and norms in relation to biological and chemical weapons. It also analyses the International Manuals on air and missile warfare law and on cyber warfare law, the challenges posed by 'lethal autonomous weapon systems', and developments in the field of information and telecommunications otherwise known as cyber activities.

Book DOD Weapon Systems Missed Trade off Opportunities During Requirements Reviews

Download or read book DOD Weapon Systems Missed Trade off Opportunities During Requirements Reviews written by Michael J. Sullivan and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07-08 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) considered trade-offs made by the military services before validating requirements for four of the seven proposed programs it reviewed in FY 2010. According to Dept. of Defense (DOD) officials, the most significant trade-offs are made by the military services during the analysis of alternatives (AOA), which occurs between the JROC's review of an Initial Capabilities Document (ICD) and its review of a Capability Development Document (CDD). The Weapon Systems Acquisition Reform Act of 2009 (WSARA) directed JROC to ensure trade-offsamong cost, schedule, and performance objectives are considered as part of its requirements review process. This report addresses (1) the extent to which the JROC has considered trade-offs within programs, (2) the quality of resource estimates presented to the JROC, and (3) the extent to which the JROC is prioritizing requirements and capability gaps. Includes recommendations. Figures. This is a print on demand report.
