Book excerpt: Excerpt from 200th Anniversary of the Building of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Edenton, North Carolina At the time of the establishment of the Colony of Carolina under the Lords Proprietors in 1663, it was contemplated and provided for in the charter that the Church of England should be made the established church of the province. Although the Lords Proprietors were committed to the policy of the established church, they did not attempt to erect the establishment until about 40 years after they received the charter. During this period the Quakers had been quite active in Carolina and William Edmunson and George Fox both came to the province on missionary tours. In 1694 the Quaker influence reached its climax under Governor John Archdale, a convert of George Fox. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from St. Philip's Episcopal Church: A History; Brevard, North Carolina Now I think we had better take this Opportunity and sell the building and devote the proceeds to fencing in the land and protecting it for a cemetery as was planned long ago. Please send me the proper authority to sell and we can then determine what is best to be done with the proceeds in case the Trustees of the Jurisdiction (missionary Jurisdiction of Asheville) do not approve of fencing the land. I would rather not have this matter discussed here as some of the old ladies in the Parish are fond of interfering and in matters of business, I think the least said the better. As the Treasurer of the Parish I presume I am the proper one to attend to these matters. Mr. Rooney has not yet grasped the situation here so I have not troubled him with the details as here set out. Have merely told him that I was going to dispose of it if possible. As I understand, the building was never consecrated as it was intended for uses as a school, as well as church building. [the building was consecrated April 28, The price will be determined by a competent and honest carpenter and builder. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Saint Paul's Chestnut Hill, Salisbury, North Carolina: An Historical Sketch Father Murdoch came to St. Luke's as a young and spirited missionary, prepared to improve the congregation which had little money and was only slowly beginning to recover from the difficult Reconstruction Period. He surely brought new life and progress to St. Luke's. During the first five years of his ministry the congregation more than doubled. He possessed all the necessary qualities to be a zealous missionary. He was a brilliant scholar and had great interest in the classics as well as mathematics and architecture. In recognition of his schol arly abilities he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Divinity by the University of The South at Sewanee, Tennessee in 1890. He was a very capable theologian and was devoted to the historic Christian duty of expanding the Church and spreading the Gospel. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Directory of St. Paul's Reformed Episcopal Church: Of Chicago, Containing a Brief Sketch of the History of the Reformed Episcopal Church and of St. Paul's Church in Particular This Epitome is designed as an unpretending auxiliary in furtherance of the good work aimed at by Dr. Fallows and his worthy coadjutors. In it will be found a truthful history of St. Paul's Reformed Episcopal Church, of Chicago, situated on Washington Street, near Ann Street, together with such general items as I deemed of chief interest. Its hurried compilation, and the great difficulties to contend with, by reason of the but recent organization of the Church, must be my excuse for any errors that may appear upon its pages. I gratefully acknowledge the assistance rendered me by the Rev, Samuel Fallows, D.D., and Col. John W. Bennett, and hope that with the arrival of another year a new directory may be needed, much enlarged and improved, one that will keep pace with the glorious, prosperous future, which, we prayerfully trust, may be in store for St. Paul's Reformed Episcopal Church.
