Book Robust and Intelligent Control of a Typical Underactuated Robot

Download or read book Robust and Intelligent Control of a Typical Underactuated Robot written by Jian Huang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-09 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the achievements of the author's team in the research of a special underactuated system called mobile wheeled inverted pendulum (MWIP) developed over recent years. It focuses on a combination of theory and practice, and almost all algorithms are verified on the real MWIP system. Taking the dynamic modeling, control, and simulation as the mainline, this book first introduces the particularity, control challenges, and applications of the MWIP system. Then, Lagrange function is adopted to model the dynamics of two-dimensional and three-dimensional MWIP systems. Then, based on the special characteristics of the MWIP’s dynamics, a new high-order disturbance observer is designed, and a control strategy is proposed by combining the high-order disturbance observer with a novel design of sliding mode manifold. Furthermore, several methods to overcome the chattering problem of the traditional sliding mode control are presented in detail. Besides, some intelligent algorithms related to the interval type-2 fuzzy logic control are applied to the MWIP system. Finally, the future development of underactuated robot has been prospected. This book is intended for researchers and engineers in robotics and control. It can also be used as supplementary reading for nonlinear systems theory at the graduate level. The in-depth theory and detailed platform construction provide an excellent convenience for readers to build their platforms and learn the knowledge they need.

Book Design of an Intelligent Embedded System for Condition Monitoring of an Industrial Robot

Download or read book Design of an Intelligent Embedded System for Condition Monitoring of an Industrial Robot written by Alaa Abdulhady Jaber and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-08 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis introduces a successfully designed and commissioned intelligent health monitoring system, specifically for use on any industrial robot, which is able to predict the onset of faults in the joints of the geared transmissions. However the developed embedded wireless condition monitoring system leads itself very well for applications on any power transmission equipment in which the loads and speeds are not constant, and access is restricted. As such this provides significant scope for future development. Three significant achievements are presented in this thesis. First, the development of a condition monitoring algorithm based on vibration analysis of an industrial robot for fault detection and diagnosis. The combined use of a statistical control chart with time-domain signal analysis for detecting a fault via an arm-mounted wireless processor system represents the first stage of fault detection. Second, the design and development of a sophisticated embedded microprocessor base station for online implementation of the intelligent condition monitoring algorithm, and third, the implementation of a discrete wavelet transform, using an artificial neural network, with statistical feature extraction for robot fault diagnosis in which the vibration signals are first decomposed into eight levels of wavelet coefficients.

Book Modeling and Control of Static Converters for Hybrid Storage Systems

Download or read book Modeling and Control of Static Converters for Hybrid Storage Systems written by Fekik, Arezki and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-09-17 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The energy transition initiated in recent years has enabled the growing integration of renewable production into the energy mix. Microgrids make it possible to maximize the efficiency of energy transmission from source to consumer by bringing the latter together geographically and by reducing losses linked to transport. However, the lack of inertia and the micro-grid support system makes it weak, and energy storage is necessary to ensure its proper functioning. Current storage technologies do not make it possible to provide both a large capacity of energy and power at the same time. Hybrid storage is a solution that combines the advantages of several technologies and reduces their disadvantages. Modeling and Control of Static Converters for Hybrid Storage Systems covers the modeling, control theorems, and optimization techniques that solve many scientific problems for researchers in the field of power converter control for renewable energy hybrid storage and places particular emphasis on the modeling and control of static converters for hybrid storage systems. Covering topics ranging from energy storage to power generation, this book is ideal for automation engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, professionals, scientists, academicians, master's and doctoral students, and researchers in the disciplines of electrical and mechanical engineering.

Mo Jamshidi has spent his professional career formalizing and extending the field of large-scale complex systems (LSS) engineering resulting in educating numerous graduates specifically, ethnic minorities. He has made significant contributions in modeling, optimization, CAD, control and applications of large-scale systems leading to his current global role in formalizing system of systems engineering (SoSE), as a new field. His books on complex LSS and SoSE have filled a vacuum in cyber-physical systems literature for the 21st Century. His contributions to ethnic minority engineering education commenced with his work at the University of New Mexico (UNM, Tier-I Hispanic Serving Institution) in 1980 through a NASA JPL grant. Followed by several more major federal grants, he formalized a model for educating minorities, called VI-P Pyramid where K-12 students(bottom of pyramid) to doctoral (top of pyramid) students form a seamless group working on one project. Upper level students mentor lower ones on a sequential basis. Since 1980, he has graduated over 114 minority students consisting of 62 Hispanics, 34 African Americans., 15 Native Americans, and 3 Pacific Islanders. This book contains contributed chapters from colleagues, and former and current students of Professor Jamshidi. Areas of focus are: control systems, energy and system of systems, robotics and soft computing.

Book Extremum Seeking Control and Applications

Download or read book Extremum Seeking Control and Applications written by Chunlei Zhang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-26 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extremum-seeking control tracks a varying maximum or minimum in a performance function such as output or cost. It attempts to determine the optimal performance of a control system as it operates, thereby reducing downtime and the need for system analysis. Extremum-seeking Control and Applications is divided into two parts. In the first, the authors review existing analog-optimization-based extremum-seeking control including gradient-, perturbation- and sliding-mode-based control designs. They then propose a novel numerical-optimization-based extremum-seeking control based on optimization algorithms and state regulation. This control design is developed for simple linear time-invariant systems and then extended for a class of feedback linearizable nonlinear systems. The two main optimization algorithms – line search and trust region methods – are analyzed for robustness. Finite-time and asymptotic state regulators are put forward for linear and nonlinear systems respectively. Further design flexibility is achieved using the robustness results of the optimization algorithms and the asymptotic state regulator by which existing nonlinear adaptive control techniques can be introduced for robust design. The approach used is easier to implement and tends to be more robust than those that use perturbation-based extremum-seeking control. The second part of the book deals with a variety of applications of extremum-seeking control: a comparative study of extremum-seeking control schemes in antilock braking system design; source seeking, formation control, collision and obstacle avoidance for groups of autonomous agents; mobile radar networks; and impedance matching. MATLAB®/Simulink® code which can be downloaded from www.springer.com/ISBN helps readers to reproduce the results presented in the text and gives them a head start for implementing the algorithms in their own applications. Extremum-seeking Control and Applications will interest academics and graduate students working in control, and industrial practitioners from a variety of backgrounds: systems, automotive, aerospace, communications, semiconductor and chemical engineering.

Book Hybrid Systems Optimal Control and Hybrid Vehicles

Download or read book Hybrid Systems Optimal Control and Hybrid Vehicles written by Thomas J. Böhme and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-01 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book assembles new methods showing the automotive engineer for the first time how hybrid vehicle configurations can be modeled as systems with discrete and continuous controls. These hybrid systems describe naturally and compactly the networks of embedded systems which use elements such as integrators, hysteresis, state-machines and logical rules to describe the evolution of continuous and discrete dynamics and arise inevitably when modeling hybrid electric vehicles. They can throw light on systems which may otherwise be too complex or recondite. Hybrid Systems, Optimal Control and Hybrid Vehicles shows the reader how to formulate and solve control problems which satisfy multiple objectives which may be arbitrary and complex with contradictory influences on fuel consumption, emissions and drivability. The text introduces industrial engineers, postgraduates and researchers to the theory of hybrid optimal control problems. A series of novel algorithmic developments provides tools for solving engineering problems of growing complexity in the field of hybrid vehicles. Important topics of real relevance rarely found in text books and research publications—switching costs, sensitivity of discrete decisions and there impact on fuel savings, etc.—are discussed and supported with practical applications. These demonstrate the contribution of optimal hybrid control in predictive energy management, advanced powertrain calibration, and the optimization of vehicle configuration with respect to fuel economy, lowest emissions and smoothest drivability. Numerical issues such as computing resources, simplifications and stability are treated to enable readers to assess such complex systems. To help industrial engineers and managers with project decision-making, solutions for many important problems in hybrid vehicle control are provided in terms of requirements, benefits and risks.

Book Hybrid Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Hybrid Dynamical Systems written by Mohamed Djemai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of contributions defining the state of current knowledge and new trends in hybrid systems – systems involving both continuous dynamics and discrete events – as described by the work of several well-known groups of researchers. Hybrid Dynamical Systems presents theoretical advances in such areas as diagnosability, observability and stabilization for various classes of system. Continuous and discrete state estimation and self-triggering control of nonlinear systems are advanced. The text employs various methods, among them, high-order sliding modes, Takagi–Sugeno representation and sampled-data switching to achieve its ends. The many applications of hybrid systems from power converters to computer science are not forgotten; studies of flexible-joint robotic arms and – as representative biological systems – the behaviour of the human heart and vasculature, demonstrate the wide-ranging practical significance of control in hybrid systems. The cross-disciplinary origins of study in hybrid systems are evident. Academic researchers and graduate students interested in hybrid and switched systems need look no further than Hybrid Dynamical Systems for a single source which will bring them up to date with work in this area from around the world.
