Download or read book 1st and 2nd Thessalonians Paul s Letters to the Churches Affirming the Believer written by Practical Christianity Foundation and published by Practical Christianity Foundation. This book was released on 2020-08-08 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Empowering the Church In his second epistle to the Corinthian Church, the apostle Paul empowered the church by affirming that God's strength and power is revealed and works in our weakness. The apostle empowered the church with God's strength after having confronted the immorality, doctrinal confusion and frequent disputes that had become commonplace among the Corinthian believers. Paul's message to this church was simple yet powerful: Consider the values of Christ's redemption and realign your thinking with God's instructions. Although this letter was written to admonish, instruct and encourage the early church, they are just as relevant to us today. This verse-by-verse devotional study, complete with engaging commentary and practical life applications, will challenge you to pursue a closer walk with Jesus Christ and grow in the faith.

Book Paul s Letters to the Churches

Download or read book Paul s Letters to the Churches written by Big Dream Ministries and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible is simply a love letter compiled into sixty-six books and written over a period ofsixteen hundred years by more than forty authors living on three continents. Although theauthors came from different backgrounds, there is one message, one theme, one thread that runs throughout the entire Bible from the first book, Genesis, to the last book, Revelation. That message is God's redeeming love for mankind--a message that is as relevant for us today as it was two thousand years ago.Paul's Letters to the Churches (Romans, First Corinthians, Second Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, First Thessalonians, and Second Thessalonians) were written by Paul over a period of fourteen years to seven churches scattered throughout Asia Minor, Greece, and Rome. These churches were in different stages of maturity and all needed instruction from the great apostle. Though Paul did not found all of them, he was looked to for leadership as these churches moved through various seasons of growth and challenge. As we will see, these letters contain both doctrine and practical explanation. The apostle took the great truths of the life, death, resurrection, and return of Jesus Christ and explained and applied them for the members of these newly established centers of Christian worship and witness. Because of the different circumstances into which Paul sent these letters, each has its own flavor and emphasis. However, the Spirit of God and the purpose of the Scriptures make them as applicable today as they were nearly two thousand years ago when the apostle originally penned them.

Book The Letters to the Thessalonians

Download or read book The Letters to the Thessalonians written by GENE L GREEN and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this commentary Gene Green reads Paul's two letters to the Thessalonians in light of the canon of Scripture and of new knowledge about the first-century world of Thessalonica. This fruitful approach helps illuminate the impact of the gospel on its original readers and, in turn, shows how potent a force it can be for the church and society today. The book begins with an in-depth study of the Thessalonians themselves -- their history, land, socioeconomic conditions, and religious environment. This fascinating discussion gives the necessary context for fully appreciating the circumstances surrounding the founding of the city's first church and the subsequent struggles of the Thessalonian believers to live out their Christian faith. The main body of the book provides informed verse-by-verse commentary on 1 & 2 Thessalonians that extracts the fullest possible meaning from these important New Testament texts. As Green's exposition shows, the Thessalonian scriptures are especially valuable as letters of friendship and for showing Paul's pastoral concern for the many areas in which the Thessalonians needed guidance. Some of Paul's purposes are to thank the new believers for their steadfastness amid suffering, to encourage them in their trials, to urge them not to neglect their daily work, and, no less important, to teach them about the future of believers who die before Christ returns. Indeed, the matter of the last things and the second coming of Christ so permeates these texts that they are often called Paul's eschatological letters. Filled with new information about ancient society, this commentary will fast become a standard reference work for Bible study. By carefully bridging the biblical and modern worlds, Green shows with clarity and warmth the continuing relevance of 1 & 2 Thessalonians for contemporary readers.

Download or read book Exploring Thessalonians written by George R. Knight and published by Review and Herald Pub Assoc. This book was released on 2012 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The letters of Paul to the Thessalonian believers not only provide insight into the challenges faced by one of the early Christian churches, but also allow a glimpse into the great pastoral heart of the stalwart evangelist. Yes, he endured beatings, stoning, and imprisonment on his missionary journeys and even rejoiced that he was found worthy to suffer for his Lord. Yet in the midst of his own trials he longed to nurture and encourage those converts who were experiencing persecution as well. Intertwined among such familiar themes as the Second Advent, the resurrection of believers, church discipline, and the man of lawlessness. Paul's recurring emphasis is how to live while waiting for Jesus to return. It may come as a surprise to Christians steeped in a postmodern culture, but holiness separation from the ways of the world and commitment to the ways of God and the requisite dependence upon God's power are commanded. This user-friendly devotional commentary divides the text of these two letters into short passages followed by exegetical explanation and practical application. Though these messages were penned nearly 2,000 years ago, the apostle's words are just as relevant to Christians now as they were to the fledgling church in the first century. Book jacket.

Book Reflections on the Apostle Paul s Letters to the Thessalonians

Download or read book Reflections on the Apostle Paul s Letters to the Thessalonians written by Dr. Randy L James and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2024-03-06 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book follows the devotional theme of other books I have written over the last few years (Unraveling the Revelation, Prayers from the Psalms, Reflections on Romans, and Reflections on the Gospel of John), but with an added feature. At the end of each devotional passage there are four questions which can be used for discussion by Sunday School classes, home Bible study groups, or for personal reflection. This enables the reader to probe deeper into the truth of the biblical text and provides challenges to varying opinions without dictating any certain result. The fact that the letters of Paul to the church in Thessalonica are generally considered to be the oldest of the New Testament writings, combined with the reference from Acts 17:2 that Paul was only able to be with the church for three Sabbaths before being literally run out of town, makes this study all the more amazing. That the church survived after such a riotous beginning, let alone flourish as an example for the ages, proves that it truly was a miracle of grace. If God could produce such wonderful results in a place that from all outward appearances had no real chance to succeed, then surely churches today all around the world should take heart and believe that He can also do in our stations of worship what He did then and there. Any church that is struggling to grow or even survive can find hope in this ancient letter from the first missionary Apostle of Jesus Christ, our brother Paul.

Book The First and Second Letters to the Thessalonians

Download or read book The First and Second Letters to the Thessalonians written by Gordon D. Fee and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2009-07-10 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this commentary Gordon Fee aims first and foremost to offer a fresh exposition of the text of 1 and 2 Thessalonians. He shows the reader what is in the biblical text, what the text meant in the first century, and what it means now. Fee reveals the logic of each argument or narrative before moving on to the details of each verse, and he concludes each section with a theological-practical reflection on the meaning of the text for today. Among other things, Fee explores the occasion for Paul s writing of each epistle, restoring 2 Thessalonians to its rightful place as a full companion to the first letter, not merely a tagalong to 1 Thessalonians. / A labor of love on Fee s part, this commentary will serve to help rescue 1 and 2 Thessalonians from their Cinderella status among Paul's letters. Fee s primary target is the proverbial busy pastor who wants help in understanding the biblical text as he or she prepares to preach or teach. However, as with all his commentaries, he also provides solid exposition for students in the process of learning how to preach or teach and enough technical material (mostly in the footnotes) so that even the scholar can benefit.

Download or read book Love Letters written by Helen M. Moss and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-08-30 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a Love Letter? Merriam Webster's online dictionary defines love as an unselfish, loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another: as (1): the fatherly concern of God for humankind (2): brotherly concern for others b: a person's adoration of God. Love Letters; Paul's Epistles and Ministry to the Early Church is the epitome of this type of love. For Paul's letters to the early church illuminated his love for God manifested in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as well as his true affection for the Jews and Gentiles who were establishing the early Bodies of Christ-the church. This book chronicles the Apostle Paul's missionary journeys through the Roman Empire teaching and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to both Jewish Christians and Gentiles. The epistles, letters, written to the early churches served several purposes. They contained heartfelt greetings, praise, thanksgiving, words of encouragement, and when necessary, chastisements. But more importantly, the Love Letters conveyed the unconditional love of Jesus Christ for the believer. The epistles to the early churches also helped to form doctrine, church order, conduct and traditions plus accepted leadership qualities along with responsibilities. The tone of the letters was infused with Paul's genuine benevolent concern for and loyalty to the early Christians establishing churches in a hostile environment. Love Letters; Paul's Epistles and Ministry to the Early Church while serving as an examination of the early church and its formation, it also can be a template for the church today as it meets the challenges of the contemporary world.

Book Paul s Letters to the Thessalonians

Download or read book Paul s Letters to the Thessalonians written by Peter Russell-Yarde and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2022-12-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After his imprisonment and flogging in Philippi, Paul travelled with Silas and Timothy to Thessalonica and with them, founded a church there. But after three sabbaths of debate in the synagogue, apart from a few Jews who believed Paul's message that Yeshua (Jesus) was the long-awaited Messiah, most of the Jews as a body rejected the gospel Paul preached. Those Jews who believed and a great number of proselytes, who were not so steeped in the historical Jewish religious dogma of the fathers and therefore more receptive to Paul's teaching, along with not a few of the leading women, joined Paul in the house of Jason, which was next door to the synagogue, where the word of the gospel reached out to the Gentile population. The seed of the gospel had been sown and found fertile soil, resulting in a church being planted and ministers appointed, and even more amazingly the new converts themselves became missionaries. By both word of mouth and example these new believers were extending the reach of the gospel in Macedonia, Achaia and elsewhere, such was their conviction of the truth of all that Paul had taught them. Sometime later Paul asked Timothy to return to Thessalonica to continue teaching them the deep truths of the gospel and how to live a life worthy of God. It was Timothy who, joining Paul in Corinth where the letters were written, gave a glowing report of the church there. Letter 1 Paul starts by complimenting them on their work of faith and labour of love and patience of hope in the Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father. He assessed their relationship and mentions both how he and his companions brought the gospel to them, and their readiness to accept the message. After three sabbaths in the synagogue, a few Jews accepted Paul's message that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah. However, many proselytes, God fearers were ready to not only hear the word but also receive it and consider its implications. With many of them going with Paul to the house of Jason next door to the synagogue, such was the excitement of this new meaningful gospel to them that leading women of the city and Gentiles were attracted to it also. Paul challenges them to please God in their daily living, that the message of the gospel is not for belief only, but had to become part of the structure of their lives and the way they went about their daily living. He also comforts them by pointing out the hope of the resurrection, warning them to be prepared for the coming again of the Lord Jesus at any time, which was to keep them on their toes. Letter 2 In this shorter letter Paul first rejoices in the endurance of the Thessalonians in spite of the persecution they have suffered, for such endurance is a sign of God's righteousness. However, he was concerned about the misunderstanding regarding the second coming of Jesus which had caused some to stop working to prepare themselves for that event. He tells them that they must not be disturbed by all the news that was going around that the second coming was very near, for no one knows when He will come again, only the Father. And that before his return a great rebellion will occur led by a person who will claim to take the place of God, but Jesus will come and utterly destroy him and his followers. In the meantime, they should stand firm on the teaching they had received which was the truth of God, in order to receive God's encouragement and secure their hope in Him, to pray for strength in their faith, their work for God and the spreading of the gospel message. He ends with personal greetings and a benediction.
