Book Integrated Network Management V

Download or read book Integrated Network Management V written by Aurel Lazar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to IM'97! We hope you had the opportunity to attend the Conference in beautiful San Diego. If that was the case, you will want to get back to these proceedings for further read ings and reflections. You'll find e-mail addresses of the main author of each paper, and you are surely encouraged to get in touch for further discussions. You can also take advantage of the CNOM (Committee on Network Operation and Management) web site where a virtual discus sion agora has been set up for IM'97 (URL: http://www.cselt.stet.it/CNOMWWWIIM97.html). At this site you will find a brief summary of discussions that took place in the various panels, and slides that accompanied some of the presentations--all courtesy of the participants. If you have not been to the Conference, leafing through these proceedings may give you food for thought. Hopefully, you will also be joining the virtual world on the web for discussions with authors and others who were at the Conference. At IM'97 the two worlds of computer networks and telecommunications systems came to gether, each proposing a view to management that stems from their own paradigms. Each world made clear the need for end-to-end management and, therefore, each one stepped into the oth er's field. We feel that there is no winner but a mutual enrichment. The time is ripe for integra tion and it is likely that the next Conference will bear its fruit.

Book EurAsia ICT 2002 Information and Communication Technology

Download or read book EurAsia ICT 2002 Information and Communication Technology written by M. Hassan Shafazand and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-30 with total page 1043 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We welcomed participants to the 1st EurAsian Conference on Advances in Information and Communication Technology (EurAsia ICT 2002) held in Iran. The aim of the conference was to serve as a forum to bring together researchers from academia and commercial developers from industry to discuss the current state of the art in ICT, mainly in Europe and Asia. Inspirations and new ideas were expected to emerge from intensive discussions during formal sessions and social events. Keynote addresses, research presentation, and discussion during the conference helped to further develop the exchange of ideas among the researchers, developers, and practitioners who attended. The conference attracted more than 300 submissions and each paper was reviewed by at least three program committee members. The program committee selected 119 papers from authors of 30 different countries for presentation and publication, a task which was not easy due to the high quality of the submitted papers. Eleven workshops were organized in parallel with the EurAsia ICT conference. The proceedings of these workshops, with more than 100 papers, were published by the Austrian Computer Society. We would like to express our thanks to our colleagues who helped with putting together the technical program: the program committee members and external reviewers for their timely and rigorous reviews of the papers, and the organizing committee for their help in administrative work and support. We owe special thanks to Thomas Schierer for always being available when his helping hand was needed.

Book Database Support for Data Mining Applications

Download or read book Database Support for Data Mining Applications written by Rosa Meo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-07-28 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data mining from traditional relational databases as well as from non-traditional ones such as semi-structured data, Web data, and scientific databases housing biological, linguistic, and sensor data has recently become a popular way of discovering hidden knowledge. This book on database support for data mining is developed to approaches exploiting the available database technology, declarative data mining, intelligent querying, and associated issues, such as optimization, indexing, query processing, languages, and constraints. Attention is also paid to the solution of data preprocessing problems, such as data cleaning, discretization, and sampling. The 16 reviewed full papers presented were carefully selected from various workshops and conferences to provide complete and competent coverage of the core issues. Some papers were developed within an EC funded project on discovering knowledge with inductive queries.

Book Mobile Agents for Telecommunication Applications

Download or read book Mobile Agents for Telecommunication Applications written by Ahmed Karmouch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-30 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research in the telecommunications ?eld suggests that future network infrastructures will be composed of sensors, wireless devices, personal digital assistants, networked appliances and numerous types of services. This brings up key issues such as unfamiliar users and service interfaces, discovering services that match user’s needs, ?nding and tracking people and resources, establishing useful contacts and appropriate associations between resources and users, and managing a large number of dynamic network entities all of which must be performed in an automated and proactive manner with a certain degree of autonomy and mobility. These are the main characteristics exhibited by mobile software agent behavior, making the technology more suitable for future telecommu- cation applications and services. It also reveals the tremendous potential for the mobile agent paradigm. The potential complexity of mobile agent operation requires that mechanisms exist on several levels to coordinate its activities. For this purpose research and development on various forms of mobile agents continues to grow in a staggering fashion. Age- based applications and services such as network management, e-commerce, information gathering on the Internet, mobile communications, active networking, and most recently ad hoc communications are becoming increasingly popular and continue to contribute to the development and to the success of mobile agent technology. In addition it is well established that mobile agents is an ideal sister technology for mobile ad hoc networks where users, applications, services, devices and networks are mobile and dynamically con?gurable.

Book Managing QoS in Multimedia Networks and Services

Download or read book Managing QoS in Multimedia Networks and Services written by José Neuman de Souza and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the third International Conference on Management of Multimedia Networks and Services (MMNS'2000) in Fortaleza (Brazil)! The first MMNS was held in Montreal ( Canada) in july 1997 and the second MMNS was held in Versailles (France) in November 1998. The MMNS conference takes place every year and a half and is aimed to be a truly international event by bringing together researchers and practitioners from all around the world and by organising the conference each time in a different continent/country. Over the past several years, there has been a considerable amount of research within the fields of multimedia networking and network management. Much of that work has taken place within the context of managing Quality-of Service in broadband integrated services digital networks such as the A TM, and more recently in IP-based networks, to respond to the requirements of emerging multimedia applications. A TM networks were designed to support multimedia traffic with diverse characteristics and can be used as the transfer mode for both wired and wireless networks. A new set of Internet protocols is being developed to provide better quality of service, which is a prerequisite for supporting multimedia applications. Multimedia applications have a different set of requirements, which impacts the design of the underlying communication network as well as its management. Several QoS management mechanisms intervening at different layers of the communication network are required including QoS-routing, QoS-based transport, QoS negotiation, QoS adaptation, FCAPS management, and mobility management.
