Book La Salle Women s Basketball Media Guide 1994 95 Classic Reprint

Download or read book La Salle Women s Basketball Media Guide 1994 95 Classic Reprint written by La Salle University and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from La Salle Women's Basketball Media Guide, 1994-95 Junior tri-captain Marci Willis (langhorne, pa) will battle it out with sophomore Margit Rinke (pine River, mn) for the starting center position. Willis became the starting center seven games into the season last year. After averaging just about 16 minutes a game Willis ended her sophomore season as La Salles third leading rebounder. As long as her knees don't give out, Willis will prove to be quite a threat in the paint. At 6-2, Rinke is probably the only true center on the team. She is a hard worker who, without a doubt, was the most improved player on the team last year. Hopefully Rinke will take her game to the next level this season. Book Legacy of the Blues a Century of Athletics at the W

Download or read book Legacy of the Blues a Century of Athletics at the W written by Garrett and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-09 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mississippi University for Women was a pioneer in the Southeast Region as well as the State of Mississippi in encouraging, promoting, and sponsoring intercollegiate athletics for women. The programs were always of the highest quality and conducted with integrity. The students and coaches involved were dedicated and committed to their respective sport. Loss of the Physical Education Assembly Building, destroyed by a tornado in 2002, and the subsequent decision (2003) by the university to cease participation in intercollegiate athletics prompted the writing of this book. Physical resources and historical records had been destroyed. Concern that the knowledge of this program would be lost along with its signifi cance to the university alumnae, and womens sport history, challenged five retired Health and Kinesiology faculty members to write this book. They knew that their collective knowledge and experiences were invaluable in recording a century of athletic competition at the W. These women promoted the educational model of sport believing that the opportunity to participate in sports brings both value and pleasure to the quality of life.

  • Author : Lindsay Sarah Krasnoff

Download or read book Basketball Empire written by Lindsay Sarah Krasnoff and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-09-07 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Basketball Association (NBA), founded over 75 years ago, is staging a 21st century takeover. Watched in 215 countries and territories worldwide, and with nearly one in three players born and trained overseas, it is no longer just about America. In this book, Lindsay Sarah Krasnoff shows how basketball's global takeover could not have happened without France, exploring its interactions with the United States and colonial legacies with francophone Africa and the Afro-Caribbean. Taking us back to the very beginnings of basketball, she shows how remnants of empire have shaped the game. Asking how and why so many French basketball players have joined the NBA and WNBA, Basketball Empire explores what this has meant for the league and the players themselves. Going behind the scenes, it follows the generations of men and women who, since 1950, have followed their passion for the game to create a basketball breeding ground. Including interviews with players, sports journalists, league directors and coaches past and present, it uncovers the transatlantic networks and complex Franco-American relations that have nurtured a mutual exchange of culture, technical skill and knowledge. These first-hand accounts, supported by media and government archives, show how these forms of sports diplomacy sowed the seeds of a basketball revolution and helped make the NBA a global cultural entity. Arguing that basketball is deeply indebted to France's colonial history and close, albeit complicated, relationship with the United States this book is about the creation of a cultural empire, and shows how sports can be the vehicle to build bridges between nations.
