Book The Institutional Position of Seaports

Download or read book The Institutional Position of Seaports written by H. Stevens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-27 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of international seaport administration is the subject of this book. As a Ph.D.-student at the Delft University of Technology (period 1993 - 1997) I had the opportunity to develop and exercise my hobby on a full time base. The result was a Ph.D.-dissertation which was defended in December 1997. Unfortunately, these research results were published in Dutch while the majority of the interviewees and employees in the world of international seaport administration are English speaking people. Both for the reason of high international relevance of the results I felt the necessity to get this Ph.D.-research translated and published in English. With the excellent help of my promotor Prof.dr. W.G.M. Salet I found Prof.dr. H. van der Wusten prepared to cover this study on international seaport administration in the Kluwer GeoJournal Library series. I thank Mr. Van der Wusten for giving me this opportunity. But also due to the outstanding help of my current employer 'Zeeland Seaports Authority' the funding for the translation became very quickly possible. I thank the Managing Director of Zeeland Seaports Authority, Mr. J.M.H.G. Philippen, and the Commercial Director, Capt. J. Verkiel, for their interest and wonderful help in getting this study translated. And of course my sincere thanks go to Katy Owen who actually made this dream come true.

Book Multimodal intermodal Transportation in the United States Western Europe and Latin America

Download or read book Multimodal intermodal Transportation in the United States Western Europe and Latin America written by Leigh B. Boske and published by Lyndon B. Johnson, School of Public Affairs. This book was released on 1998 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This policy research project was funded by and conducted for the Texas Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration. The research was performed during the 1997-98 academic year by 18 graduate students and a faculty project director at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, The University of Texas at Austin. Its purpose was to examine "best practices" in governmental multimodal/intermodal transport policies, plans, and programs. This task was accomplished by investigating supranational, national, state, and local government multimodal/intermodal activities in North America, Western Europe, and Latin America.

Book Institutional Challenges to Intermodal Transport and Logistics

Download or read book Institutional Challenges to Intermodal Transport and Logistics written by Jason Monios and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-23 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the operational realities of intermodal transport are relatively well known, the institutional challenges are less well understood. This book provides an overview of intermodal transport and logistics including the policy background, emerging industry trends and academic approaches. Establishing the three key features of intermodal transport geography as intermodal terminals, inland logistics and hinterland corridors, Jason Monios takes an institutional approach to understanding the difficulties of successful intermodal transport and logistics. Key areas of investigation include the policy and planning background, the roles of public and private stakeholders and the identification of emerging strategy conflicts. Substantial empirical content situates the theoretical and practical issues in real-world examples via three detailed case study chapters (covering the USA, UK and Europe), making the book useful to students as well as practitioners desiring an understanding of how intermodal transport and logistics work in practice. The identified challenges to intermodal transport and logistics are used to demonstrate how competing port and inland strategies can inhibit the necessary processes of integration required to underpin successful intermodal transport. The book concludes with a look at the future of institutional adaptation that may enhance the capacity of freight actors to engage with intermodal transport developments.
