These events prompted a serious examination of the earthquake threat to B.C. and the state of preparedness for the next earthquake in the province. This report describes some of the initiatives taken in the provincial government and Crown corporations. These include those taken by the Inter-Agency Emergency Preparedness Committee, the B.C. earthquake response plan, building seismic safety standards, the ministries of finance and corporate relations, government management services, advanced education, training and technology, solicitor general, and education; and such Crown corporations as the Buildings Corp., the Ferry Corp., the Pavilion Corp., the Lottery Corp., the Insurance Corp., the Hydro and Power Authority, the Systems Corp., and B.C. Transit.
