Book A Picture is Worth a Thousand Tables

Download or read book A Picture is Worth a Thousand Tables written by Andreas Krause and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-12 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the graphics of patient data: good graphs enabling straight¬forward and intuitive interpretation, efficient creation, and straightforward interpretation. We focus on easy access to graphics of patient data: the intention is to show a large variety of graphs for different phases of drug development, together with a description of what the graph shows, what type of data it uses, and what options there are. The main aim is to provide inspiration in form of a “graphics cookbook.” Many graphs provide creative ideas about what can be done. The book is not intended to be technical. It introduces general principles of good visualization to make readers understand the concepts, but the main focus is on the creativity and usefulness: readers are enabled to browse through the book to get ideas of how their own data can be analyzed graphically. Book Spatial Analytical

Download or read book Spatial Analytical written by Manfred M Fischer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-13 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to manipulate spatial data in different forms and to extract additional meaning from them is at the heart of GIS, yet genuine spatial analysis tools are rarely incorporated into commercial software, thus seriously limiting their usefulness. The future of GIS technology wil depend largely on the incorporation of more powerful analytical and modelling functions - and there is agreement within the GIS community of the urgent need to address these issues. This text attempts this task. It presents the latest information on incorporating spatial analysis tools into GIS, and includes concepts and applications from both the environmental and socio-econimc sciences.

Book Handbook of Computational Statistics

Download or read book Handbook of Computational Statistics written by Yuichi Mori and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-07-14 with total page 1096 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Computational Statistics: Concepts and Methodology is divided into four parts. It begins with an overview over the field of Computational Statistics. The second part presents several topics in the supporting field of statistical computing. Emphasis is placed on the need of fast and accurate numerical algorithms and it discusses some of the basic methodologies for transformation, data base handling and graphics treatment. The third part focuses on statistical methodology. Special attention is given to smoothing, iterative procedures, simulation and visualization of multivariate data. Finally a set of selected applications like Bioinformatics, Medical Imaging, Finance and Network Intrusion Detection highlight the usefulness of computational statistics.

Book Exploring Geovisualization

Download or read book Exploring Geovisualization written by J. Dykes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-02-10 with total page 733 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sophisticated interactive maps are increasingly used to explore information - guiding us through data landscapes to provide information and prompt insight and understanding. Geovisualization is an emerging domain that draws upon disciplines such as computer science, human-computer interactiondesign, cognitive sciences, graphical statistics, data visualization, information visualization, geographic information science and cartography to discuss, develop and evaluate interactive cartography. This review and exploration of the current and future status of geovisualization has been produced by key researchers and practitioners from around the world in various cognate fields ofstudy. The thirty-six chapters present summaries of work undertaken, case studies focused on new methods and their application, system descriptions, tests of their implementation, plans for collaboration and reflections on experiences of using and developing geovisualization techniques. In total, over 50 pages of color are provided in the book along with more than 250 color images on an enclosed CD-ROM.

Book Combinatorics on Traces

    Book Details:
  • Author : Volker Diekert
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 1990-09-12
  • ISBN : 9783540530312
  • Pages : 184 pages

Download or read book Combinatorics on Traces written by Volker Diekert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-09-12 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction of a software system is a task that has to be structured toensure that the software product fulfills all expectations and the process of producing it remains manageable and reliable. Mathematical methods, including logic, algebra and functional calculus, are needed to support structuring and provide notations and basic formal concepts for the foundations of software engineering. Mathematical methods of programming reflect the need for modularization and abstraction and suggest appropriate goal-directed procedures for the construction of software programs. This volume contains the proceedings of an International Summer School held at Marktoberdorf in 1990, the 11th in a series on mathematical methods in programming. Outstanding scientists contributed papers centered around logical and functional calculi for the specification, refinement and verification of programs and program systems, and remarkable examples for the formal development of proofs and algorithms are given.

Book On the Shape of Mathematical Arguments

Download or read book On the Shape of Mathematical Arguments written by A. J. M. Gasteren and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-07-24 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the presentation and systematic design of mathematical proofs, including correctness proofs of algorithms. Its purpose is to show how completeness of argument, an important constraint especially for the correctness of algorithms, can be combined with brevity. The author stresses that the use of formalism is indispensible for achieving this. A second purpose of the book is to discuss matters of design. Rather than addressing psychological questions, the author deals with more technical questions like how analysis of the shape of the demonstrandum can guide the design of a proof. This technical rather than psychological view of heuristics together with the stress on exploiting formalism effectively are two key features of the book. The book consists of two independently readable parts. One part includes a number of general chapters discussing techniques for clear exposition, the use of formalism, the choice of notations, the choice of what to name and how to name it, and so on. The other part consists of a series of expositional essays, each dealing with a proof or an algorithm and illustrating the use of techniques discussed in the more general chapters.
