Book Flow Induced Vibrations

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eduard Naudascher
  • Publisher : Courier Corporation
  • Release : 2012-03-27
  • ISBN : 0486136132
  • Pages : 434 pages

Download or read book Flow Induced Vibrations written by Eduard Naudascher and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite their variety, the vibration phenomena from many different engineering fields can be classified into a relatively few basic excitation mechanisms. The classification enables engineers to identify all possible sources of excitation in a given system and to assess potential dangers. This graduate-level text presents a synthesis of research results and practical experience from disparate fields in the form of engineering guidelines. It is particularly geared toward assessing the possible sources of excitation in a flow system, in identifying the actual danger spots, and in finding appropriate remedial measures or cures. Flow-induced vibrations are presented in terms of their basic elements: body oscillators, fluid oscillators, and sources of excitation. By stressing these basic elements, the authors provide a basis for the transfer of knowledge from one system to another, as well as from one engineering field to another. In this manner, well-known theories on cylinders in cross-flow or well-executed solutions from the field of wind engineering--to name just two examples--may be useful in other systems or fields on which information is scarce. The unified approach is broad enough to permit treatment of the major excitation mechanism, yet simple enough to be of practical use.

Book Fluid Structure Interactions

Download or read book Fluid Structure Interactions written by Michael P. Paidoussis and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-12-07 with total page 885 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of two books concentrating on the dynamics of slender bodies within or containing axial flow, Fluid-Structure Interaction, Volume 1 covers the fundamentals and mechanisms giving rise to flow-induced vibration, with a particular focus on the challenges associated with pipes conveying fluid. This volume has been thoroughly updated to reference the latest developments in the field, with a continued emphasis on the understanding of dynamical behaviour and analytical methods needed to provide long-term solutions and validate the latest computational methods and codes. In this edition, Chapter 7 from Volume 2 has also been moved to Volume 1, meaning that Volume 1 now mainly treats the dynamics of systems subjected to internal flow, whereas in Volume 2 the axial flow is in most cases external to the flow or annular. - Provides an in-depth review of an extensive range of fluid-structure interaction topics, with detailed real-world examples and thorough referencing throughout for additional detail - Organized by structure and problem type, allowing you to dip into the sections that are relevant to the particular problem you are facing, with numerous appendices containing the equations relevant to specific problems - Supports development of long-term solutions by focusing on the fundamentals and mechanisms needed to understand underlying causes and operating conditions under which apparent solutions might not prove effective

Book Jet Cutting Technology

Download or read book Jet Cutting Technology written by A. Lichtarowicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers presented at the 11th International Conference on Jet Cutting Technology, held at St. Andrews, Scotland, on 8-10 September 1992. Jetting techniques have been successfully applied for many years in the field of cleaning and descaling. Today, however, jet cutting is used in operations as diverse as removing cancerous growths from the human body, decommissioning sunsea installations and disabling explosive munitions. The diversity is reflected in the papers presented at the conference. The papers were divided into several main sections: jetting basics -- materials; jetting basics -- fluid mechanics; mining and quarrying; civil engineering; new developments; petrochem; cleaning and surface treatment; and manufacturing. The high quality of papers presented at the conference has further reinforced its position as the premier event in the field. The volume will be of interest to researchers, developers and manufacturers of systems, equipment users and contractors.

Book Techniques in Rheological Measurement

Download or read book Techniques in Rheological Measurement written by A.A. Collyer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an earlier book, Rheological Measurement (A. A. Collyer & D. W. Clegg, Elsevier Applied Science, 1988), the basic rheological methods of measurement presently used were discussed in the light of the basic underlying principles and current theories. The same approach is adopted in this companion book, which is concerned with some newer or more sophisticated techniques that have resulted from a fresh understanding of the subject, or as a result of improvement in computer control, data acquisition and computational power, or more simply from an industrial need, particularly with regard to process control. The first two chapters deal with the extensional flow properties of fluids and their measurement. This inclusion is in response to a greater awareness in industry of the importance of these flows. Chapter 3 intro duces and develops the subject of surface rheology and the measurement of its properties, again a subject of increasing significance. The methods of measurement of the dynamic mechanical properties of fluids and the calculation of the resulting rheological parameters are discussed in Chap ters 4-7 inclusive. The subject areas covered are: large-amplitude oscilla tory shear, a model for viscoelastic fluids and solids, a new method of measuring dynamic mechanical properties, particularly for curing sys tems, and the use of complex waveforms in dynamic mechanical analysis.
