Book The Big Book of Serial Killers

Download or read book The Big Book of Serial Killers written by Jack Rosewood and published by An Encyclopedia of Serial Killers. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is little more terrifying than those who hunt, stalk and snatch their prey under the cloak of darkness. These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh. They are cannibals, vampires and monsters, and they walk among us. These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair. They are people living in society, going about their day-to-day activities until nightfall. They are the Dennis Rader's, the fathers, husbands, church-going members of the community. This A-Z encyclopedia of 150 serial killers is the ideal reference book. Included are the most famous true crime serial killers, like Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and Richard Ramirez, and not to mention the women who kill, such as Aileen Wuornos and Martha Rendell. There are also lesser-known serial killers, covering many countries around the world, so the range is broad. Each of the serial killer files includes information on when and how they killed the victims, the background of each killer, or the suspects in some cases such as the Zodiac killer, their trials and punishments. For some, there are chilling quotes by the killers themselves. The Big Book of Serial Killers is an easy-to-follow collection of information on the world's most heinous murderers.

This book was released on 2016-05-02 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thanks in no small part to the billion dollar movie industries in different parts of the world that release tonnes of serial-killer-themed movies on a yearly basis and writers and authors who publish thousands of novels and story books that portray the lives of fictional serial killers; we have become accustomed to the phrase "serial killers". A common idiom says that "familiarity breeds contempt"; this idiom is largely true and it is fact reflected in the way we associate criminals with the phrase "serial killers". It is not uncommon to see a toddler or perhaps, even a teenager who has spent hours watching a movie series centered around the life of a serial killer begin to associate just about every criminal activity he hears on the news with serial killing. Consequently, statements like "Dad, I heard the FBI finally apprehended the man who fatally shot aunt Serena at the park... the man must be a serial killer." The reasons for this apparent common misinterpretation of serial killing or perhaps more appropriately, serial killer is not exactly farfetched. Just as there seems to be a form of chaos regarding the use of the phrase "serial killer", there also seem to be a form of "disorderliness" regarding the origin of serial killer; even though it must be said that there appears to be a consensus in the case of the latter, especially of recent. It is widely believed that the phrase was first used in an English Language book titled The Complete Detective; the book written by Richard Hughes was published in 1950. However, recent research credits the first use of the phrase albeit in German to Ernst August Ferdinand Gennat, the Director of the Berlin Criminal Police, around 20 years before The Complete Detective was published (1931 to be precise). In the new age however, FBI Special Agent, Robert Ressler, who was one of the founding members of the Bureau's elite Behavioral Science Unit receives a larger chunk of the recognition for inventing the phrase "serial killer". According to Robert Ressler, he fell in love with the phrase when the FBI where attempting to solve the case of the notorious serial killer "Son of Sam" (who coincidentally we are going to look at) in the 1970s. Before we begin to explore the lives of Son of Sam and other infamous serial killers this country has ever had I think it's only fair that we fully comprehend what makes an indivual a serial killer. Just like other knock-on themes surrounding serial killer(s), the definition of what constitutes of a serial killer still generates debate even up until today. The main area of the definition of serial killer which springs up debate is the number of murder victims a serial killer should have. While the FBI puts it as a series of two or more murders committed by an individual other experts like psychologists and related professionals are of the opinion that the murder victims of serial killer should be a minimum of three. Despite this difference in the number of murder victims of a serial killer, the consensus is that uncharacteristic psychological satisfaction, financial rewards, physical and sexual delight, and aberrant search for ecstasy are often times the deciding factor in the heinous behavior of serial killers. Another critical part of serial killing is that the murder events must have taken place at different times; this break between events is often called the "cooling off period". Despite the apparent disparity in the "numerical victim-composition" of a serial killer, one thing is certain: they largely murder people at unprecedented rate and nobody wants to be friends with a serial killer, well, except he or she is also a serial killer or a related criminal.

Book Female Serial Killers

Download or read book Female Serial Killers written by Peter Vronsky and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2007-08-07 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this fascinating book, Peter Vronsky exposes and investigates the phenomenon of women who kill—and the political, economic, social and sexual implications buried with each victim. How many of us are even remotely prepared to imagine our mothers, daughters, sisters or grandmothers as fiendish killers? For centuries we have been conditioned to think of serial murderers and psychopathic predators as men—with women registering low on our paranoia radar. Perhaps that’s why so many trusting husbands, lovers, family friends, and children have fallen prey to “the female monster.” From history’s earliest recorded cases of homicidal females to Irma Grese, the Nazi Beast of Belsen, from Britain’s notorious child-slayer Myra Hindley to ‘Honeymoon Killer’ Martha Beck to the sensational cult of Aileen Wournos—the first female serial killer-as-celebrity—to cult killers, homicidal missionaries, and our pop-culture fascination with the sexy femme fatale, Vronsky not only challenges our ordinary standards of good and evil but also defies our basic accepted perceptions of gender role and identity. Download or read book Survived by One written by Robert E. Hanlon and published by SIU Press. This book was released on 2013-08-06 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On November 8, 1985, 18-year-old Tom Odle brutally murdered his parents and three siblings in the small southern Illinois town of Mount Vernon, sending shockwaves throughout the nation. The murder of the Odle family remains one of the most horrific family mass murders in U.S. history. Odle was sentenced to death and, after seventeen years on death row, expected a lethal injection to end his life. However, Illinois governor George Ryan’s moratorium on the death penalty in 2000, and later commutation of all death sentences in 2003, changed Odle’s sentence to natural life. The commutation of his death sentence was an epiphany for Odle. Prior to the commutation of his death sentence, Odle lived in denial, repressing any feelings about his family and his horrible crime. Following the commutation and the removal of the weight of eventual execution associated with his death sentence, he was confronted with an unfamiliar reality. A future. As a result, he realized that he needed to understand why he murdered his family. He reached out to Dr. Robert Hanlon, a neuropsychologist who had examined him in the past. Dr. Hanlon engaged Odle in a therapeutic process of introspection and self-reflection, which became the basis of their collaboration on this book. Hanlon tells a gripping story of Odle’s life as an abused child, the life experiences that formed his personality, and his tragic homicidal escalation to mass murder, seamlessly weaving into the narrative Odle’s unadorned reflections of his childhood, finding a new family on death row, and his belief in the powers of redemption. As our nation attempts to understand the continual mass murders occurring in the U.S., Survived by One sheds some light on the psychological aspects of why and how such acts of extreme carnage may occur. However, Survived by One offers a never-been-told perspective from the mass murderer himself, as he searches for the answers concurrently being asked by the nation and the world.

Book Killer Nurse

  • Author : Jack Smith
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2017-07-30
  • ISBN : 9781974094004
  • Pages : 90 pages

Download or read book Killer Nurse written by Jack Smith and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-07-30 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hospitals are supposed to a place of healing, but wherever Genene Ann Jones worked, a trail of suspicious deaths followed. What makes this killer nurse one of the most sickening serial killers is that she targeted defenseless, innocent babies and children. Hospitals are where people go when they are sick, when they need medical help, or when they want to check on their health to make sure everything is going well. Nurses, doctors, and other medical staff are protectors that can help others get better, at least that is how it is supposed to be. When children are taken to the hospital, parents are confident that they are putting the lives of their children in the best possible hands for them to get well. What they do not expect is for one of the very people who are supposed to help their child, to hurt them intentionally instead, or even worse, kill them. Death is sometimes a possibility with certain conditions and illnesses, but it isn't usually expected - and even less so when a child dies in a way completely unrelated to the reason they are in the hospital in the first place. When there is confirmation that an intentional overdose of a specific medication was responsible, confusion and fear are quickly replaced by horror and anger. Genene Anne Jones (also known as Genene Anne Jones Turk), although officially convicted of only one murder and one charge of purposeful injury and harm to a child, is believed to have killed or injured somewhere between 45 and 60 children and infants. Jones had a habit of putting children in deathly peril so that she could be a hero and save their lives. Unfortunately, she killed many more than she saved. It is often hard to understand why anyone would want to kill another person, much less someone who has taken the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm and works in a field with the sole purpose of helping and saving people. When the victims are children, the crimes become more appalling. When the killer is a mother, confusion grows even more. What makes a nurse who is a mother herself kill young, helpless children? • Pages : 434 pages

Download or read book Sons of Cain written by Peter Vronsky and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of Serial Killers: The Method and Madness of Monsters comes an in-depth examination of sexual serial killers throughout human history, how they evolved, and why we are drawn to their horrifying crimes. Before the term was coined in 1981, there were no "serial killers." There were only "monsters"--killers society first understood as werewolves, vampires, ghouls and witches or, later, Hitchcockian psychos. In Sons of Cain--a book that fills the gap between dry academic studies and sensationalized true crime--investigative historian Peter Vronsky examines our understanding of serial killing from its prehistoric anthropological evolutionary dimensions in the pre-civilization era (c. 15,000 BC) to today. Delving further back into human history and deeper into the human psyche than Serial Killers--Vronsky's 2004 book, which has been called the definitive history of serial murder--he focuses strictly on sexual serial killers: thrill killers who engage in murder, rape, torture, cannibalism and necrophilia, as opposed to for-profit serial killers, including hit men, or "political" serial killers, like terrorists or genocidal murderers. These sexual serial killers differ from all other serial killers in their motives and their foundations. They are uniquely human and--as popular culture has demonstrated--uniquely fascinating.

Book excerpt: "I was a greedy, ravenous individual, determined to rise from the bottom to the top . . . It wasn't me!"--Jack Unterweger's final words to his jury Serial killers rarely travel internationally. So in the early 1990s, when detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department began to find bodies of women strangled with their own bras, it didn't occur to them at first to make a connection with the bodies being uncovered in the woods outside of Vienna, Austria. The LAPD waited for the killer to strike again. Meanwhile, in Austria, the police followed what few clues they had. The case intrigued many reporters, but few as keenly as Jack Unterweger, a local celebrity. He cut a striking figure, this little man in expensive white suits. His expertise on Vienna's criminal underworld was hard-earned. He had been sentenced to life in jail as a young man. But while incarcerated, he began to write—and his work earned him the glowing attention of the literary elite. The intelligentsia lobbied for his release and by 1990, Jack was free again. He continued writing, nurturing his career as a journalist. But though he now traveled in the highest circles, he had a secret life. He was killing again, and in the greatest of ironies, reporting on the very crimes he had committed. With unprecedented access to Jack's diaries and letters, John Leake peels back the layers of deception to reveal the life and crimes of Jack Unterweger, and in unnerving detail, exposes the thrilling twists—both in the United States and Europe—that led to Jack's capture and Austria's "trial of the century."
