Book Theory and Application of Acoustic Sources Using Complex Analysis

Download or read book Theory and Application of Acoustic Sources Using Complex Analysis written by Martin Ochmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-01 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the mathematical and physical properties of acoustical sources with singularities located in the complex plane and presents the application of such special elements to solve acoustical radiation and scattering problems. Sources whose origin lies in the complex plane are also solutions of the wave equation but possess different radiating properties as their counterparts with real positions. Such mathematical constructions are known in the fields of optics and electrodynamics, but they are not common in acoustical research. The objective of the book is to introduce this concept to acousticians and motivate them to engage themselves in further research and application of complex sources. Such sources are particularly useful to formulate Green’s functions and related equivalent source and boundary element methods in half-spaces.

Book Smart Wireless Acoustic Sensor Network Design for Noise Monitoring in Smart Cities

Download or read book Smart Wireless Acoustic Sensor Network Design for Noise Monitoring in Smart Cities written by Rosa Ma Alsina-Pagès and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Environmental Noise Directive (END) requires that a five-year updating of noise maps is carried out to check and report on the changes that have occurred during the reference period. The updating process is usually achieved using a standardized approach consisting of collecting and processing information through acoustic models to produce the updated noise maps. This procedure is time consuming and costly, and has a significant impact on the financial statement of the authorities responsible for providing the maps. Furthermore, the END requires that easy-to-read noise maps are made available to the public to provide information on noise levels and the subsequent actions to be undertaken by local and central authorities to reduce noise impacts. In order to update the noise maps more easily and in a more effective way, it is convenient to design an integrated system incorporating real-time noise measurement and signal processing to identify and analyze the noise sources present in the mapping area (e.g., road traffic noise, leisure noise, etc.) as well as to automatically generate and present the corresponding noise maps. This wireless acoustic sensor network design requires transversal knowledge, from accurate hardware design for acoustic sensors to network structure design and management of the information with signal processing to identify the origin of the measured noise and graphical user interface application design to present the results to end users. This book is collection in which several views of methodology and technologies required for the development of an efficient wireless acoustic sensor network from the first stages of its design to the tests conducted during deployment, its final performance, and possible subsequent implications for authorities in terms of the definition of policies. Contributions include several LIFE and H2020 projects aimed at the design and implementation of intelligent acoustic sensor networks with a focus on the publication of good practices for the design and deployment of intelligent networks in other locations.

Book Using Cereal Science and Technology for the Benefit of Consumers

Download or read book Using Cereal Science and Technology for the Benefit of Consumers written by S P Cauvain and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-01-10 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Proceedings of the 12th International Cereal and Bread Congress provide a wide-ranging, comprehensive and up-to-date review of the latest advances in cereal science and technology with contributions from leading cereals institutes and individuals from around the world. They bring together all elements of the ‘grain chain’ from breeding of new wheat varieties through the milling processes and on to the conversion of flour into baked products ready for the consumer at large. Evaluating and predicting wheat flour properties require new equipment and new techniques and these are covered in depth. Cereals other than wheat are given due consideration. The versatility of wheat flour and its conversion into food is reviewed across a whole spectrum of products. There is a strong emphasis on the use of wheat flour for bread making but with consideration of applications in the manufacture of cakes, cookies, pastries, extruded foods, pasta and noodles. The development process and the benefits to consumers are also addressed. The Editors and the Organising Committee have assembled a collection of high-quality papers which provide a showpiece for the latest developments in cereal science and technology. Extensive collection of proceedings from the 12th International Cereal and Bread Congress High-quality papers highlighting the most recent developments in cereal science and technology Benefits for the industry and consumers are discussed
