Book 111 Places in Verona and Lake Garda that You Must Not Miss

Download or read book 111 Places in Verona and Lake Garda that You Must Not Miss written by Petra Sophia Zimmermann and published by Emons Publishers. This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As you catch your first glimpse of the crystal-clear waters of Lake Garda with its endlessly long banks, you instantly begin envisioning sunset strolls through picturesque fishing villages and abandoning yourself to dolce far niente - the ineffable sweetness of doing nothing. Quite close by, Verona beckons you too - the city of the most famous and tragic lovers in the world, Romeo and Juliet, and of the ancient Roman arena with its annual opera festival. These are the sights and stories that leap to mind when one thinks of this region. But did you also know that the world's second-shortest river flows here? Or that the village of Limone did not get its name from its groves of lemon trees? Have you heard the true story of Juliet's famous balcony? Or the circumstances surrounding the 13th-century "Casa di Romeo" - the house in which the handsome young suitor could very well have lived? This guide will lead you to 111 special places rarely mentioned in conventional travel books, but which lend this history-laden idyll its sensual magic.

Rather, it is an indispensable and hugely useful resource for any family traveling to beautiful Italy. Here you will find: Detailed family-friendly itineraries, covering the best sights and attractions * The top 10 activities for families in all the important cities * Lists of the best events and attractions, such as: water parks, adventure parks, family-friendly beaches, horseback rides, jousting matches and medieval carnivals * Unique detective missions and kids' corners, filled with interesting facts and stories * Fascinating details about Italian art, culture, and history * Insider tips and top advice, written by a local, that will save you time and money on your Italian vacation * Recommendations for excellent family hotels, B&Bs and restaurants * The best kid-friendly museums and sights. *** Here's what a few of our readers had to say: "Highly recommend this guide. Very easy to read and follow giving excellent information and details." S. K"I was so excited to see this book published just before our trip to Italy with our kids, ages 10 and 13. One of our stops in Italy was spending three days in the Dolomites and I was having a very hard time planning this part of the trip due to the fact it is left out of most guidebooks of Italy (I don't know why more Americans don't go here - it was our favorite stop!) This book was perfect for this. We also used the book in Venice and did a quick stop for lunch at a town on Lake Garda, also using recommendations of this book. I loved the format of this book, using suggested itineraries in each location which helped group different sites/activities together. It also gave a lot of opinions on what things are worth seeing and doing for kids of different ages when you have limited time. Once we arrived in Venice and realized how good the book was, we ended up relying on this book as our primary source for organizing our time in both Venice and the Dolomites. We also used many of the restaurants recommendations." R.H "Good book for families, good ideas for family fun which you don't find in lonely planet etc." A.C

Book The Story of Milan

Download or read book The Story of Milan written by Ella Noyes Noyes and published by anboco. This book was released on 2017-06-26 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everybody has been in Milan, but who knows Milan? The traveller in search of the picturesque and mediæval sees nothing to arrest him—except comfortable hotels—in a city which seems to tell only of yesterday. A glance at the Cathedral, at St. Ambrogio, at the most famous of the pictures, and he hurries on. Yet a little longer stay reveals a wealth of artistic interest in the many fine churches, in the rich galleries and museums, and much also that is worth learning even in the outward aspect of the city in the present day. The historic buildings have mostly fallen, the old crooked ways have given place to broad thoroughfares, the picturesque life of the past has been smothered by the sombre bustle of modern commercialism. But her heritage of beauty is to some extent inalienable. She remains always Italian. Colour and atmosphere lend an indestructible charm even to her modernity. The warm brick of the buildings against the limpid blue sky, the gold and grey of sunshine and shadow, the shining canals that border some of the further streets with a still and pensive melancholy, make a lovely and characteristic harmony still, as in the days of the Quattrocentist artists who painted them in the backgrounds of their Madonnas and San Roccos. And there are some old xivstreets left, mostly in the heart of the city, such as the Via del Pesce and the Via Tre Alberghi, long cobbled alleys ribboned with triple lines of pavement, where the tall houses and bowed-out balconies of curious ironwork, rusted by age and weather, if they cannot remember the days of Milan's earlier glory, must have known at least something of the sad centuries of bondage which followed, before they shook to the roar of the Cinque Giornate sixty years ago. The compass of this small volume has made it impossible to tell otherwise than summarily of the great past of this city and of her artistic riches to-day. I have had to pass over, or barely mention, many noteworthy things.

Book excerpt: A travel story is the best story of them all... Travel journalist Kate Wills wasn't expecting to be divorced after less than a year of marriage, or to be forced to restart a life that had seemed so stable for so long. Luckily, her job as a writer offered her the perfect opportunity to escape from it all. But this time, with no deadlines to hit or all-expenses-paid trips to absorb in a few days before churning out copy for a travel magazine, her jet-setting felt different. There were no photographers working alongside her or assistants booking her flights. For the first time ever, Kate was traveling alone. Feeling unexpectedly out of her element, Kate began to scour history for stories of female travelers to inspire her. From a 4th-century nun to a globe-circling cyclist, Kate discovered that there have always been astonishing women who have broken free from society's expectations, clearing the path for many of us to do the same. Funny, heartfelt, and guaranteed to spark wanderlust, A Trip of One's Own is the perfect armchair travel read to inspire you to jump in the car or hop on a plane to explore the world. This book is the must-have next read for any aspiring solo female traveler!
