Book I Am He

Download or read book I Am He written by Catrin H. Williams and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2000 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Testament scholars often claim that the interpretative key to Jesus' pronouncement of the words ego eimi in the Gospel of John lies in the use of this phrase in the Septuagint of Isaiah to render the Hebrew expression 'ani hu' . While previous studies have paid particular attention to the New Testament usage of ego eimi, Catrin H. Williams sets this evidence within a broader framework by offering a detailed analysis of the interpretation of 'ani hu' in biblical and Jewish traditions. She examines the role of 'ani hu' as a succinct expression of God's claim to exclusiveness in the Song of Moses and the poetry of Deutero-Isaiah, and attempts to reconstruct its later interpretative history from the substantial body of evidence preserved in the Aramaic Targumim and several midrashic traditions. Biblical 'ani hu' declarations are cited by rabbinic authorities as proof-texts against a variety of heretical claims, particularly the 'two powers' heresy, but new 'ani hu' formulations, not necessarily confined to divine speeches, are also attested. In the concluding chapters Catrin H. Williams considers the role of 'ani hu' when seeking to interpret Jesus' utterance of the words ego eimi in Synoptic and Johannine traditions.

Book Jesus is the Christ The Messianic Testimony of the Gospels

Download or read book Jesus is the Christ The Messianic Testimony of the Gospels written by Michael F Bird and published by Authentic Media Inc. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explains the importance of the title and role of Messiah in each of the Gospels and argues that Christianity was a messianic movement rooted in its Jewish context. Michael Bird engages the subject of the messianism of the four Gospels. While the title and role of 'Messiah' ascribed to Jesus in the Gospels has long been regarded as a late add on, a fabricated claim, or an insignificant feature, Bird argues in contrast that the messianic claims are the most significant for the portrayal of Jesus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Balanced, comprehensive survey of the critical questions involved in studying the four Gospels In this book, through a distinctive evangelical and critical approach, Michael Bird explores the historical development of the four canonical Gospels. He shows how the memories and faith of the earliest believers formed the Gospel accounts of Jesus that got written and, in turn, how these accounts further shaped the early church. Bird's study clarifies the often confusing debates over the origins of the canonical Gospels. Bird navigates recent concerns and research as he builds an informed case for how the early Christ followers wrote and spread the story of Jesus -- the story by which they believed they were called to live. The Gospel of the Lord is ideal for students or anyone who wants to know the story behind the four Gospels. Watch an interview with Michael Bird from our Eerdmans Author Interview Series:

Book The Post Mortem Vindication of Jesus in the Sayings Gospel Q

Download or read book The Post Mortem Vindication of Jesus in the Sayings Gospel Q written by Daniel A. Smith and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2007-01-06 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Q 13:34-35, the Jerusalem Logion, aligns the rejection of the speaker by Jerusalem both with the abandonment of Jerusalem's house and with the future invisibility and return of the speaker: 'You will not see me until you say, Blessed is the Coming One in the name of the Lord' (13:35b). The coincidence of not seeing language with a reference to a future coming is reminiscent of the connection, in Jewish literature especially, between the assumption and eschatological function. The book proposes that this reference to Jesus' assumption is a clue to how Q conceives of the post-mortem vindication of Jesus, since numerous Q sayings presuppose a knowledge of Jesus' death. In support of this, the book argues that in Hellenistic Jewish writings assumption was not always considered to be an escape from death (as in the biblical instances of Enoch and Elijah), but could happen at or after death, as was more clearly the case in Greek thought. Such a strategy of vindication is necessary for Q because it evidences a belief in Jesus' ongoing existence and future return as the Son of Man, and because resurrection though a feature of Q's eschatology is not individually applied to Jesus. A similar view is presupposed by the pre-Markan empty tomb tradition, which describes the disappearance of Jesus' body but narrates neither the resurrection itself nor an appearance of the risen Jesus. The book also draws out implications of the thesis for the place of the Sayings Gospel Q within the early Christian movements, particularly vis-vis the vindication of Jesus.

Book The Mission and Death of Jesus in Islam and Christianity

This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The common wisdom is that Christians and Muslims should dialogue only about what they agree on. This book takes a different approach. As the author observes, “If we focus only on our common ground, we will miss some of the motivating force of our traditions, because that force derives not only from what we hold in common, but also from those convictions that keep us apart.”

Download or read book Jesus Is the Christ written by Michael F. Bird and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2014-07-18 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who do the Gospels say Jesus is? The title and role of "Messiah" ascribed to Jesus in the Gospels has long been regarded as a late add on, a fabricated claim or an insignificant feature. Michael Bird, however, argues that the Gospels' messianic claims are the most significant feature of their portrayal of Jesus. Bird describes how each Evangelist portrays Jesus as the Messiah of Israel, what they think is at stake in that claim, and how the claim that "Jesus is the Messiah" drives the purpose and shape of the Gospels. Emphasizing that Christianity was a messianic movement rooted in its Jewish context, Bird points toward the profound theological implication of Jesus' identity: that Jesus' messiahship is the "mother of all Christology."

Book Affirmations For Christ Consciousness Part III From The Way of Mastery by Jeshua Ben Joseph Jesus Channeled by Jayem

Download or read book Affirmations For Christ Consciousness Part III From The Way of Mastery by Jeshua Ben Joseph Jesus Channeled by Jayem written by Michael Dybicz and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Part III in the Affirmations for Christ Consciousness series, from Jeshua's The Way of Mastery trilogy. Jeshua used a progression in communicating the path to awakening, or it is sometimes referred to as ascension, enlightenment, Oneness Consciousness, Christ Consciousness and/or God Consciousness. Thus, if you have not taken the first parts of Jeshua's course via The Way of the Heart and The Way of Transformation...and the parallel Part I and II of this Affirmations for Christ Consciousness series, it is suggested that you begin your studies with those four books. Part III in this series is intended to be a study aid for Jeshua's The Way of Knowing, his concluding book in his The Way of Mastery course. As crazy as this will sound to some, Jeshua ben Joseph (the authentic name for Jesus) began communicating a contemporary version of his teachings through numerous channels and mediums in the twentieth century. This game changing process is ongoing. No longer do we have to rely on inaccurate ancient documents, most notably the Gospels of the New Testament, in attempts to garner the vast wisdom of Jeshua. It is now available directly from him!Just as he did 2,000 years ago, he promotes a message of spirituality and Love versus fear-based dogma. This inspirational and extensive body of information conveys a 21st century version of his teachings, void of the Christian misinformation that has distorted his message for 2,000 years. It is noteworthy (and also evident in ancient texts) that his teachings mirror 21st century quantum-based, single field principles. Physicists often refer to this as the Unified Field Theory. The scientific underpinnings of Jeshua's message about God, who we are and why we are here are mind boggling, and yet he answers all the big questions humanity has been asking for the millennia. Three of his many channeled books are referred to as The Way of Mastery course; The Way of the Heart, The Way of Transformation and The Way of Knowing. These books were channeled through Jayem in the 1990s. Jeshua's stated purpose was to provide a pathway that can carry any soul from its first stirrings to awaken, all the way to a mature manifestation of the Christ energy (also referred to as Christ Consciousness). A man once said: The quickest way to accomplish a goal (Christ Consciousness) is to find someone who has already done so, and then use them as a model. I try to follow this advice whenever possible. Thus, when I discovered this series of books, I jumped at the chance to benefit from Jeshua's wisdom. For lack of a better description, The Way of Mastery series is Jeshua's contemporary correspondence course. As only Jeshua can do, he communicates a step by step approach to understand and then transcend the challenges of the third dimension of Earth...a true master piece. Jeshua's course instructions are in front of each book, which include taking notes on what each soul perceives as Jeshua's most important teachings. This element of his instructions were expanded, and with considerable assistance, his texts were converted into a first person, positive affirmation format. The goal was to create a study aid, a bridge if you will, to assist anyone in both owning and living the wisdom of Jeshua. In other words, to own and live the path to Christ Consciousness, versus just reading about it. This personalization of Jeshua's path to enlightenment will assist you to make the shift to God Consciousness...the remembrance of your natrual and intimate relationship with God.You will be amazed at the positive effects of a few deep relaxing breaths combined with just a page of Jeshua's affirmations. You will quickly discover that incorporating this practice into your daily routine will assist you in making the shift to your natural, enlightened state. All is Love, Michael & FriendsOctober 2019

Book Gentiles in the Gospel of Mark

Download or read book Gentiles in the Gospel of Mark written by Kelly Iverson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2007-01-10 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking study argues that, in the Gospel of Mark, Gentiles are recipients of Jesus' compassion and are typically depicted as desperate individuals who exhibit faith and understanding. Mark's arrangement of the sequence of Gentile episodes is progressive and envisions a theological reversal in the kingdom of God, a re-prioritization in the proclamation of the gospel message that coincides with the death of Jesus. After receiving Gentiles in the Jewish homeland (3:7-12), the Markan Jesus initiates four excursions into Gentile territory. The first journey (5:1-20) is preparatory and opens the door for future ministry in Gentile regions. Jesus symbolically cleanses the land and the healed demoniac becomes the first missionary to Gentiles. The second journey (6:45-52) ends prematurely when the disciples fail to understand the Gentile mission, leading inexorably to the third journey where the relationship between Jews, Gentiles, and the kingdom of God becomes the focal point of the narrative. Although the Jews are first, the Gentiles are not excluded from the kingdom. On the fourth journey the reader senses a subtle re-prioritization in the kingdom as an event on Gentile soil occurs before its parallel counterpart on Jewish soil, reversing an established narrative pattern in Jesus' ministry. Iverson shows how the theological reversal gains clarity when the narrative shifts to Jerusalem. The tearing of the temple curtain marks the dawn of a new era and links the temple and Gentile themes. Through Jesus' obedient self-gift, he becomes the new temple providing universal access to God for all people's depiction of the centurion is a narrative signal that the kingdom has been passed to Gentiles according to the divine plan. The Jews have not been excluded, any more than the Gentiles were when Israel was first. Mark's theological reversal looks proleptically beyond the story line to the completion of the Gentile mission by the followers of Jesus.
