Book Overcoming Students Misconceptions in Science

Download or read book Overcoming Students Misconceptions in Science written by Mageswary Karpudewan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the importance of identifying and addressing misconceptions for the successful teaching and learning of science across all levels of science education from elementary school to high school. It suggests teaching approaches based on research data to address students’ common misconceptions. Detailed descriptions of how these instructional approaches can be incorporated into teaching and learning science are also included. The science education literature extensively documents the findings of studies about students’ misconceptions or alternative conceptions about various science concepts. Furthermore, some of the studies involve systematic approaches to not only creating but also implementing instructional programs to reduce the incidence of these misconceptions among high school science students. These studies, however, are largely unavailable to classroom practitioners, partly because they are usually found in various science education journals that teachers have no time to refer to or are not readily available to them. In response, this book offers an essential and easily accessible guide.

Book Insect Juvenile Hormones

Download or read book Insect Juvenile Hormones written by Julius Menn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insect Juvenile Hormones: Chemistry and Action reviews the state of knowledge on juvenile hormones (JH) and analogs. The book emerged from the presentations and deliberations at the Symposium on the Chemistry and Action of Insect Juvenile Hormones, sponsored by the Division of Pesticide Chemistry of the American Chemical Society at the 162nd National Meeting of the Society in Washington, D. C., September 12-17, 1971. The book summarizes what is known about JH their analogs; their chemistry; their biological effects and mode of action; their biochemical fate in target and nontarget organisms; and their stability. Although divided into three general areas for convenience—biological, biochemical, and chemical—the text in its entirety is a multidisciplinary discourse, a foundation upon which the understanding of the action or inaction of JH and JH-active chemicals may be based, which hopefully will provide a springboard for future direction and research. This book will be of interest to chemists, biochemists, biologists, endocrinologists, entomologists, insect physiologists, and others concerned with insect development and control.

Book Biochemistry and Cell Biology of Ageing Part II Clinical Science

Download or read book Biochemistry and Cell Biology of Ageing Part II Clinical Science written by J. Robin Harris and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-19 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the subcellular Biochemistry series will attempt to bridge the gap between the subcellular events that are related to aging as they were described in the first volume of this set of two books and the reality of aging as this is seen in clinical practice. All chapters will start from the biochemistry or cell biology, where the data is available and work up towards the understanding that we have of aging in the various areas that are related to the subject. Key focus points for this volume are nutrition, external factors and genetics on aging. There will also be chapters that will focus on various organs or tissues in which aging has been well studied, like the eyes, the muscles, the immune system and the bones. The aim of the book project and the book project that is published in concert with this volume is to bring the subcellular and clinical areas into closer contact.

Book Angiogenesis

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael E. Maragoudakis
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-06-29
  • ISBN : 1475791887
  • Pages : 361 pages

Download or read book Angiogenesis written by Michael E. Maragoudakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angiogenesis is a multistep process, which involves activation, proliferation and directed migration of endothelial cells to form new capillaries from existing vessels. Under physiological conditions, in the adult organisms angiogenesis is extremely slow, yet it can be activated for a limited time only in situations such as ovulation or wound healing. In a number of disease states, however, there is a derangement of angiogenesis, which can contribute to the pathology of these conditions. Hence, understanding the molecular biology of endothelial cell activation and differentiation and the mechanisms involved in the regulation of angiogenesis, could explain the derangement in disease states and also provide the basis for developing promoters or suppressors of angiogenesis for clinical applications. This book contains the proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Angiogenesis: Molecular Biology, Oinical Aspects" held in Rhodes, Greece, from June 16-27, 1993. This meeting was a comprehensive review of the various aspects of angiogenesis such as embryonic development, endothelial cell heterogeneity and tissue specificity, molecular biology of endothelial cell, mechanisms for the regulation of angiogenesis, disease states in which angiogenesis is involved and potential application of promoters or suppressors of angiogenesis. The presentations and discussions of the meeting provided an opportunity for investigators from many different areas of basic science and medicine to exchange information, evaluate the present status and provide future research directions in the field of angiogenesis.
