Book Gold Coins of the World 10th edition

Download or read book Gold Coins of the World 10th edition written by Arthur & Ira Friedberg and published by Coin & Currency Institute. This book was released on 2023-12-20 with total page 854 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tenth edition of Gold Coins of the World expands on its predecessor, digging more deeply into new areas of collector interest, and expanding many sections. From the coins of Ancient Greece, Rome, and the Byzantine Empire, and from Afghanistan through Zanzibar, it includes the addition of many new discoveries for dozens of countries. From the 384 pages of the 1958 edition, the work has expanded to 852 pages, which have been completely revised and updated. The authors have listed more than 22,000 coin types, which are illustrated with more than 8,500 photos—now, for the first time, each one of them in color. Each country’s section includes tables of weight and fineness. The market valuations are extensively revised to reflect both the higher price of gold as well as the skyrocketing demand for numismatic rarities. Valuations are now provided, for the first time, in up to three states of preservation. Many of the prices, especially for great rarities and coins in higher grades, have at least doubled. In fact, as collectors recognize the scarcity of coins in the highest states of preservation, the premium for such coins relative to lower-graded ones is escalating beyond traditional proportions. The coinage of India and the Islamic world, long dismissed by western collectors as difficult to decipher, unimportant, and lacking in value, is now the subject of intense interest, and has shown some of the most dramatic increases of all. The reader will also find a useful directory of the world’s leading gold-coin dealers and auction houses. For the numismatist, banker, economist, historian, or institution of higher learning, the tenth edition of Gold Coins of the World is a book for every library, public and private.

Book United States Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold Coins

Download or read book United States Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold Coins written by Kevin Dailey and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-24 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: United States Modern Commemorative Five-Dollar Gold Coins By: Kevin Dailey First steps are often the hardest, but with first steps we begin our journeys of discovery and destiny. United States Modern Commemorative Five-Dollar Gold Coins is a first-step book. It is the first, and to date, only book detailing modern gold commemoratives. Unlike some other coin programs offered by the United States Mint, these coins will be collected by future numismatists because they maintain a tradition of collecting that began in the nineteenth century and endures to this day. Gold commemoratives are like compelling snap shots of this nation’s history. Each piece is unique with an enduring story to tell, enduring as the metal they are made of. They tell us stories of not only our past but who we are today. Filled with facts and figures, this book will help you decide which path you want to take when collecting these coins and establishing fair market prices so you are never left with the unpleasant sense of feeling like you overspent for a coin. Beyond the how best to buy is the “why” to buy. Yes, this book will make you a smarter buyer. but it will also make you a smarter numismatist and a more satisfied collector.

Book So Called Dollars

Download or read book So Called Dollars written by Harold E. Hibler and published by Coin & Currency Institute. This book was released on 2008-02-01 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When So-Called Dollars was published it was the first, and it is still the only book to deal comprehensively with its subject matter. The book begins with the legendary Erie Canal Completion issues of 1826 and proceeds to catalog 135 years of the Golden Age of American history, all the way up to 1961. Although there have been many propositions for reviving the book over the years, none were more than theoretical musings until two collectors, Tom Hoffman of Crystal Lake, IL and Jonathan Brecher of Cambridge, MA set the process in motion. They have been joined by two others, Dave Hayes and John Dean, to produce a remarkable new edition, of the sort that can only be the product of dedicated hobbyists who love their subject and see it as their obligation to share with others the knowledge gained from years of collecting. While the second edition holds true to the original in basic style and in substance, prices have skyrocketed and it offers much that is new. There are many more illustrations than in the first edition. In fact, virtually every type is now represented by a photograph. More historical information for the issues is presented in the text, which has been further expanded with additional listings of both previously unknown metal varieties and totally new items. The size of each item is now given in mm rather than in 16ths of an inch as in the 1963 edition. Each issue has been assigned a rarity rating of from R-1, indicating more than 5,000 known, to R-10, meaning unique. In addition, a loose-leaf price guide included in each book at no additional charge. The index has been expanded to include references to more subjects and places. Finally, there is a section of color plates. The Hibler & Kappen book remains the standard reference work on the subject with its HK numbers an instantly recognizable means of cataloging and identification.
