Book Building a Youth Ministry that Builds Disciples

Download or read book Building a Youth Ministry that Builds Disciples written by Duffy Robbins and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2012-01-24 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While most youth pastors are being regularly evaluated (or even scrutinized) for what they’re doing right now in the youth group, the reality is that the most important thing they are doing won’t actually be evident until much later. That’s because the biggest challenge for any youth ministry is helping teens embrace a whole-hearted devotion to God that lasts far beyond their years in the youth room. Unfortunately, much of youth ministry seems to be designed on the model of setting teenagers up for a “date” with God—a delightful evening that involves music, laughter, food, and light conversation. But what scripture calls us to is not a “one-night stand” with God, but a lifelong love of God that endures.Youth ministry educator and veteran, Duffy Robbins, offers youth workers a blueprint for building that kind of faith in teenagers. In this concise book, ideal for busy youth workers, they’ll be equipped to build a youth ministry that instills that lasting faith in its students.

Download or read book Together written by Jeff Baxter and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2011-01-04 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does youth ministry in your church exist on an island, disconnected from the larger church? Does your youth ministry accomplish the church's overall goals for making disciples of teenagers? Together helps answer those questions and more. Almost since the concept of "youth ministry" came into being, churches have struggled with how to keep their twelve-to-twenty-year-olds engaged. A contemporary focus, lots of fun activities, and cool leaders seemed to be the answer. Yet large numbers of young people are still leaving, many feeling disconnected from mainstream churches. In Together, author Jeff Baxter offers a thoughtful perspective on why real change requires not just a new model for youth ministry, but a whole new congregational mindset. Using practical examples from his own experiences ministering to youth and their families, Baxter provides a detailed guide for creating an intentional, whole-church, intergenerational ministry. Effective and life-changing, this ministry focuses on connecting the generations for the express purpose of fostering discipleship and spiritual growth, and investing youth in the long-term goals of the church. Together is for anyone committed to helping young people mature into Jesus-following adults who remain invested in God's kingdom.

Fun is still allowed, by all means, but the ultimate emphasis on maturing faith is simply essential. The anecdotal comparisons are current and on-target (Starbucks’ well-publicized decision to retrain baristas in coffee making introduces the idea that youth leaders might also be wise to revisit the gospel essence of their ministry). And case study data gleaned from small to mega churches and parachurch ministries will give every youth leader a relatable reference point from which to begin the successful metamorphosis to Simple.

Book Art of Forming Young Disciples The

Download or read book Art of Forming Young Disciples The written by Everett Fritz and published by Sophia Institute Press. This book was released on 2018-03-02 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not long ago, veteran Youth Minister Everett Fritz counted the number of his former Youth Group members who were still practicing the Faith. The result? Almost all of themhad left the Faith! Fritz learned that otherparishes reported similar staggering losses, pointing to a grim truth: today’s Youth Ministries simply do not form young people into lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ. Not satisfied with these dismal results, Fritz devised a different way of forming young people in the Faith. It’s an approach that can truly transform the spiritual lives of young people by applying the same one-to-one personal method that Jesus Himself used to form his twelve original disciples . . . only one of whom was lost! Fritz has worked with countless parishes, helping them make the shift to a small-group discipleship structure. You’ll learn to avoid the many pitfalls and common mistakes parishes make, as well as ways you can easily build the volunteer base needed for a successful transition. He will help you create a comfortable environment that leads young people into self-reflection, as well as the critical role parents and the parish community play in youth formation. Finally, Fritz shares various resources that can help you accomplish your goal. But he warns: you’re not running a program that has been pre-developed. Relationships and mentoring make disciples; programs do not. If you’re troubled by the number of young people in your parish who leave the Faith year after year, then open these illuminating pages and learn the art of forming young disciples.

Book 101 Ways to Attract Retain and Train Teens and Youths in Your Church

Download or read book 101 Ways to Attract Retain and Train Teens and Youths in Your Church written by Albert O. Aina and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God called me with three mandates. One of them was to: "Give Youths a sense of purpose and achievement." As at the time of this writing, I have been involved in Teens and Youths ministry for thirty three (33) years. I started out in 1982 as Assistant Secretary/ Librarian, Student Christian Movement (SCM) University of Nigeria, Enugu campus. I set up fellowship library during my tenure. I served as State General Secretary Nigerian Christian Coppers Fellowship (NCCF) Niger State. I preached my first open air crusade as a Youth Corper in 1984. I was appointed as a Youth Pastor in First Baptist Church after my service year. When I later joined Foursquare Gospel Church, Shomolu in 1986, I served variously as Membership Chairman, Organizing Secretary, Vice President, and President, of the 2000 strong church. The assignment that got me into the main stream of teens and youth work was when I was appointed President, Agape Conference International. This conference has played host to thousands of Teens and Youths annually since 1984, attracting participants from about 400 churches representing 203 denominations from 33 states of Nigeria. It has been my privilege to preside over this conference since 1987 till date. I have been pastoring youth oriented churches for over two decades and currently serving as District Overseer. Teens and Youth ministry has remained my major focus. 80% of our present 1,000 strong congregations are under 30 years old. I wrote this book to document my over thirty years practical experience in teens and youths ministry. It is my conviction that it is much easier and cheaper to prepare young people than to repair old adults. The dropout rate of youths and teens from churches is alarming. Old generation churches are lamenting the "loss" of youth population to "new" generation chapels. The real actual loss is the loss of our teens to drug abuse, nominalism, premarital sex and cultism. Most pulpits in the land don't have the answer, except platitudes and living in denial. Clergy are still living with old realities. Analog minds on the pulpit cannot provide answers to the questions of digital minds in the pews. We need to download the unchanging words of God to the contemporary world in a timely fashion. This is why I wrote this book. How do we Pastor the Facebook Generation? This book provides practical insights, based on proven experience. How do we make Teens to develop interest in our churches and Bible studies? How do we set up Teens Church? How can we have more youth friendly churches? How do we engage the youth culture? How do we invade the Teens world on what to wear, why sex must wait and many other burning issues? This is why I wrote this book of hundred chapters. This book can be used as training manual for Youth Leaders and Youth Ministers. I highlighted 56 out of 100 lessons I have learnt in thirty years of Teens and youth ministry. You can learn from either of both sources mistakes or mentors. This book, 101 Ways To Attract, Retain And Train Youths And Teens In Your Church, will prevent you from making the mistakes that are common with youth leaders. The book comes handy as a mentorship manual. Read it chapter by chapter in leadership group discussions.
