Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The artistic journey of a renowned graphic designer and artist. A pioneer of Japanese graphic design in the 1960s and 1970s, Tadanori Yokoo first became known through his posters and illustrations. A number of artists, including Issey Miyake and the writer Yukio Mishima, spotted his talent and requested his collaboration. In the early 1980s, painting became the art form through which Tadanori uncompromisingly began to explore various subjects rooted in personal and collective memories, such as life, death, society, sex, and religion. Impervious to criticism, bent on giving inspiration full rein, he never shrank from shocking his contemporaries as he varied stylistic and thematic approaches. Published to accompany a French exhibition, the book includes recent paintings as well as older work. 100 color illustrations.

Book excerpt: A global survey of Pop art that reassesses its roots, impact, and legacy This groundbreaking book surveys the concurrent engagements with the spirit of Pop throughout the world, from the frequently studied activity in the United States, England, and France to less well-known developments in Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. One of the first publications to examine Pop art with this global scope, The World Goes Pop explores the wide-ranging movements that developed on different continents, such as Nouveau Réalisme, Neo Dada, New Figuration, and Spiritual Pop. This unique presentation offers the opportunity to compare how Pop art around the world differed due to geography, local traditions, and different cultures' social and political underpinnings. Fascinating essays touch upon key themes that factored into various Pop movements, including feminism, political representation, sexual politics, and seriality. A bold design and 200 striking illustrations showcase pieces by more than 60 artists, many of whose works have never been exhibited outside their home nations. The book also features a combined interview with a number of the living artists featured within, giving important insight into the thoughts and processes of Pop's international practitioners.

Download or read book The Poster written by Jurgen Doring and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This stunningly illustrated book examines the history of poster design and its relation to the arts and broader culture. The poster is a versatile marketing tool widely used from the 19th century to today for everything from political events to movies. A good poster has many layers, it goes beyond advertising and makes statements about style, history, fashion, and taste at the time. It is these layers that can turn a poster into a work of art. This book showcases 480 posters by more than 200 artists and designers and tells a comprehensive history of the poster. The book includes Art Nouveau, Bauhaus, Pop art, and contemporary posters from preeminent artists such as Alphonse Mucha, Egon Schiele, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol and from noted designers ranging from Lucian Bernhard and A.M. Cassandre to Saul Bass, Tadanori Yokoo, and Stefan Sagmeister. The book also introduces many other leading poster designers whose names are less well-known. Contemporary advertisements for Calvin Klein, United Colors of Benetton, and Coachella are also explored. By tracing the history of the poster, this book shows social developments throughout the world and illuminates how art styles have changed over time.
